If you live in Florida it will probably work all year round ... if you live in Alaska then not even in summer. If you live somewhere in between ... will probably work short time in spring (1-2 hours), several hours during summer and reduced again in autumn, but not during winter time, but won't work below freeze anyway ...
We are using it in a fish pond and we didn't want to attach the fountain with the suction cup and liked to let if freely floating around. With the nozzles too much water loss (sprinkling outside), hence just removed the extension and nozzle and now it's working great for the main propose - adding some extra oxygen to the fish pond - especially during summer when water gets quite warm and oxygen will be low.

Yes, Ol' Mr. Thickey has one of these fountains! Very well worth the purchase! The height of the spray tells you the intensity of the sunlight!! Make sure you take it apart once in a while & give the parts a good cleaning. An old toothbrush is fine for this. Also make sure there is plenty of water underneath the fountain. I enjoy just watching the spray go up & down. For some unknown reason the birds haven't yet gotten the message on how wonderful a spray bath is! "Gifs goot feelingk"!!!

@@jenniewatson6596 Anytime. Yes, many have problems with just a bit of cloud. The new ones usually come with a built-in battery which can work for hours even after sunset like this one (amzn.to/2T4rABk) which I've tested on my channel and it works great

I had them and trick is get heavy steel plate and stick together and weight down under water centre works well and Sun can't burn solar panels.

I recently purchased two of them. I love the fact it works on solar. The ONLY issue I have is the wind. I am using the widest birdbath bowl I can find but I cannot use any of the additional bubblers, the wind blows out all my water. Otherwise great product. ☺

Thanks. Yeah - did same thing. I attached it to the dark block, which you see in the middle of the pond here. Normal thin yarn worked well, also for longer time. Unfortunately sold the home 2 yr ago. No pond any more now :-(

Too bad you don't show how the item stops functioning after several months, despite keeping it clean and free from obstruction. There are many complaints on the web about this happening. The unit I have is made by Ankway and there are others that look very similar. It sounds like water is in it when I shake it, yet the company claims it is waterproof. I am hoping the company steps up and resolves the problem. I first thought it was a great purchase...very charming item that worked right away and with different spray heads. So I wonder if anyone has had theirs for years and if so what the brand is.

Yep - it's definitely not built for eternity. I bought from about 5 different sellers/manufacturers with same result: they all died after 1 year at latest. I guess ... same as usual ... what you pay is what you get ...

There's no 'charge'. Sun = on, shade = off. Here in FLA the fountain gets pretty high at noon

This will only pump when the sun is shining quite brightly, so not at night and little or none on cloudy days and parts of days when the sun is low in the sky. Does anyone know, does the amount of sunlight in SW Florida result in a sufficient amount of water movement that mosquitoes can't effectively lay and hatch eggs in the fountain? I like the concept but don't want to add to standing water that will increase mosquito population. I don't know whether the fact that the water will move a fair amount for perhaps 4 hours on a typical day is enough to prevent mosquito breeding. I'd love to know.

I recieved this yesterday and the instructions say just put it in the sun and it will start. Mine is just spitting water about every 10 seconds. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This usually happens when there is no full sun. Either cloudy day or spring, fall or winter. If you experience this with full (summer) sun, I would return it.

Sorry, don't have it any more, but as far as I remember you can turn the box with the strainer to the outside and then grab it with the finger nail in the notch and pull it apart.

This model does not have a battery and I've never seen one with battery. They would be much larger and much more expensive. Maybe for $50 there could be something around, but I've never seen one with battery.

That's a problem indeed. You will definitely have no steady flow below the trees. Probably just some short pumps from time to time. No adjustment possible and no energy is stored. Hope they will come with such options after time.

doesn't work well w/ a birdbath... sprays water out and depletes the supply... have to continue to refill the birdbath even if I center the fountain, the wind blows it out. I had to leave off the nozzles and just let it bubble. Hardly worth it if you wanted a fountain.

They don't last forever - true, but mine lasted about 6 months on average. The don't like too hot, too cold or too much algae (clogging).

Same thing with mine. I wrote a comment about this because it stopped and it sounds like there is water in it which is not supposed to be. It's only July, and I have been keeping it clean from little evergreen needles and slime. There are lots of complaints about this problem on the web, and there are many units that look similar which are made by different companies. Mine is Ankway.

Sorry, haven's seen one, but it will cost much more than such cheap fountains. It would need much larger solar panel to feed battery and pump at same time

Amazon sells many different solar pumps and I think I saw one for under $40.00 that does have battery backup without having to have a separate solar panel.
