Review: Spyder X2 Ultra colour calibrator

I have the regular SpyderX. It's very much needed and also getting into the habit of soft proofing and using the correct profiles for your monitor and working space . You see many people wonder why their jpg or png looks desaturated on export. It's especially crucial if you use a pen display and also an external monitor. A lot of the newer pen displays have wide color gamuts compared to most monitors. Artists will pick colors that don't translate well in sRGB and wonder why (they are picking super vivid colors on their wide gamut pen display)

Nice review. Just ordered X2 Ultra myself, after thinking about proper calibration for years and always forgeting it. Weird how something so crucial is an afterthought or barely registers for most people. Especially funny since I use apps like Photoshop, Premiere to even Unreal editor (as a game dev). You'd think colour calibration would be the first thing I'd do but, nope.

I used to have a Spyder X. I bet very little has changed in the X2. They look identical. I ended up getting an Xrite i1Studio so I could calibrate my printers as well.

Yeah, no real reason to upgrade if your previous one still works fine. My Spyder5Pro could not work with OLED displays which is why I upgraded.

@@teohyc If you don't change your hardware or software, this can work. It should be noted that the lenses in the device also age. If new devices come with new specs or new software, e.g. 2000 nits brightness or something like that, certain devices will no longer work. Or the manufacturer will not develop the drivers any further.

Does the "target" option at 5:29 actually clamp the gamut if the name would suggest that (e.g. DCI-P3, AdobeRGB, BT.709) or is it just a quick gamma/wp preset ?

I've been using Spyder series colour calibrators for years and they work well for me. I've not tried Calibrite Display Plus HL so I can't say much about that. Do search online for more reviews

Can I ask you how many monitors or computers or laptops you can use this device to calibrate the display with one serial number if you need one to activate the software?

Countless. You can activate the software as many times as you need with your email.
