You should make a battery for your ebike out of those pouch cells. They look like a good size for that. Each cell is 25ah right? And the battery was easily doing 100a so you know each cell can easily put out 25a continuous. 16 in series will be almost exactly the same as a 48v lithium ion pack. If you haven't used lifepo4 on a bike yet I highly recommend it the discharge curve is so flat you get good power the whole time instead of that gradual descent downward. It's like being at 85-90% the whole way through a lithium ion pack. Just remember when it gets low it means it. You can safely discharge down to 2v no problem. It's definitely a whole other animal.

Exactly how do they propose disposing of the heat the BMS generates? The plastic case is NOT likely to be a good heat transfer medium.
@Andy-df5fj4 күн бұрын
I presume that's where the surge current time limit comes into play and I would hope there's not enough heat generated to be a problem at normal current levels.

I just bought one of these “mini” 100ah batteries from watt cycle for my VW camper van to run a 12v fridge I was cheap and bought a non Bluetooth version and now I regret it . I’ll have to find a way to keep track of capacity

A simple volt meter would do. Make sure your battery is at rest for a couple hours without being connected to anything before you measure it.

@@AvisGrant-mu1hc I’ve seen some options out their definitely made a mistake on not getting a Bluetooth battery. I’ll be doing a test with it running my iceco fridge and see how long it will power it on a full charge 😏 should be a good ball park for me.

@ found a number of. Displays with a shunt and they all seem to do what I need. Victron sells a smart shunt and uses an app and avoids a display if have to mount. Buying a battery with Bluetooth would have been a better choice 😂. But here I am at least I got a Black Friday deal
@mt-qc2qh5 күн бұрын
You sort of glossed over the need to signup before using the Bluetooth app. Is this a "cloud" registration? The Wattcycle using the BMS Meta app does not require any registration. I prefer no registration.

The need to register to use the app is part of the dependency on the cloud these days.
@notyoung5 күн бұрын
That's likely a security measure so no one else can take control of YOUR battery.
@ehsnils5 күн бұрын
@notyoung Doesn't make sense, and should never be necessary. Security measures aren't improved by the cloud, only degraded. All I see is a way to track you and be able to decide to disable your battery.

That faint LED burning 50% of the time isn't gonna drain the battery. Okay, it will add up. But it's like 5uA. That's neglectible compared to the total system current draw of like 500-1000uA.

Ty Mr Eco for going to all the effort of breaking down the battery so we dont have to👍. I just bought a batteryless car engine starter, its great, it just use what ever voltage is left in the car battery to charge up capacitors in the unit, little bit more expensive than normal lithium battery pack, unlike lithium starter pack the capacitor starter u don't have to remember to keep it charged.👍

@teardowndan53645 күн бұрын
The compression plates don't provide much heatsinking capacity beyond the last cell on either side, all inner cells' heat has to go through the stack or out from the edges. If you want to get heat out from the middle of the stack, you need heat-spreading plates like what Hyundai does at every other cell in its IoniQ battery modules.
@chimpo1315 күн бұрын
lol this isn't a car battery
@teardowndan53645 күн бұрын
@@chimpo131 The point was that the video says compression plates help with heatsinking when in fact they provide little to none. If batteries got warm enough that the compression plates would play a meaningful thermal management role, then you'd need something far more serious, hence the IoniQ reference.
