Great content, I just picked up a Roadie 24. Was debating between Yeti Roadie 24 & Pelican 20 Elite. In the end I Decided Yetti for it's ability to have Aftermarket or Yeti dry storage trays added to the top to keep food items utensils out of the melted ice. But it has performed well being stored in a hot truck for three 12 hour shifts and still had a little ice left at the end of the 3rd day here in Florida. The $20 walmart cooler I was using I had to buy ice for it everyday. Long as it last just over a year it should pay for itself with my use.

My Roadie has kept ice in the back of my truck in SoCal summer heat for 6 days now. The ice is still hard. Only a bit has melted. I use a Yeti ice pack on the bottom.

I had that same pelican cooler and sold it for a Yeti. It was nice but you would get 2 days at most when its in the 90s. also it was slimmer so it would tip over easily if you stand or sit on it. the yeti holds a bit more and has higher build quality so its worth the extra money

These are a fantastic cooler.... just don't let the latches get broken or lost. I have been trying to get replacements for mine, to no avail.... Yeti has been absolutely no help. I'm not even trying to get them warrantied, be glad to purchase them. But can't find parts latches... Something to consider before purchasing.

I like that you mentioned the nylon webbing handle. Rigid cooler handles are a huge pain in a tightly packed trunk. This thing slips out easily, either with the webbing handle or the two recessed grab areas on the sides, and the smaller footprint takes up less space in the trunk or backseat. The other big selling point for me (aside from the Yeti reputation for quality and performance) was the internal height. I wouldn't get a cooler that couldn't fit a wine bottle vertically. This was the only cooler that I was able to find in the 20-25 quart range that could do that.

Besides the insulation the shape might help the Yeti hold ice since it will have a smaller surface area compared to the volume. Also I wonder how much sense a smaller high performance cooler makes. If you are going to be going for 4 days aren't you going to want something bigger?

Love my Roadie 24...I do have RTIC coolers as well, so I'm not a brand stan. Roadie holds 2 liter bottles which I like. I use dry ice in mine and get amazing performance. The Yeti is certainly a splurge, but for riding in the backseat floorboard of my truck sideways for easy access, it's perfect.

I have both the Yeti and Kong. The Yeti is far lighter and fits behind a car seat. The Kong has better ice retention. I typically will not exceed 48 - 72 hours for ice retention anyway. Nice review!

@1:24 you show the full range of the data. From this it is very clear that the temperature reading experienced some type of 'event' which caused and offset in three of the four coolers which is carried through to the comparison @1:31. These events were short lived and did not last long. Is this due to a lack of data points (it's hard to tell from this graph, never use smoothed lines). Based on the comparison @1:31 it appears that the rate of temperature increase is very similar between the four coolers. Although you are trying to show how long it took each cooler to get to a certain temperature the comparison is biased due to these events. There seems to be a rate change around 85 minutes consistent with all the coolers.

I purchased one-270$ out the door I can fit 15 bottles of water and 2 Pedialytes in there with a bag of ice, on an Asphalt barge for 12 hours it kept everything Cold, and I was in and out of it 2 or 3 times an hour, no drain plug is a bummer but I don’t regret buying it

I have the the Yeti 24 and the Pelican 20 The Yeti is a better cooler for longer ice retention. The Pelican on is a great day cooler but it doesn’t last as long.

The Orca has an Achilles heel. Insulation is lost at the handle. Pack some dry ice and the metal handle is ice cold. All the insulation is lost at the handles. The Rtic will have the same design flaw. Even with thinner insulation, the Yeti doesn’t have the metal handle thermal leak and that is why the yeti performs better.

@@chucknorris277 I've got multiple old basic colemans/igloos from 80s/90s/00s, kodi (generic yeti) and yetis. The old colemans/basic plastic cooler can have their purposes but they are nothing like a yeti/kodi/rotomolded cooler. The ice lasts 50% to 75% less, so going hunting or camping for the week it's a huge difference. They don't have great latches or hardware that can last years and years. nearly all my old plastic coolers don't have any latches or hardware (thankfully! Lol). I don't use them much anymore but keep them around for the nostalgia of camping as a kid plus I got a big garage with lots of room for storage lol. My favorite are the kodi branded ones bc they are 95% of what the yetis are and cost approx 50 to 70% less. The yeti roadie 24 is currently $250 - we got ours as a gift. I paid $220 for my kodi 125qt and $220 for my kodi 50 qt with big 10" no flat wheels/telescopic pulley handle. Vs $600 & $400 for yeti versions. So $440 vs $1k. Granted most people pay 25% more than I paid bc I got a great deal but still huge cost difference vs retail yeti for 95% the same product. Our company uses yeti exclusively for parties for the about the last decade (i.e. Week long summer beach party/long weekend at the lake/nightly Xmas party.... so I've got extensive yeti useage) and while I love the yeti brand my kodis last just as long with all the same features, so my colemans/igloos stay put and until I win the lottery I won't be buying more yetis.

People in Florida stating, yeti ice and 7 pound bag of ice lasting 3 days, do any of y’all open your coolers at all during this? I’m in Florida, yeti ice and 20 pounds of ice, I’m getting 2 days, cooler gets opened and closed all day, like my yeti just hoping someone would tell the secret. I’m aware of prechilled cooler, but I’m in construction and cases of water I buy are already sitting outside boiling lol

Freeze those water bottles and put them in your cooler frozen the night before to pre chill the cooler and slightly/mostly unfreeze the water bottles for use in the next few days. The next day pull those mostly frozen water bottles out and put a frozen ice pack on the bottom (lots of different brands do the same thing - help ice last longer and keep the cooler colder vs just ice) and or sides of the cooler. I have thin ones and thick ones for different use scenarios/different size coolers. Then put those slightly unfrozen water bootles and some ice in. Then your pre chilled cans/etc pack it tight. Air is the enemy. Ice/few more semi frozen water bottles all the way to the rim of the cooler. Shut it and enjoy for days to come!

I use the packaging from Omaha steaks, a dense foam which keeps cold for days, if you think about it, I pay for the colder and get free steaks and a bag of dry ice. then I sell them (colder) to my fishermen buddies for free fish,

Because you spend more money does not make a cooler better for most uses. Your use doesn't mean a thing to me because normal cooler users and uses are for drinks. You should keep a log on uses, times used, opened to be totally upfront on which is better for "normal use". The handle and drain plug are very important to users. To lighten the load, drain plugs are a must as you use them. On this size cooler do you really need Bear protection? An ABS liner is important for avoiding odor from the interior like a refrigerator does. There is a market for Yeti, long hunting or fishing trips. People tend to over buy thinking they have the quality if they need it. I never have needed cold retention more than 2-3 days. Never had warm beverage or food. My problem with reviews of products never includes value just an opinion that may be personal opinion to overspend in case you need it. I have found Igloo to meet the needs of 90% cooler users with out costing double. Some people like BMW'S verses Toyota. VALUE! Save your money!

Get real! I have a cooler that I bought over 40 years ago for $20 and it came with a 6 pack cooler and a 1/2 gallon thermos jug. I can put a case of 12 oz. cans of beer in it and some other stuff and two bags of ice($1.50 a bag) and it’s good for all day. So you say the the $250 yeti will go 2 days on ice. After I day when my 24 cans of beer are gone I go to the store and buy more beer and more ice simple. So in roughly another 100 years(140 total) the Yeti may pay for itself. Smart move financially. Maybe people really by a Yeti because they think that it make them look cool, I think it makes them look foolish. The problem with people is that they forget elementary mathematics.

I am not a scientist or an engineer but I can tell you the foam density is not the reason for its high performance. Most thermos flasks work by creating a vacuum between the inner and outer walls, or to but it another way the work just as effectively without any insulation.

You should just do it, record it, and post the video on KZbin yourself. If it ruins the cooler, the money you make from views will certainly make up for it. If it doesn't ruin the cooler, then you are all profit, plus some. Get a patent on the drain, make a deal with Yeti, and then you can get a girlfriend for each day of the week. Good luck !!
