In the last movie starring Charlie Sheen, “Navy Seals” the optic used is comically fictional but with all the white lines he was doing there is some foresight. The real life equivalent is being worked on that uses HyperSpectral imaging that can be adjusted for thin layers of material. The lenses used are very expensive and were originally for archaeological study but without a doubt the United State Military has expressed some interest.

@whomagoose68972 жыл бұрын
As to the use of a M-2 bmg machine gun. There is a Y shaped thumb switch to fire the Ma-Duece. When the thumb switch is depressed it fires. There is a tube like protrusion in the center of the two handgrips. There's a switch twisting left or right. One is for full auto fire the other is a switch for single shot. There are machinists in all US military services that can drill and tap the threads to mount scope rings. Lots of pictures are available showing a scope mounted on a M-2 machine gun. The M-2 can fire one shot at time. Your friend is wrong. That show called Myth Busters had a demonstration to debunk the story about Carlos Hathcock shooting through a scope. According to Myth Busters the bullet did not go through a modern scope. Modern scopes have as many as 13 lenses inside the tube. Problem is that Viet Cong sniper was using a old Mosin-Nagant rifle with old PU scope that was 4x power. Not a modern variable power. The PU scope had 3 lenses. Sure a bullet cannot go through multiple layers of lenses or glass. It did go through that very simple Soviet PU scope. I heard the "sniper school" in Stalingrad was 2 to 3 days. They were losing people that fast. That Mosin-Nagant rifle, with that destroyed PU scope is in the offices of the USMC's head shed Hq. Possibly in Quantico or Washington DC. So Myth Busters was wrong.

It's funny, because the "thermal" view that the sniper in that last clip sees actually reminds me of the new ENVGs. What with the outlines and the ability to switch seamlessly between night vision and thermal imaging (or even mix the two, with thermal profiles showing up as outlines while running NV -- look it up, it's super neat). ENVGs obviously weren't even so much as an idea at the time that movie came up, so it's more a case of it being a neat little coincidence.

You are a true hero. Not only because of your accomplishments in the service, which were certainly something anyone could and should be proud of. But what has impressed me more, was your willingness, for example, that I saw in an interview, I believe with a Country musician/singer, in which you exposed your heart in a way that few of us would have the courage to do. You showed emotional vulnerability, and rather than try to present with some sort of stereotypical machista 'I'm-a-STUD" BS, you were true to yourself, and to all of us. Also, many of us have found ourselves on that downward spiral that tends to accompany posttraumatic stress - the bad kind - and your description of how you broke out of it - when your son was born - was truly beautiful. I hesitate to use that word, because it may be misunderstood, or even in the worst case taken to be mockery. But it is anything but, and any fool who would take it as such is just that, a fool. You accomplished things that very, very few men have been or would be able to accomplish, and I salute you for all you've done. But the legacy I hope your son will be able to appreciate is your courage in telling the truth, the hard truth, about things like killing and death. God bless you brother, wishing you true peace of heart and of mind.

Hey brother, great video. I didn't have the opportunity to get in the military. I wanted to be a Marine like my dad. I had bad legs. Long story. Anyway, my dad shot long distance, not a sniper, after the Marines he became a gunsmith, and 50 plus years later he retired as on of the greatest gunsmiths in the country. He built rifles for hunters that go out west. One of his rifles took an elk at 1600 yards. Another at 1100, several at 500 to 1000 yards. Funny, the hunters were military snipers. Please keep the videos coming brother. I also love your stories . PEACE ✌ P.S. I have just acquired a 300 win mag. Can't wait til spring to hit the range. Be safe.
