Must comment that in 1957 I made that dress with overbodice for the prom. Lt blue taffeta on the bottom and something darker blue on the bodice and many many button loops.

Moire (mor-ay) is a water-stained looking older fabric. As someone else said, it is hard to find. It's been used a lot in home dec. Organdie is similar to organza in that it is see-through but organdie is very stiff. It's used a lot to make fancy baby bonnets that have ruffles that stand up or for see through voluminous sleeves. Faille (file) is a heeavier fabric that has a slight texture to it.

I rather like hand stitching - I don't NEED any new garments, so I don't mind taking my time with them. I enjoy doing blind hems and hand overcasting seams. I was surprised to see they hold up in the washing machine and produce a softer, less stiff, seam compared to zig zag stitch or serger

How do vogue get it so right with some patterns and yet so wrong with others?
@missdemeanor35242 жыл бұрын
Interesting question. I do know there's one man who does all the non-designer patterns for Vogue, so perhaps that increases the probability of either liking everything or liking nothing. I don't know how many assistant designers there are - but I got the feeling that after Vogue Patterns were acquired, he was trying to appease the new owners. As in, the new owners were pretty restrained.

Moiré is watered silk. The process creates ripple/wave patterns in the silk. It’s very popular historically but I think pretty hard to get now!

That pannier made up in moire could be Old West brothel chic or sexy vampire chic depending on the color used.

In my opinion, this collection of Vogue is the best that I have seen. I am racking up a list to buy, buy, buy. Winter 2022 has proven to be a very interesting year in fashion design. More details are popping up. Good for Vogue this year. Thank you, Lindsey. ~ L

2:00 Strong agree on bust pocket and button placement. I'm all for it to be higher since I think it helps draw attention to the face when details are focused nearer to. It helps keep clothing looking less like it's "wearing you" according to my retired Vogue fashion designer grandma.

Me too; I'm a sucker for anything with a statement collar! This garment is like a dress, a smock, a robe and a jacket combined. The zipper down the front gives it a vintage vibe, and the collar is something else. Those square armholes are cool as hell! I could see making it up in an artistic IKEA cotton canvas fabric and wearing it over black leggings and a black turtleneck top when I feel fat or when I want to look coolly sophisticated without trying too hard.

My mother wore dresses like V1921 as at-home entertaining dresses. They were like an ‘evening house dress’ or something. Very comfortable and easy to wear when people were over for dessert and coffee on winter evenings and all our Christmas photos show her wearing these. 😊🤎

Oh I love these videos, you crack me up every time, I recently rewatched about a dozen or so trying to find a pattern for a pair of trousers I just knew I’d seen somewhere. I’d try to write how things are pronounced but it’d probably be quicker and easier for you to go and learn French 😂 It’s crappy here in the U.K because we tend to be a season (sometimes two) behind patterns being available here!

Love everything up to the Sandra Betzina "Jetson" look! LOL!! I think if I were to make it, I would go with a fabric that had a good amount of drape, and let that collar go!! The "nightgown"-I think they were inferring the term "evening gown"-they used to call evening gowns sometimes that same thing.....Beautiful pattern-the short and the long of it! :+) Claire's dress is lovely, but over the top for the construction! I would have to be in the "zone" for that one!! LOL! Really love the off shoulder bodysuit, but do not care to ever wear one again-wore those enough in the 70's!! LOL-I would just change it to a top if I were to make it... Love 1922! Marcy's jacket is cute, but I do think I have something similar... 1929 is really nice. :+) WOW-men's coat is nice!! :+) Overall Vogue has "done it again" for me!! :+) Thank you!

The body suit really is beautiful, but I'm SO done with strapless bras and thong underwear after the 90's. I think it's going to sell really well for a new generation of women who will look adorable and fetching while constantly feeling like they need to adjust their clothing. Here, I didn't care for how they styled it with close-fitting pants. I'll prob always prefer the look of a bodysuit worn with loose, faded, tattered jeans. I hear you about that nightgown dress! It looks like a million bucks going to bed OR going out. Because the neckline is modest, I wonder if this pattern would work made up in an ity knit for the office? That Claire Schaeffer dress is one of my favorites! I agree that it seems needlessly labor-intensive though. I think it would look better with an invisible back zipper instead of the one shown in the pic. I'm so glad the new company has found their footing with Vogue! It would please me to no end if they would go back to the old Vogue editorial-style photos on the patterns and do more festive makeup and fun accessories for the holidays. Hopefully, they'll come to realize that Vogue Magazine readers and Vogue Pattern sewists seek this brand out to experience escapism and fantasy from everyday life.

You don’t have to do the zipper by hand. You can do a “hand picked” zipper using your machines blind hem stitch.

This is the first collection from any company in a while where I felt like I'm the target audience. The coat, the blazer, the off-the-shoulder top, the 70s-ish dress, I'd make and wear all of those. I WISH I had somewhere to wear the gowns because I love those as well. As usual, I'd skip the bizarre Sandra Betzina pattern...and LOL I'll skip the sex slave top as well. I truly enjoy sewing zippers by hand but not for a such a boring dress as that Claire one. I, too, thought the nightgown was a dress at first and I'd absolutely wear it as one. But I also want to make one to swan around the house and act like my life is fancier than it is. It is the nightgown of my dreams. Gorgeous. So a few stinkers but in general, good job, Vogue. Edit: I was just over on the Vogue site and it occurred to me that Sandra Betzina thing looks like a garbage bag. LOL

Pannier-paneea Organdy and organza- same weave but one is silk and one is cotton. Over bodice is the add-on to change the look of the plainer dress. One could make different over bodices for different occasions. Moire- mwoira, faille-fi. Ending letters a and e are long vowels. Hope this helps!

I felt the same thing about pattern V1926 when I saw where the breast pockets were positioned. The button looks like it’s on the center of the breast which looks weird plus I think visually it makes the breast look saggy in a sense. Other than that I love this style of coat and the other patterns are nice.

I would not call that Sandra betsina thing a top. It looks like a vest or dress. It looks like a star trek next generation alien costume. Actually I don't hate it. I think people will buy that vintage ball gown pattern for bridal gowns. I wonder if the nightgown is supposed to be an evening gown. It is beautiful. Sounds like the Claire dress is over constructed. It looks like a maternity evening dress. Pass. The strap detail top would look better with straps only in back. The straps in front are too much. It would be difficult to fit for a larger bust.
