Excellent review. Your in depth knowledge on so many factors of lens use and design was a breath of fresh air.

Interesting Video I owned the 300 f2.8 vrii and the Sigma 120-300 f2.8. I also used the TC 1.4 and 2.0 on both. The key with these lenses and TC's is to ensure focus calibration with the Camera you are working with. After calibration on the 300 f2.8 with the Nikon TC2.0iii I had incredible results. In my view the 300 f2.8 vrii is the pick of the lot. I used it on Z mount Camera's and it performed even better.

Calibration is very important indeed. I just ordered a sigma 2xTc I am curious how it couples with the lens. I have a question about the 300 2.8 VR ii on a Z9 Do you notice sometimes the lens hunting not able to acquire focus?

Thanks for the review, was in market for this particular sigma lens for my use (plane/motorsport photography) Hmm the weight could be the problem ESPECIALLY when you use Air Travel since checking risking being chuck around by airport baggage. Was already having challenges with me carrying 2 canon body (6d & 7d) plus few prime lens (135mm F2, 200mm F2.8 & 400mm F4.0). I can't imagine how things would be much worse if were to carry this sigma and 70-200mm F2.8 lens or another 500mm Prime lens)

It's a heavy lens. They did not save on the construction of the lens' body. It is a shame that they build it too well 😉. I was also thinking of using it on a trip in the rainforest but I changed my mind. I will bring the 70-200 2.8 and the 300 Nikon prime instead.

@@hajakelyphoto I Would love to go smaller with oly m43 but I tend to shoot at night/low light situation which I would jack up my ISO to 12,800 and above (modern denoise app was quite decent too) which made me stick with full frame DSLR. Plus seems like i can get good deal with used DSLR lens and body since many people are offloading it to mirrorless.

I also agree with you on sharpness. I look at sharpness of all the modern lenses and there is very little difference. To me the overall rendering of contrast, colour, suppression, Bokeh.

Hi Hajakely, thanks for your videos! it's great to see someone who talks about older DSLR lenses: they are becoming more and more attractive given the lower prices. Have you ever tried the Sigma 500mm F4?

Hi Christian, thanks for watching. I like F lenses because they are cheap but also they are great lenses. They are the lenses that pros used to create iconic photos (and lots of pros are still using them). I do not have and did not try the Sigma f4 yet. However, I heard lots of good things about it. I think cybertec69 @jfphotography69 has that lens and uses it intensively. Have a look at his channel.
