Revelations 2 is one of my favorite RE games, due to its couch co-op game play. It’s the first game I played with my gf (now wife) and we had a blast. It’s possibly one of the best games to play with someone who has very little game experience since it is very forgiving for the second player. It also forces you to work together for max efficiency. We found out that if the second player goes down it doesn’t cause game over so she started going nuts with the crowbar and running into fight almost anything, which lead to some hilarious moments.

My favourite throwback line of the game is when Claire picks up the first gun and Moira asks her if she´s really gonna use it, and Claire responds with: "It´s more reliable than any person". That´s what Steve told her once during the events of RE: Code Veronica. In that game Claire is taken aback after hearing him say that, but I guess that after years in a world that suffers bioterrorism attacks every other Wednesday she´s taken that line to heart.

Also, I liked that choices made in Claire's scenario had an impact on Barry's scenario. I really hope to see more of this in the future. And let's not forget Moira's and Natalia's mini-games. Which is essentially an AR-15 not only chambered in Soviet 7.62x39 but it also uses straight up AK-47 magazines. This shows the devs really took care to say "hey if a were a firearms enthusiast and a former tactical cool guy what guns would I bring to a form Soviet controlled island.

I definitely agree that it didn't go far enough. I would have like them to really embrace the splitting story outcomes like RE1 had. They *kind* of do that with Moira's outcome, it was definitely nice to get an influence over whether or not she survives, but it would have been cool if there was a lot more interaction there. Or, for example, more interaction between the two stories like RE2 did, where you could leave items or things in the past then pick them up as Barry.

There is some of that already in the game. To get one of the gold mod kits in Episode 1, you have to avoid destroying one of the Iron maidens at the end of Claire's section, and pick it up during Barry's. There's something similar with changing the dam's door during the final episode.

The technical deficiencies you are talking about is due to the fact that the games roots are for PS Vita. Same as revelations 1 was for 3DS before it. So MT framework it was for both of them but a much lesser version than what RE5 was able to produce as it was the full deal.

The original Revelations game was actually pretty good. I didn’t play the older games until much later my Favorite was resident evil 2. and I felt that the series was in serious decline there were a lot of hardcore fans in the Community Joking that Capcom managed to actually kill the Franchise. Revelations in my opinion was the game that Revived the Franchise long before Resident evil 7 was even conceived. and while that game had its flaws any serious game reviewer worth their salt will never call a game a 10 out of 10. But a so called perfect game which doesn’t exist needs a 9.5. Meaning its flaws need to be so minor that they can easily be forgiven because of all the good things the game manages to accomplish. Resident evil revelations in my opinion is the best modern Resident Evil game and the one that does the best at having a balance between survival and horror. Although unlike 1 or 2 you won’t ever find yourself in a situation where you say I’ve got 35 handgun bullets and 3 shotgun I’m loaded. Which in those games was a lot of ammo the only time you were low on ammo was during the flashback segments. Where you were playing as Parker and were fighting against the Hunters. but by the time you finish revelations you’ll have plenty of Ammo however I felt Revelations 2 failed to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. Somehow in typical Capcom fashion they go from a 9 out of 10 game to a 6.5 the game just has too many flaws and feels incredibly unbalanced. The worst part was when you get a new shotgun and think finally an upgrade only to Realize that despite being able to hold more than two or three shells depending on gun upgrades. The damage is much lower it wouldn’t be a big deal if it was a little but lower but they nerfed the second shotgun way to much. it doesn’t have as many upgrade slots which for a revelations game the gun needs a minimum of two upgrade slots preferably 3 and decent stats to be any good. I mean the handgun government in the Original had a really slow fire rate and couldn’t be upgraded in Parker’s segment. But to balance that out it was one of the highest damage per shot guns in the game similar to the red 9 from RE4. not to mention the woke elements they also make it feel like Moira and Claire the two women are in a gay relationship. With the weird comments and how they talk to each other. and while I don’t care who people decide to have a relationship with obviously as long as it’s not an adult and a Child. I don’t want that kind of stuff in a Video game and consider at best trying to please people who can never be pleased. Because soon they will be saying it’s not good enough Claire is gay she needs to be a Trans man add more degeneracy and at worst it’s just Communist propaganda. added only to score points with the far left. Though in spite of the weird way Claire and Moira work together and how they speak. The game somehow managed to screw up the upgrade system and many people writing guides for the game wrongly claim that once a weapon upgrade is collected it can be collected again by replaying the Level wrong. once you pick up an item upgrade you can no longer get a duplicate version of that upgrade. this cripples guns and gunplay and severely limits weapon customization. Meaning you’re going to be using the same couple of guns that benefit the most from your limited gun upgrade parts. and completely ignoring other weapons because they don’t have enough upgrade slots or are simply inferior in terms of damage ie the pump shotgun compared to the double barreled shotgun. because ammo is much more limited in Revelations and enemies don’t drop ammo if a gun doesn’t have a high enough damage per shot value it’s basically useless. now if someone made a mod that caused weapon parts to respawn on subsequent play throughs. The game would go from a 6.5 to a 7 just from that. however again that doesn’t fix the other issues guns that are so bad that no one who knows how the game works bothers to use them. the way the map is designed and the stealth mechanics are pretty ridiculous. The weird ouroboros monsters from Barry’s campaign can eat bullets for breakfast. But throw a smokescreen bottle at them even when alerted and you can still insta kill them with a stealth kill. in short for those who read as you can tell I loved the original Revelations game but am frustrated. How Capcom can make a truly incredible game then somehow manage to make the Sequel Worse. when in most cases the second or third game ends up being better than the original because the developer improves on what made the game good and attempt to address the flaws the original game had. and as I mentioned there’s no such thing as a perfect game but there are many games I enjoy playing because the flaws are so minor they can easily be ignored.

My son and I are playing this on my ps5 and having a great time. We tried it on the Nintendo switch and loved it until we made it outside with Claire and Moira. All of a sudden, the game kept struggling with pop in that made it unplayable. I highly recommend it, just not on switch.

Revelations 1 is up there with my favourites of the series. Curious to see what the drinker thinks about that entry.
