If you're current on the show, you know this is obviously not filmed with the last 3 or so episodes in mind. If youd like to hear more of my complete thoughts about Mike and Ximena, as a former sex worker, I've posted them on my website: blaqueinthecity.com/2022/04/16/this-reality-tv-couples-story-reveals-the-reality-of-sex-workers-dating-their-clients/

i also think Ben has an influence on her. the religious stuff, if she does believe in it and didn’t just go along with it since he’s so religious, then that could be significant. since Ben loves to talk abt how much God wants him to pursue this young woman. and once they were cast and had cameras in Peru, Ben had an incentive to get her to show up for filming so he didn’t look like he got catfished again. so he might have pressured her. and from the Tell All they showed video where they were more coupley, hugging and stuff. so it seems like she has some affection for him, and maybe she didn’t want to show much of that on the show initially cuz she had just met the man and he was kinda intense. if i remember correctly when he first came to see her she had told him not to come but he ignored that. that would turn me off for sure, so i can imagine why she would struggle to connect with and trust him in the season while being filmed. annnnnd she wanted to get the acting going, but maybe she second guessed if doing it this way was simmering she’s really wanted to do. ik lots of ppl think her story is completely fake, but the pics she sent do look like a highly edited version of her. so i could see it being a money hussle &/or sincere connection &/or a boost for her acting career. i think all those can coexist right? humans are contradictory and complex

As a disabled person, I respect the hell out of Caleb admitting where he was at and being real about the fact that Alina is NOT like any other woman he's dated. Because she's not! In my experience, disabled people just want others to be considerate and to be their authentic selves around us. What's not cool is when someone is really forcing this "I don't even NOTICE their disability" act because they think that's what we need to feel good about ourselves or something? Like, dude, I'm an adult. Trust and believe that I've processed the full extent of my disability and can handle whatever feelings come up for me, I don't need you to be my emotional bubble wrap. And it's just completely understandable that an abled partner would have feelings and things to process because it brings up a lot of our internalized ableism. It's normal. And healthy. And it doesn't make you a bad person inherently, as long as you aren't acting like an asshole

I'm a bit reminded of the "mail order bride" scenario (ohhh, capitalism), where I noticed that the men specifically sought women who were not in a position to demand very much from them personality or physical chemistry-wise etc. due to economic desperation. And relatedly, you nailed it there at the end with why men seek much younger women.😅I've met quite a few of these Peter Pans in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's crawling with them.

GWORL. Guilty as charged over here in the Bay. 👈 Age-gap relationships have dominated my love life over the past nearly ten years…aaaand NO REGRETS!!! 💕 Although the difference here is we both mutually demand personality as well as physical chemistry. The maturity level disparity between men and women *is* very real. And I’ve met plenty of older/younger lesbian couples who work out nicely, as well.

@@starryeyedtarot8876 Love your perspective here! I’ve found myself falling into relationships like that too. I wonder why so many men seem to mature slower? I don’t think that’s biological. Perhaps it’s because of the way society gives men so many more chances (esp white men) than women when they make mistakes or mothers who coddle them??

aside from mike being mike and everyone blaming Ximena (I could rant about that but i won't because this would be too long), one of the biggest things that annoys me is how they expect her to learn English but they (as in everyone that speaks English and is from America like Mike and Ella for example) don't put in the effort to learn their partners' languages. I don't see Ella learning Mandarin for Johnny. It's another double standard. why should someone put in the effort to learn a whole new language (a difficult one at that) for you while you don't do the same for them?
@fanime1

I get so annoyed cause it's like "you've been dating for 2 years and you didn't bother to learn Spanish!? NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT!" But I do understand them wanting their partner to learn English if they're gonna be living in America, that's gonna be really useful/necessary for them. I feel like both people should try and learn the other's language because not only would it help with these huge language barriers some of them have, it would show that they're actually invested in the other person and they're making an effort.

I’m slowly learning Lao to better communicate with my bf’s parents/family and something I want our children to learn from their grandparents. I love my partner and his culture is very important to me that I know about his culture. I also recognize that because he is Asian, he isn’t generic. I never assumed what his ethnicity is, and I understand that Asian is an umbrella term. Each Asian country is so different from each other from Taiwan and China and Laos and Thailand. She calls her ex “the Indian,” they’re Asian too. Indians aren’t like other Asians? Indians aren’t like other Indians and Asians and other Asians, stop generalizing a population and understand the subcultures within, especially if you’re going to be OBSESSED with “Asian” things. Your fiancé is Chinese, it’s disrespectful to go in about Japanese things and calling him your Asian prince, definitely not seeing him as a person. I’ve asked myself if I fetishized Asians because I have an attraction to them, but I still find other ethnicity’s attractive, but Ella has made me realize that I do not fetishize them since I can see and respect the difference and see my partner as a person before their ethnicity. My best friend is Indian (I never had an interest in anything Indian since I’ve never been exposed to the culture) and I spent hours just listening to her culture and learning bits of her language because I care about her as a person and her culture is important to her and now I know so much about India and genuinely love it because it makes me feel closer to her. Her fiancé lost his mind when he saw a screen shot from my phone where her name was saved in Hindi. If you GENUINELY care about a person you will take time to understand and learn about their country, especially if they’re leaving that country for you. I do a lot of homework to connect better with those people in my life because they’re important to me, and funnily enough, both cultures are different and I can’t get by just knowing one, it’s called putting in work. End Rant: I hate her racist ass.

Trash TV is lovely. My #1 guilty pleasure. To name a few: The "Love Is Blind" drama this past season was pretty fun to dissect. It drew lots of reactions from the KZbin mental health and relationship communities. "Too Hot To Handle" is one of my favorite shows were they tackle hook-up culture and oversexualization and see if the incentive of a shared cash prize pool can encourage deeper connection through celibacy or at least peer pressure. "Are You The One?" isn't my favorite for content or concept, but it adds a pretty interesting mystery game to decipher who seems perfect for eachother on paper through an algorithm vs. how it plays out in practice.
@julesmallow
@julesmallow 2 жыл бұрын
I love all these shows but I really think the messaging of Too Hot to Handle is so fake. They claim to try to be exploring the concept of deeper connections, but the show relies on people breaking the rules to create drama that makes it more engaging. The stuff they choose to film and focus on, shows they're trying to sell the show through sexualization. It's really bizarre how it claims to be trying to make people less shallow by motivating them to have less sex with... money
@rachelsarmientotack
@rachelsarmientotack 2 жыл бұрын
@@julesmallow Oh absolutely. It's a trash reality show designed to entertain over any other motive. That's why they cast prime examples of hyper-sexual and beautiful youth who are ultimately driven by both sex and money. And then the emotional confusion between these two very shallow priorities creates drama. And as they create social bonds through physical attraction and even friendship... the mutual benefit of shared money often wins out a little bit more through the course of the show. Thus showing the "success" of the premise that emotional bonds and deeper social connections win with a majority of the cast. And the couple sociopaths or the people dropped in later in the season who never got the same chance to emotionally bond provide additional entertainment and moral foils to keep the audience invested at the edge of their seat. For trash TV. I find it far more intriguing overall than say.... The Bachelor where a load of women are simply encouraged to compete for the affection of a man that they maybe get a couple hours of face time with per week for 6 weeks and then are expected to be deeply in love and want to get married.

im so happy to see this omg!!! the tell all was so trash. so many issues not brought up. Kimbaly pressuring Usman for sex was so horrible, i couldn’t watch those parts. she also threw a drink in his face - bad and unacceptable behavior. i too hate the “if genders were switched” thing cuz it’s so often used by cishet men to disrupt womens’ conversations abt SA, but it does make sense to me to bring it up in instances like Kimberly and Usman this season. i don’t think anyone of any gender should be treated like tht. the tell all really glossed over so much. Ximena was done so wrong by the show, except when she revealed tht Mike met her on the cam site AND offered her money to get off it. i fucking hate Ben. the way he uses god to justify pursuing a 24 year old woman. noo. and it’s interesting to me how Alina’s racist social media posts got her kicked off (rightfully imo), but abusive behavior exhibited in the show is okay. i recognize it’s 90 Day Fiancé and there’s always bad stuff in there, maybe it’s me who’s become more sensitive to how these things are displayed on reality tv. and yet i am still watching.

@@chanteoulet true! i watch a lot of 90 Day. so im not surprised, but maybe im just more critical and noticing that in myself, like questioning why im against a lot of the behavior in the show yet i watch it still? and what my support of the show means more broadly. cuz i don’t even think the tell all should address some/any of the contestants’ more serious issues. cuz that would most likely be a mess too. like the way Kat breaks down the sex worker aspect of Ximena & Mike’s relationship (on her website) is not how the show would handle it for sure, and they could be harmful if they further demonize her for being a SWer, which Jasmine engaged in a lot of that talking shit abt sugar babies. i can see why they try to avoid discussing certain topics in the Tell Alls. they will air a lot of the bad behavior, and then just ignore it come Tell All time (at least in what gets through editing for us audience members to see).

It pisses me off when men use “if genders were reversed” to disregard womens common SA experiences when stupid desperate American woman pressures a man for sex as it’s in any way the same shit.

Kat, I've been introduced to a lot of terrible reality shows through twitch streams, but you elevate react content to a fine art. I appreciate the goofy background music that makes me feel like I'm really watching reality TV, and the perfect summaries of all these deranged storylines so I don't actually have to watch the show at all. Your review of the 50 Shades movie is still one of my favourite videos on this site. Have you seen I Wanna Marry Harry?

Thank you for the video, it's fun to watch 💚 even though i feel very weird about this show and most of this channel's shows, because when i read the titles and the descriptions, it feels like their goal is to find the most 'different' people as possible, the ones that their audience of white american housewives would consider 'weird', fetishize these people, present them specifically as weirdos for the audience's consumption, without caring about nuance or trying to show them as complex people. This is what so icky to about this whole concept - the show doesn't seem interested in couples that would work, the whole premise is to have as much drama as possible and making fun of these people.
