Love your vids. I only use DAM reels. Still have 3 New in the Box from the 7 bought over 35 years ago. Only 1 of the 7 have died from use and abuse, the other 3 users are still going strong. Might have to send you one for a makeover, if you are taking orders that is.

Man, thank you so much! DAM Quick were my first rolls when I started spinn fishing back in 73 here in Switzerland. Brings back memories. Unfortunately I do not have the old rolls anymore........... Your vid inspired me to order a new one.

Thank you for your information on where to get Quick Dam reels. I like what you did to the Quick Super to reduce weight, it is a heavy reel to start with. I have several on different sizes and the simplicity of how these reels are made is amazing. Lots of US reels are becoming very expensive and for the most, they are not even made in the US despite their advertisements. Just as well get something well made, as these Quick reels have proven to be. Thanks again,

My all time favorite reel is my Dam Quick 3000. I’m 60 and my father owned it as far back as I can remember. It looks a mess but it still works like new. Amazing quality.

Just picked up an old DAM Quick 330 online ; and they say they still a great reel to use and they often compare them to the vintage ABU Cardinals - which last forever and they still catch fish . They actually catch a lot too with a nice slow retrieve speed for baits ; and a decent drag when set correctly. They also tend to Cast a long way and are easy to control in general .

Thanks for your quick reply I was also wondering if there are any shops or individuals where I can send my reel out to get those slots our holes machined into my reels
@bigdmc111 жыл бұрын
I do not know of anyone doing that. I could do it for $40 plus shipping.

I was looking for assembly of the Quick 220N. I had disassembled it for cleaning and lubricants. Upon assembly I could not get the bail installed properly. Upon further investigation I discovered the bail had been bent (probably happened during our move). I was successful in recovering the correct configuration. I pitched this with the 110 $ 330. Spent many weekends float fishing for bass. Caught linkers on all 3 but the 220N was my favorite.

This is some nice stuff but what about warranty ? What if I have to send it in for repair shipping to Germany would cost more than a new one? Is there a dealer in the USA to cover the warranty?

So I just discovered your channel and not sure if you monitor this video in particular but I have a question about the 330 model and why it has a reverse if you knew or where to find out . Do you know where maybe ? You seem to have resources I couldn't obtain. I really like your channel too btw, and have subscribed also learned alot about the reel and it's relatives. Thank you for that and hope to hear from you .
@bigdmc14 жыл бұрын
Bill Krake Yes the model 330 has a reverse with the old clicker style most all reels have a reverse which I guess you could use if you wanted to let line out slowly or something not 100% sure what it is used for but most reels have a switch that you can wind backwards

Well I think it’s made in China although the reel says German on it but it doesn’t say made in Germany the box says designed and engineered in Germany which tells me it’s made in China

I was able to make the one on the 270 by cutting off the bail and grinding it down to look smooth then re-plated it. I also made one from scratch but that took way too long.

Hey, I’m a collector and user of the Dam Quick reels. Before I buy one online, I have a few fishing buddies I take that just can’t use left handed winding reels. Therefore I’m wondering if you have any experience with the Dam 331N model, it appears you can switch it from left or right hand receive. My manual for my 330N says the 331N winds at a higher ratio and is quoted as “ambidextrous”. Do you know if that is true? Cheers, let me know, keep up the great instructional videos, Jeff from Ontario Canada
@bigdmc16 жыл бұрын
flyfishinghockey The DAM 331N can be changed however there is a part that has to be changed inside for it to work right so unless it comes with that extra part I would not buy one with the handle on the left side I happen to have one that’s a left-hand model with the handle on the right side that’s a high-speed I would sell I know this because I bought it thinking I could switch it over to a left-hand side and it wouldn’t work
@flyfishinghockey6 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for answering, I’m assuming the part inside the 331N that you say has to be switched out is the brass arm that drives the center pin up and down and attaches to the winding handle gear. So the one I have gone ahead and ordered is left handed winding, did you say you have a 331N that is right handed winding, if so could you send me a picture of the brass arm, maybe one of your followers has that part or I could trade with someone. I’ve looked closely at the schematics and it makes sense to me that part would have to switch out to the other side or it would bind and cross.
@bigdmc16 жыл бұрын
flyfishinghockey Yes that is the correct part I don’t know how to send a picture through KZbin why don’t you contact me through my email address and we can correspond back-and-forth that way I would be willing to trade you as I want to switch mine to the left side my email is darrin@bigdmc.com

nice to see restoring old reels , Europeans where smart to create the left hand wind also the handle is not in the way when casting aswell as not double handling the rod when fishing is casting lures less energy spent more time fishing

A reel with endless wheel and worm gear, as well as the presentation in its luxurious case, made it rather unique and attractive ! At least at the time of its commercialization! I have a DAM Quick RETRO with the same gear system. The result is an exceptional softness! I hope the translation is correct.

Great skills on display but as a lover of vintage reels I do see this kind of alteration of great old reels as vandalism - to me you've ruined them - please stop it, buy yourself some modern plastic reels and leave the vintage reels to folk who like them as they are - sorry but there it is. PS. I would say more but I'm in the middle of converting a classic Jaguar E Type into a shocking pink dragster then I'm off to Paris to put some lipstick on the Mona Lisa.
@plutoplatters9 жыл бұрын
Twirlyhead guess what you are !
@jimquantic9 жыл бұрын
+Twirlyhead In all respect, the comparison to great art is off the mark. There are enough of the old reels for people to keep them as they are. And as re. drilling holes to reduce weight--"don't do that" is like telling a guy with a hot rod "don't customize your exhaust--don't add dress wheels--YOU got no right". Sure he does, for the main reason that it BELONGS TO HIM, NOT YOU. The Mona Lisa--belongs to the world--a dragster in the garage, or a reel, does not. All you can say, if you want to be fair, is "I like to leave them alone--as they were intended", and that's all you can really say, if you are being fair.
@Twirlyhead9 жыл бұрын
Jmichael Isbell I stopped reading after "In all respect". People who begin like that usually mean the opposite.
@jimquantic9 жыл бұрын
I hear you on that--in my case, I meant it. Sorry if it hurt your feelings, I really am. And even more sorry you can't address my argument in favor of allowing people to modify their own reels. But that is the joy that comes with "stop reading" thinking--you don't have to think, or reply, sort of like the little kid who plugs his ears and screams while others talk. Then again, I guess you won't read this.
