The Sim Floor is an unexpected great addition. I bought it initially to mount my Fanatec Podium DD power brick under it (which has active cooling), as I didn't want that sucking in dirt from shoes and so on. What I found out though was that it added both comfort, immersion and rigidity. Rigidity as the rig seemed to flex even less than it already did, especially in the side to side way. Because remember that the two uprights for your wheel are basically long levers that get pushed or pulled side to side (from the drivers view point) and thus they will apply torsion forces to the bottom main beams of the chassis. While initially this isn't noticible I was surprised when I put the Sim Floor in between the uprights, as this resulted in a lot more strength. I guess you could say this fixes the movement at 16:40 in this video. As for comfort I found that the seat felt now mounted to the floor of a car and the beams are as high up as my real car when getting out, so for some odd reason getting out of the rig became easier and more natural. As for the immersion it's as said... since the seat feels mounted to the floor you can naturally rest your foot on the floor if you haven't added the foot rest yet. Plus you expect there to be a floor oddly enough, especially since we don't live in the era of The Flintstones and don't have our (virtual) automobiles footpowered. And as said the rig becomes more rigid and thus the force feedback also benefits from that.

IMHO I will say aluminum profile looks a lot better in person if you are hesitant about looks. You do get used to the looks after you've had it in your home. The performance more than makes up for it.

Yeah after doing a long search for like probably two months About which is the best rig you can buy I would have to say hands-down the sim-lab P1X is the best product on the market and it couldn’t be easier to assemble. It has a easy and a very thought out design and very deliberate in the way it can be modular and how you want to set it up to any specifications which is really cool and yeah good job sim-lab . thanks for the video keep up the good work

Great review, thank you! I considered the P1-X but decided it is overkill for me... ended up going with Advanced Sim Racing as they have a slightly less beefy (but still beefy!) middle ground rig (ASR4). I see very similar quality difference between my ASR kit and Track Racer components... ASR uses very dense and heavy profile, and their fit and finish is in another league compared to Trak Racer. Would be interesting comparing ASR and Sim-Lab components, but for those in North America ASR is tough to beat value wise.

Just assembled my P1-X and really like it. I had to cut the seat profiles a little shorter for my Monstertech seat, but that wasn't too bad. Those bracket covers are a real PITA! It has to be one of the poorest designs I've ever seen. At this point, I'm thinking about gluing the damn things on. Just light enough to hold, but easy enough to get off when it's time to check and re-tighten the bolts.

great review.... would be interesting if the vibrations of the rig that are transferred to the G9 monitor affects its durability.. especially as curved ultrawides have quite some tension on the screen surface that cracks easily. But also the electrical internals... Fortunately, LEDs nowadays are very robust compared to other light sources in the past.

The advantage of the SimLab IMO is that you know it's going to be solid as granite. I've tried the TrakRacer and it's on the same level IMO. I've also tried another 8020 rig that was a bit disappointing. Point is that they are definitely not all created equal so careful thinking you are getting the same level of rigidity for a lot less $$ anywhere else.

I'd like to share that your users can get full chapter functionality and interaction supplied by KZbin if you make a 00:00 'insert something here' timestamp entry. I’m curious.. if you had three monitors instead of a single wide monitor would you get the triple monitor mount or the integrated monitor mount? That is my only issue that I can’t figure out before buying.
@TheSimChannel
@TheSimChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Tough one. So when I made the decision to go G9+integrated mount I did that for two reasons: (1) I wanted to downsize the rig's footprint in my living room, and (2) I wanted to be able to test motion systems. Integrated+triples might be a problem for motion systems as it's hard to stabilize the screens so that they won't wobble around or even tear off the vesa mount. As long as you don't want motion and your screens are in the 27-32" range, the integrated mount is probably the most compact solution and the way to bring in the screens closest to you for the best FOV possible. If you don't mind everything taking up even more space, and you are possibly thinking about >32" triples, the standalone stand seems like a good option though. And if you feel like doing me a favor, feel free to use my affiliate link in the description to buy. :-)

@@TheSimChannel I see your point, but unless you've a deep dish or NASCAR wheel the differences in distance are minimal. And if you've a NASCAR wheel it's supposed to be closer to your chest in any case. I've found a better solution is to get your seating and pedal positioning perfect and leave it at that and then use a spacer hub for the wheels to get the perfect distance. The only pedal movement I care about really is vertical for gt and f1 hybrid style

I got mine 2 months ago and the corner brackets are really fragile, I managed to crack 3 of them on both sides while hand tightening them, before I switched them to motedis' corner brackets. The powder coating on the pedal plates is way too thick which makes adjusting the sliding profile a pain in the ass, in the end I ended forcing it with my legs while scraping most of the powercoat on the inside off. Adjusting the wheel deck is also a pain in the ass because as soon as the bolts are a bit loose, the deck will want to slide down the uprights, I got around by placing some extra corner brackets I had below the side plates, now I can adjust the tilt without loosing the height. It also seems that the angle between the back and the floor of simlabs seats is wider than other bucket seats, for example, I can't have my omp ars-r in that position because after 20 minutes my butt bones will start to hurt
@TheSimChannel
@TheSimChannel 2 жыл бұрын
interesting. I just received their updated corner brackets (the ones you presumably got) and will put them on the rig when I find the time. Will check for fragility. As for the powder coating, I didn't have any issues and I'm not aware of any changes but can't say more about it than that.
@XavierGoncalves89
@XavierGoncalves89 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSimChannel Comparing the corner brackets side by side, simlabs brackets are 1mm thinner than motedis' corner brackets. Regarding the pedal assembly, it probably didn't help that I was adjusting the sliding profile while everything else was already bolted down, however if I now want to adjust it towards the seat, I need to jam a spanner between the profiles and push the sliding profile that way

I'm getting a full logitech setup with a handbrake and a wheel stand for $350 on facebook to start and the first thing I'm doing it upgrading to a high quality cockpit like this and will likely go for this. The reason I'm going what appears to be overkill is because I plan to get the cheaper Fanatec direct drive base and grow to a full Fanatec setup and I also intend to get into drifting and whatnot so having the rigidity for the handbrake and going through gears is kinda essential if you ask me. Good upgrade path or no?

I'm new to sim racing and looking to purchase my first sim rig - what are your thoughts between the P1-X and GT1-EVO?
@TheSimChannel
@TheSimChannel 2 жыл бұрын
If you wanna spend that kind of money on your first rig, either because you have enough or because you are convinced you're gonna keep it around as a hobby long enough to make it worth it... go with the P1-X. Except for size and weight it has no downsides compared to the GT1-Evo. However, if you're not gonna put a decent set of pedals (e.g., HE Sprint) or a strong wheel base on it, then one could argue you're paying for a kind of rigidity that you won't be able to make any use of. Or in other words, the GT1-Evo makes for a great mid-tier rig, absolutely enough for novices while the P1-X may be the best rig on the market.

@TheSimChannel
@TheSimChannel 2 жыл бұрын
it's a good monitor. triples give you a larger horizontal FOV, which is worth a lot, but you can't mount them to the rig itself and still have motion. it also takes up more space. If you don't care about motion, space in the room and the looks of it all, triples are the better solution just for racing. For me, the G9 is the best solution because I do care about those things ;-)

I don't think I've tried the F1 series on this screen yet. Unfotunately for a curved screen there is no easy way to calculate the FOV settings in an easy manner (because without curvature correction, there is no "right" FOV setting anymore) . I have some thoughts on how one could approach it, but it's a bit difficult to explain without showing. And I think the F1 series doesn't use degrees but arbitrary integers? In that case you can dial it in in AC with a modern F1 car (mod?), use something a little wider than the "correct" vertical FOV (cause with the curvature you should see a little more than the correct vertical FOV will show you), and then replicate that FOV in F1 2021... it's really time the devs around the world start considering curved screens. But codemasters doesn't even fully acknowledge the existance of keyboards and mice yet, so maybe F1 2031 will have a curvature correction for curved screens.

@@TheSimChannel Ok measurements of the actual profile. Uprights and then the main peices. I picked up the used Inverted p1x pedal deck. So would think I need that and then the 2 sandwich plates for the uprights. The rest I can use from gt evo "I think " lol and thanks for response

Hey Guys, I have recently updated my sim racing setup by getting my first 80/20 rig. I am now in the process of upgrading my tv/monitor. Right now I use a 55" sony TV as my racing monitor. Its definitely at 60hz and I can tell the limitations, particularly when iracing or online racing in f1. I am looking for a solid monitor to get. I prefer a single monitor setup. I play other games besides racing sims, so I want to try and keep my sim rig down to 1 monitor. With that being said, what monitor would you guys recommend. I was thinking of going with the Samsung CRG49, but if there are other you guys would recommend I would 100% check that out. Part of me feels like 49in ultrawide is too wide, so if anybody has any other size recommendations, definitely let me know. I will be mounting the monitor in a similar position as the one shown. Thanks in advance!

For a single monitor I'd say you have 2 options that stand out: (1) A 49" Ultrawide display such as the Samsung G9, (2) A very large TV, ideally at 120 Hz, if your GPU can handle it. I used a 60Hz TV until recently, and I agree it's totally workable. But 120 Hz does make a big difference, and since nowadays both TVs and Gaming monitors are available 120Hz and higher, don't settle for anything less! I personally really enjoy the Samsung G9, in racing games as well as Rocket League. I don't play any other games at the moment.

You have to consider what accessories are available, unless you plan to cut and build your own... Trak racer TR160 is far superior in that regard. Articulating keyboard tray, integrated monitor mounts, button box mounts, much nicer shifter mounts, etc. Sim labs have real crappy accessories. Very basic stuff with little adjustability. Shipping to the USA is a killer, costing double what Trak Racer charges.

As I have said multiple times in the review, 40-series profile rigs are cross-compatible. You can mix and match however you like between TrakRacer, Sim-Lab, GTOmega, and others.

Looks like you made it really solid. I don't think the washers do much for stability though, thats not where the flex usually comes from. And your rig will also flex given enough force, just like the P1-X. However, the kind of force you might need to make it flex might break your steering wheel, so I don't recommend trying. Good job! :)
@bratosin1

@@TheSimChannel i just grab the wheel deck with my hands and try to flex but it's like solid carbon one piece rig , trust me , maybe if you pull with very high force you will see some like 1,2mm flex , in extreme condition you are right all the rigs flex a little bit, I believe , maybe if you have a one piece solid steel rig has 0,00000% flex , but in normal life conditions the way I build the gt1 evo it's pretty much perfect, washers help just a tiny bit in overall strength of the rig , ant they only cost like 5 bucks ( maybe you get 70 for 5 bucks)
@TheSimChannel
@TheSimChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not saying the flex is really relevant under driving conditions. but you probably won't argue that the GT1 Evo is more rigid than the P1-X, right? And I show the P1-X flex (to a small degree) in this review 🙂 The wheel deck flexes when you use the levarage of the steering wheel for up-down-movement (you can't replicate that by grabbing the profiles directly), and by pushing yourself into the seat and the wheel away from you. But I don't recommend that with plastic wheels, as you might break them. I'm not arguing anyone needs a more rigid rig than the GT1 Evo. I'm just saying you can certainly make it flex if you try.
@bratosin1
@bratosin1 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSimChannel that is true , if you push enough eventually he will flex some mm but I cannot with my wheel ,I'm 100% shure he will break in half if I put enough force to flex this custom made gt1 evo, i believe my gt1 evo upgraded has less flex than standard p1x ,no way you can flex this like you showed in the video with the p1x , have you fasten all the bolts ?
