Nice video! Just bought my 1999 lx with 156k miles and may I say, after 23 years, it still feels like you’re riding a new modern suv. Lexus did a great job on absolutely everything.

@@oneway1811 report after 7 months of usage, and me being extremely picky: - 1st gear to 2nd gear is sometimes noticeable because it has little clunks. Transmission is good but I should probably keep an eye on it, specially because most of the time Im only using it on traffiic. - had to take it to the mechanic because of front differential problems. - basic maintenance - suspension (original) is ok but kinda bouncy on bad roads Pretty much it, and have drove it around 7k miles. (Important to mention that I live in a country with very bad roads, 80% of the time in traffic, and distances are short)

Looking at one with 246,000 miles. Looks great, no leaks and no rust. Two owners, one for 5 years the other for 18. Only negative is a crack in windshield and front seats are definitely needing replacing. Maybe the back too. Timing belt replaced 10k miles ago. Owner only drives it 10k miles every few years so it’s not dogged out. Would you say it’s a worthy drop for $5-$6k? Got a little Rav 4 now but miss my 4 Runner.

I love sequoias but lets not get carried away. The only similarity is the engine. Yes it is well built but not nearly as well as an LX, and the LX is significantly nicer inside and out. The LX is also more capable. The sequoia has one thing going for it, size, but that's only if you need the extra space.

You can’t beat Toyota quality! I bought my 1999 LX ( same color) with 25,000 miles, I sold it with 250,000 and I’m sure it’s still going strong! I got crazy and bought a 2018 Rubicon which was very off road capable but I just didn’t trust it and it wasn’t me. I now have a 2017 GX 460 and I love it! That's awesome! And you're right. There's several long distant trips that people take with Jeeps.. Trucks... and Landcruisers.. These are great long distance cruisers. If you keep the vehicle close to stock, you can definitely get EPA or slightly better MPG. The problems is that people have this image of rugged off-road/overland vehicle and start to add bumpers, winches, roof racks, fuel tanks, etc... Then it becomes a dog and fuel economy tanks to the 9-11 mpg range. Same with the Land Cruiser 200/LX570. Drive it stock or add better A/T tires. It will perform just fine. The LC 200/LX570 (~700# heavier than LC 100/LX470 plus a couple of extra gears in the transmission) can definitely get 18-19 mpg on the highway as well with stock size A/T tires. Stock tires (285) on the LC 200 are wider (265) than the LC 100 as well.

I have this EXACT same car... A 2000 LX 470 with 245,000 miles. I love the thing, BUT it has only ever been serviced at the dealership and it has had $65,000+ in maintenance and repairs over the course of its life. The routine maintenance and parts failures average about $300-400 per month. Couple that with 11-13 MPG on premium fuel, and you've got a very expensive jalopy. Now, I love the thing and its still sitting in my driveway despite being replaced by a 2022 4Runner TRD PRO, but not recommended for someone without the ability to shell out a lot for repairs, maintenance and running costs. Not something I would recommend to any young person without disposable income.

That's a beauty. And, what a deal on the price. I've always loved those vehicles, but I'd be worried about the cost of scheduled maintenance. I bought a used LS 400 back in the early 2000s and every trip to the dealer was costly.

You're right with that Karl. Lexus service is very expensive! I would say that you definitely want to be somewhat mechanically inclined... like knowing how to change your own starter or alternator. If you know that then the only thing you'll have to bring it in for is the timing belt. If you do that they'll last forever! Thanks again for watching Karl!

Hey, that’s a weird issue. I haven’t heard of this yet. I would start by making sure you completely unplug the battery (if you haven’t already). Leave it unplugged for 10-15 minutes. Make sure everything completely dies. After that would consider taking it to a dealer. A lot of times they won’t charge you. Especially if you just tell them your problem. If I think of anything else I will let you know. Keep me updated on what happens

My 2002 4Runner has the same traction control. It’s saved my bacon a few times, but I do wish there was a way to turn it off, it annoyingly kicks in when I’m trying to power steer around corners on dirt roads. I also picked up the 2002 LX470 last year, same one, I like most everything about it except that horrible integrated stereo/ climate control system - there’s no easy way to replace it. Oh, and my sunroof got stuck open, that was an adventure to get dealt with, the steering wheel doesn’t telescope, the power antenna is broken, and one of the exhaust headers leaks. I still like it, but they definitely have a few issues, like all cars.

@@reviewedbytim when you push the traction control button to turn it off it only partially turns it off. Still some nanny system going on. But if you push and hold the button down for 3-5 seconds when you turn it off, an orange triangle comes on the dash and it is truly fully turned off. Can you say donuts in snow covered parking lots? Haha. Still not as drifty as RWD with its full time 4WD, but it can be turned off.

@reviewedbytim 11 ай бұрын
Thanks Bob. Congrats on your 100 series. I'm looking for one now that is equipped with Triple Lockers. This is a 2002. Such a great vehicle. No complaints at all. I recommend 2003+ for an lx470. Reason only for that is the upgraded transmission that has 5 forward gears instead of 4. The 2001-02 models have the updated interior (I wouldn't waste your time getting a 98'-99' model) and the 2003 and up has slightly (hard to tell.. mainly shifter design) more updated interior as well. But at the end of the day the main thing for me is the 5 speed auto transmission. Better acceleration. All are extremely reliable. Also when you get into the lx470's the suspension is hydraulic all the way around. Many people complain that they go out. I can tell you from personal experience that this is because people do not flush the system and maintain it. On my channel there is a review of one with 535,000 miles. The Hydraulic suspension last until 450k miles. All because it was maintained properly.
