Reviewing a £9.99 ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFET in LONDON! Was it GOOD?

Now I know quite a few of you really like the buffet videos and I haven't done one in a while so I've done my research and headed down to Kung Fu in Kingston to try their food. A lovely restaurant, incredibly cheap price but is the food up to scratch? Let's find out!

£9.99 is a real bargain in this day and age!! That definitely looks better than a takeaway meal and cheaper too. Personally, I would skip the starters like spring rolls, prawn toast as the carbs fill me up a bit too much and instead I load up on the mains 😀

Great review, buffets can be a bit dry sometimes and as you were there near closing time then I’m guessing some of the starters may have been under heat for a while. The mains looked fab tho - those ribs wow and the chicken looked spot on. Excellent value as well - and good customer service 👍

Buffet - all - you - can - eat places are pretty much all over the place. I would argue much of a muchness. Bought in ready cooked. Reheated for service. My favourite dish is at the Great Wall in Fleetwood. Meat in Portuguese sauce. I substitute meat for tofu. Originates from Macau, when the Portuguese ran it. Thanks for taking us along. Appreciated.

I tend to avoid buffets simply for the reason you pointed out a few times Gary in that some food could be a little dry especially if it's been sitting there for a while. However, if you are hungry, a buffet like that for a tenner is well worth it if you take into account it won't be your usual restaurant quality. Hats off to the management for giving you (your camera man) your money back ! I almost fell off my chair when you said that !

The first time I had fish and chips (I mentioned this because of all your great videos testing the famous fish and chips) was in a fish and chip shop in Notting Hill. What a really fascinating review. The place looked very spacious and comfortable and there was a good variety of food. They could have added more spice in the noodles because it was a little bland by the way you were describing them. Also the rice would have looked and tasted good with more ingredients. That beef and sweet and sour chicken looked succulent. My all round personal favourite Chinese food would be tofu. I absolutely love it. By the by, huge congratulations on the increasing viewership. I don't have a buffet often, but when i do, i try to get there as soon as they open as the food tends to be less drier and hot. Loved this review as the food did look really good, but you can't go on looks alone, obviously .

I’ve never been to a buffet . I almost did with a local Chinese, years ago but for some reason, I didn’t end up going. I think I’m a bit put off by the fact that people serve themselves. I level seen KZbinr go to buffet and they eat as much as they can and I actually feel a bit annoyed by that. The buffet make money from people that eat normal or a little extra but people that eat 10 plus plates are a little cheeky, imho.

For a buffet that looked fairly reasonable value with the usual standard basic chinese dishes.You will never walk away hungry from one of them but probably also never say the food is top notch.I would say that your rating is ok with what you had but as you say getting there towards the end of the session reduces the standard as food is always better when freshly cooked.Great review as always Gary and i look forward to them every few days

Well, that looks decent enough, and great value obviously. My favourites in terms of that Chinese takeaway style of food would be beef in black bean sauce with green pepper (I love that savoury fermented taste), and also hot and sour soup. At home, I like to use a yellow bean sauce (Haday, with the Yes! on the label), but have never seen that offered in takeaway or restaurants. Thanks Gary, I love your relaxed and polite style of reviewing. Such a welcome change from some of the more bombastic American food reviewers!

Great review, been watching a few of your videos and I really found the 'unlimited chips' one very helpful as I'll be over in that area in the new year. For this one though I always think 80% of Chinese food needs to be served from wok to plate. It's not the type of food that does well sitting around for long periods but I expect you know that. I'm with you on beef in black pepper sauce, the name pretty much told me what it might be like and your review confirmed it, that's not a negative, great price and from what you said decent customer service, certainly a good value place, It's not the kind of place I'd go looking for great Asian or Chinese experience but for what it is, I've been to a buffet in China town was no better than that place, great review, oh my favourite Chinese dish used to be Char Sui roast pork but I've not had a great one in years..

Nice and down to earth Gary - for a tenner it looked pretty good. I'm always wary of Chinese Buffets, but this looked a very nice place and the food was well presented and somewhat protected. Big thumbs up on being offered the refund for the camera man... refreshing to see. Yes, I think you'll have to revisit at 1pm and get the starters when freshly prepped! My favourite 'fake' Chinese food ('cos lets face it, it has nothing to do with real Chinese Cuisine!) is like you, the Beef and Black bean, or failing that, some Charsui Pork (even in a curry!). I'm also fond of the noodle dishes, especially with prawn and a side of bamboo shoots. Yum. Keep 'em coming.

Happy every time you upload a video, Gary! Never heard about the restaurant and its been a very long time since I was down in Kingston. But 9.99£ all you can eat buffet is cheap in these days. The wife is a huge fan of Chinese cuisine, but not sure we will take the 1 hour and 32 min trip from central London where we live, down to Kingston just for a buffet. But its quite obvious that here it's volume over value, from my point of view. My favourite Chinese dish, difficult question, I suppose chicken curry. Gary hi ! My favourite Chinese dish is Singapore Vermicelli and beef in black bean sauce It's really hard to find a perfect Singapore Vermicelli as they never seem to get the spicy heat levels right. And often replace char sui pork with a ham of sorts ! I have found 2 local takeaways who are spot on with chilli's prawns and char sui pork with spicy madras giving perfect heat. The king fu buffet looked good value for £9:99. The mains looked ace. I haven't been to London for about 25 years and I really enjoy it when you show your viewers round the capital it's great to see the many different cuisine s available and on offer the different standards and pricings . A fantastic channel - so interesting. 😃

I was impressed with how clean,and well decorated the place looked.We don’t really have many buffet’s in New York probably because we have two big China towns ,one in Manhattan,and the other in Queens,and you can get some great food very cheaply there.There are restaurants from all over China,on Wednesday I had dinner at a Sinhalese,they have a lot of soup dumplings,fish and herb dumplings in rice paper wrappers,lots of things like intestines,feet,tendons,also soup noodle dishes,and rice cake ones too.At my local takeout,my go to is hot,and sour soup,shrimp,and broccoli,or chicken in oyster sauce,or Singapore Mei Fun,all come with sticky rice.

Jaysis you’d just about get a McDonalds meal for that price. Great value with a fairly good selection and variety. Maybe not top notch but that’s most carvery’s. That's a very good point. By the time you try a triple cheeseburger, 5 chicken select meal and maybe a mcflurry. you'll possibly spend about £12.80 ish. Apple pies are not cheap either these days

I do not know how they do all these dishes for such a modest price. You can not expect fine Chinese cooking for that price, as ingredients cost a fortune. It is good that you include buffets in your reviews. The place looked super clean and spacious. Do try their à la carte menu next please, so that you have a true impression of the place. Please part with a little morsel for the cameraman. Poor thing. Thank you very much for putting in all the effort. It is much appreciated.

Thank you, Gary for another wonderful review, which was very fairly rated. Remembering out of the earth shattering price of £9.99, £1.67 of which is VAT. Leaving the restaurant £8.32 before expenses for food, building rates, staff and most importantly, energy costs.! In my opinion, it can only make real money during evening seating. They are missing the opportunity to up sell soft drinks, sparkling water, beers, wines, etc here. Your scoring was spot on considering the state of the offerings just before closing time. Another fantastic review Gary and I thought it was excellent value for London and no service charge too. I remember when you paid £3.60 for a can of coke in Chinatown. That means 3 cans of coke is the same price as this eat as much as you want. On that basis I think I may have scored it an 8 but it did look just average to good . Another great review.

Hopefully they are good buffets that have the fines. was invited to a buffet several years ago and grabbed a couple of items that were absolutely inedible and I couldn’t finish them. I felt guilty, but it wasn’t my fault 🤷‍♀️ I didn’t choose the place and found out later it had very poor reviews.

Hi Gary. A totally accurate and somewhat diplomatic review. Food has always got to have a compromised relationship with the heat lamps glaring from above. I get enthused whenever I get a notification you’ve posted a review. You’re the best food reviewer on KZbin by a country mile. 50k subscribers before Christmas wouldn’t surprise me at all and would be deserved. Fantastic channel.

Shouldn't Use heat lamps just heated trays with lids on. this buffett had open trays of food never seen that before not the best method

Gary, Surprised all the covers were off the food. Some Chinese Buffet here use either clear covers or roll up covers, to keep moist warm air in to help prevent drying out of items. Enjoyed the video and good afternoon from the U.S.A.

I am always curious to know the times of when you enter these establishments as seeing how or not busy they are gives me a indication of what's the best time to go if I did. I think that it looked ok for that price. The rice did not look a great quality one, but the other meats looked lovely and well cooked, I would certainly say you had the very last of the days portions Shame you missed out on the cakes ect. How dose the cameraman sit there without eating! he must be drooling!!!!! Thank you Gary for sharing another meal

Always thrilled when I see you have uploaded another review. The question I always want to know is, where has he been this time. To get a Chinese bufffet for £9.99 is excellent value, even though it is at lunch time it would be worth going. I noticed you didn't get a drink. I assume these are extra and/or can you opt for tap water? I'm sure that others would like to know too. As always a good review. Thanks

For £9.99 and arriving quite late, I totally agree. In all honesty, so many times I’ve ordered Chinese, and some parts were dry. My only gripe would have been, where were the prawns! 😂. Last buffet I went to was 30 years ago. The 2 people I went with absolutely loved crispy duck and prawns. literally that’s all they ate. Plate after plate. They never left any, but I felt really bad for the restaurant. I had two full plates and was really full. But you know the story, after a few hours you’re hungry again! I’d give it a 5.

The place looked very clean and tidy and for that price it's pretty difficult to find fault. Definately a bit of a timing issue and I reckon taking everything into consideration that could well be an 8 or more out of 10. I'd certainly give it a go.

Excellent review Gary as always - very measured. I could take issue and say its down to the restaurant to provide top quality unlimited cooked food for an undpredictable demand base throughout the day etc etc - but, for a tenner this looks pretty good. The calibration for quality v price is always very subjective but the way i look at is this: If you charge me £40 for fish and chips or steak and chips then i want excellent quality and that gets you 10 out of 10. If you charge me a tenner for food that is Ok then you cant get 10 out of 10 but i will go perhaps 7. A tenner for a chinese buffet is pretty good these days - especially when you can leave the items you dont like and major on the ones you do.

7/10 from me Gary,Yes,I should think if you got there when the doors opened, you would of had a slightly better experience,but saying that,apart from the soup,all the other starters looked like it came out of a box from a supermarket,they are what they are and nothing really to make you say “Wow”. As for the mains,all looked pretty good to me,the ribs didn’t look fatty or meaty enough to hold on to any moisture though,all in all,a fair price for a fair meal and a fair mark.Cheers Gary 👍

Rarely subscribe to these sorts of food-review channels, but love your whole style and presentation. If you ever get a chance - can I reccomend going to Deeney's Cafe in Leyton? The owners, Carol and Paddy, are lovely people and they serve a unique sandwich called The Macbeth. Basically, it's a grilled cheese sandwich with haggis! They add caramelised onions, garlic and mustard - and honestly, even non-haggis fans love it. If you ever find yourself in Leyton, they're well worth a visit. Love the videos either way.

I agree with your comments about some of the food. Thats the only thing wrong with these all you can eat buffets, if its not busy then the food can be out for hours. The price is spot on at £9.99 though.

Hi Gary - great video as always. [Aside - and call me a misery !! I think the all you can eat buffet is a great idea and usually good value, the key point being you can go up as much as you like. But the one thing that puts me off is the wastage by certain customers who load their plate up until they need a crane to take it over to the table, eat 1/3 of it, push plate aside and then go up with a fresh plate for round 2, 3, 4 etc. I have seen this before and it annoys me ! ]. / Your choice of main course looks fabulous. That beef in black bean sauce looks epic. [Aside - Beef in black bean sauce is so easy to make too. I was amazed to find out many years ago that the melt in the mouth texture is created by marinading the beef in bicarbonate of soda and soya sauce ! ] / I think overall pretty good value. Put it this way - would rather pay to easy this then by a Big Mac or Burger King Meal!! / Mark
