I think the Great Valley Adventure had a missed opportunity; instead of Littlefoot immediatly accepting Chomper, he should hate him. Think about it, he saw his mother being attacked by the Sharptooth, who's also a T-Rex. I think it would've been interesting if Littlefoot learns to not judge someone for the actions of another.

Journey Through the Mists had a similar missed opportunity with Ali. I'm sure we've all heard the comparisons before, but Ali could have been (and in many ways is) to Littlefoot what Faline is to Bambi and what Nala is to Simba. Sure, the fact that they're all still kids would hinder that, but still.

Yes, and no in the same time. Sure, Littlefoot could be, legitimaly, pissed off by Sharptooth in general. But here, with Chomper, it with a specimen that just hatched and who have (and still to these day) ANY blood from whatever herbivore on its hands. That wouldn't be legitimate that Littlefoot hate one sharptooth that did anything bad yet. That would be universal racism at a high degree. You really imagine that in this franchise ? So, we have such theme here and here, especially in these very first movies, but that was always in a soft and low level, enough low to be scrapped overtime, and give the educative messages. I don't think that would be fitting or possible to include a high level of racism inside the franchise. Think all about this. If Littlefoot don't hate at sigh at the first seconds Chomper despite the latter being a sharptooth, and even want to help him, that show how open, disinterested and responsible Littlefoot is, like his mother would want him to be. And the fact that he made distinction between sharptooth is good too. He don't place everyone in the same basket. Also, Littlefoot himself directly mention that he want and that its possible to made Chomper a sharptooth that will not hunt and eat others dinosaurs, that there maybe a possibility to made him like them. Due to being an hatchling at this point. Which will be effective at the end as the latter entries show it. With Chomper, which have been born sourounded by herbivores that decided to be friend with him despite of its nature, will refute to eat herbivores and only eat insects instead. Here, we have a sort of message that run throughtout the entire franchise instead of one message that only count for one movie.

Maybe it's my nostalgia speaking, but I honestly didn't mind that Grandpa Longneck didn't die at the end of Journey Through the Mists. I think that his illness raised the stakes compared to some of the other sequels, and that made it rewarding when the gang found the flowers and saved his life at the end of the film. I'm also glad that Littlefoot didn't lose any more parental figures.

It sucks that we lost 19 minutes of footage from the first movie because Spielberg thought it was too scary for the kids. And much of it involved Sharptooth. Time of the Great Giving is still my favorite of the sequels. I always enjoyed the bullies, especially their song "When You're Big".

These movies were a huge part of my childhood and my lifelong love for dinosaurs. I used to watch the first six movies on loop as a kid. My mom even used to record them onto VHS when they showed on tv. Sure, the sequels have that “direct to video” energy, but the original is a timeless masterpiece.

Will you do the TV Show that occurred between the 13th and 14th movie as well? All the episodes are on KZbin and give much needed context for characters in the 14th movie as well, while also bringing back some old characters for certain episodes, and the series as a whole actually not being bad, many episodes were quite enjoyable last I remember.

Wow, Red Raptor, I got to say. I really was excited to see this review. I honestly do enjoy the Land Before Time and a lot of what you said is why I like the series. The original is definitely in my top three due to not being a fan of the sing alongs and being too g rated moving forward but I can see why they changed it and I'm fine with it for the most part. The Great Valley Adventure I forgot how good this sequel was and honestly between the egg references from TheGamingBeaver and the introduction of Chomper and his parents, solid film. Plus this introduced the idea when I was a kid of T-Rex being caring parents and between Chomper's parents and the Buck and Doe from the Lost World, I can see both why I like T-Rex families plus the color green on the tyrant king. The Time of the Great Giving was ok, not as good but I agree with adding character development to Cera's Dad and especially with Grandpa Longneck, who's my favorite character of the series as he reminds me of my grandpa. They both are identical minus one being a human and the other an Apatosaurus. Plus seeing raptors in the series was cool. The fourth film is where the series drops the ball for me as well. It had some good but it had its mistakes as well. Just glad Grandpa Longneck didn't die, I get it would've made sense, but losing him would have ended my enjoyment for the series because I genuinely love his character. But yeah the film started strong then came to a halt once the second act started. Excited to see 5,6,7 and 8 get reviewed. Until then, keep up your dinotastic content, stay safe and have a wonderful day. See ya next time.

Oh yes, land before time that’s how I got into dinosaurs are least it was one of them my cousins actually used to have the land before time VHS is until they gave them to me. I still have them but I’m getting rid of them as a matter fact when I was a kid, the sharptooth design from the original and in the 90s are specifically talking about the black green shark tooth. Whatever you want to call it looks scary looking, but those red eyes teeth and sound. When I was a kid I used to think that grandpa Lanez voice sounds like my grandfather, which unfortunately he passed away back in 2016 but no and Mr. three Horn. I do like the character of him at times, but he can be a bit of a douche bag at times as a matter of fact, I actually like all of the sequels from the 90s and in the early 2000s but some of the early 2000s went haywire, which you’ll talk about later, but overall land before Time the first one and the fourth sequels are pretty good to this very day

Personally, I think the first is my fav. With a close second being V (The Mysterious Island) and my third being the one with the swimming marine reptile that doesn't talk (I still have no idea what dino it is and what the movie is called). My fav is the first because it's one of the only movies where the Sharptooth actually feels like it's trying to kill the group. In all the other, the Sharptooth just stand there for like 10 seconds before trying to attack, just to miss. The first Sharptooth is actually attacking and trying to kill the group. My second fav is the fifth movie because I just liked it as a kid so I have some nostalgia lol. But I like Chomper, his parents, and the Giga. That's it. My third fav is the one with the swimming marine reptile (that doesn't talk) because ig I just like sea creatures. Idk, I thought it was cool (and also liked it as a kid - call me bias for having some nostalgia, but it doesn't make it bias!

I still remember when I was little and my grandma bought me CD version of the first The Land Before Time movie. Now I'm almost 19 and I still live 11 the Land Before Time movies! 12,13 and 14 were really bad. Btw. Am I the only one that actually really likes fourth movie? And Ali too

Honestly, the general take of the Direct-To-Video sequels, with the tone more soft, light-hearted, fun and with the full-on songs here and here, isn't bad at all ! And work for the entire of them ! And is better, as a move and direction/artistic choice for a direct-to-video production than the scary, more serious and eerie atmosphere of the very first, which was a theatrical/cinema movie release. To be completely honest and objective, I don't think that would have being good to have the same exact atmopshere and tone and format than the first movie for the remaining of the franchise, even for most of the sequels, and that would have work long for them on the duration. And yet, even with the overal different tone of the sequels, we still get very serious or dark moments, themes, high emotional and educative messages throughout regulary. Like when Littlefoot meet for the first time his dad in "The Great Longneck Migration", which is an entry pretty far in the franchise.
