the iceblock isnt made for nor designed for an ice replacement. Its designed to use in conjunction with ice and makes the ice last significantly longer. Its literally designed to melt faster than ice for that reason. When something melts it requires energy (heat) so the ice pack melting first causes it to suck the heat from the ice/water and the items in the cooler, causing the ice to last longer. It was NEVER designed to use alone.

Pretty sure it is meant to stay frozen longer, and once the ice starts to melt it hits the yeti block and re-freezes. That makes far more sense. But I suppose I have some research to do now! Aye! Science!

You're suppose to use the Yeti ice blocks in conjunction with regular ice. Alone they will just barely keep things refrigerator chilled. Along with that the items placed in the cooler should already be chilled before hand.

Thank you Hiker J for taking the time to make the video. I have a Roadie24 as well as a soft-side Hopper. I bought the Hopper first and I used my 4lb Yeti Ice in that - works great! With the Roadie, I have found that the 4lb Yeti Ice fits perfectly in the bottom of the cooler but you can not store an upright wine bottle with the 4lb Yeti Ice in the bottom. If you want to cool that bottle of wine, I suggest a 2lb Yeti Ice so you can get the wine bottle height on the other side. Again, thank you for taking he time to record your review. Happy Summer!

I wonder if one can stand that wine bottle with the Yeti 4lb thin ice.

Yeti ice isn't made to substitute ice, it boosts the overall efficacy. You may want to redo the test with actual ice added on top for more optimal results

Great review. An added note from a current owner: the small handle/ridges on each side of the cooler make carrying it with two hands remarkably easy if you aren't using the strap. Overall it's really well designed.
@georgedoolittle75744 жыл бұрын
Pre-cooling the cooler makes all the difference meaning 24 hours before the the 24 hour test stick a yeti ice in there thus bringing down the temp of the ambient air. Good habit to get into imo. Never to much yeti ice. One in the cooler and one in the freezer at all times.

From my understanding... Yeti Ice isn't intended to be used by itself. The product is designed to help keep actual ice frozen longer. Yeti ice on the bottom... fill up your cooler and top off with actual ice.

I have read this as well ... i guess when the regular ice melts and the water get down to the yeti ice its supposed to refreeze
@paulmason94824 жыл бұрын
I agree with Vanessa, I use a 4lb Yeti Ice at the bottom of my Hopper and then top of with gas station ice, I have found that the Yeti Ice 're-freezes; the regular ice as it melts. So, Yeti Ice 'boosts' the work-rate of regular ice. Also, remember that the more air or open space there is in your cooler, the less effective it is. Seriously, if you can't fill the empty space with ice, use a small towel for example.Or more beers, Just sayin!

this is the video of the guy talking about how its heavy and hard to drain the water without a plug? (im right handed) i put my left arm through the strap with the handle resting on my elbow to "lock it" use my left forearm to keep the lid closed and left fingers to crack the lid open slightly. Then usethe "finger slot"with my right hand to rock it up and drain the water. Im no body builder and its pretty easy even with 18 16oz beers and ice and water in it.

Nice review. I'll stick to my RTIC for now. I can't believe JEEP is still going with that makeshift 3rd brake light design after all these years. Gotta be a more streamlined way in putting it in that hardtop with a simple plug when you take it off or something more built in looking in the middle of the tire.

the yeti ice blocks are made to sit on top not the bottom. They are not a stand alone solution either . They are the first line of defense vs heat to keep the Ice from turning to water. As its supposed to sit on top of the ice absorbing the heat instead of the ice. Cold air sinks you want your ice block on top of your food and drinks
