Favorites: Sad Wings of Destiny, Stained Class, Hell Bent for Leather, Screaming for Vengeance , Defenders of the Faith and Painkiller. You are 100% right that early Judas Priest is very underrated. It is more experimental, moody, thought provoking and deep while the 80's era is more aggressive and badass but also a bit more by the numbers. (I don't mean that in a bad way) Anyway, great video!

Yes it is, but to most people who weren't already familiar with the song it's unfortunately often overlooked because of the absolute garbage of Don't Go following Heading Out to the Highway most people would probably just skip listening to the rest of the album. Hot Rockin isn't too bad, unless you were introduced to the track by the music video. Solar Angels is not bad if you like a Metal Gods light type song. I also like Turning Circles, aside for the introduction which sounds like someone tuning a guitar. It was my introduction to Judas Priest , and I didn't think that they were a very Heavy band upon hearing the album. I bought British Steel and Rocka Rolla soon afterwards. Rocka Rolla was very old sounding. Songs like Rapid Fire and Metal Gods seemed like the Heaviest Metal on Earth compared to anything else that heard from Judas Priest early on. It was so unexpected that the same band that did those 2 albums would Rock that hard. I kind of think that Point of Entry to British Steel as similar to how Turbo was to Defenders of the Faith in Heaviness

Funny enough that Rocknrolla and sad wings of destiny were my actual introductions to the band. I get why Rocknrolla is generally ignored, but I like it’s hard rock style, winter is my favorite riff, although I had to edit so it works with cheater. Like I said I get why people don’t like it, but I feel it isn’t as bad as people make it out to be.

Run of the Mill, Winter/Cheater, Dying to Meet you and the title track are all killer. I don't know how the hell he says Halford didn't hit high notes or they didn't have the signature priest sound and dual guitar quality on this album. It's almost like he just didn't listen to it.

I listened to Priest a lot when I was first getting into metal but they never really hit me as hard or meant as much to me as the bands that really made me fall in love with the genre like Maiden, Megadeth, Sabbath and Dio. I've always felt like I could get everything I wanted from Priest from just three albums, Unleashed in the East, British Steel and Painkiller, and never felt compelled to listen to their whole discography. Based on this video, I will definitely check out Defenders of the Faith, Turbo and Firepower though! Great job as always \m/.

While I'll agree that "Ram it Down" isn't the most memorable Priest album, I'll argue that there are some great bangers on it. The title track has Rob's intro scream that'll scare the crap outta anyone not expecting it. Then "Heavy Metal". while not the best is a solid enough rocker. "Come and Get It" is another of the same, just a solid if not an unimaginative rocker. Of course "Blood Red Skies" is a helluva banger, no one can deny that. I'll argue that, while not a great track and somewhat forgettable, the "Johnny B. Goode" cover has some excellent Halford vocals on it. I dare you not to at least try to sing along to it while you hate the rest of the track lol. And last but NOT least we come to MY favorite track on the album and one of my favorite of oh so many Priest tracks: "Hard as Iron". I mean, come on? Tell me when you play this song loud, through a decent system you aren't just banging that head (that doesn't bang)? That track, while it's one of the more identifiable tracks that used a drum machine due to Dave Holland simply not being able to physically play this fast and consistently. I read that he played the tom and snare fills and transitions, as well as cymbal accents. He also came in more when the song slows down briefly after the solo section. It's a master class of blending human performance with a machine's precision to get the perfect percussion track. And I mean, come on the solo section??? Did you NOT hear those guitar leads????! The album may not be all that great but don't overlook good songs and "Hard as Iron" and the others I named (except the cover, save for Halford's performance on it) are terrific if not dated Priest tracks. And let me tell you, if the band actually decided to play "Hard as Iron" live as Scott Travis could do it with some reworking, tell me you would not pump your fist and bang that head (that would be banging)!???

Interesting takes on the 70s stuff. It's by far my favourite of the band, or at least, the trilogy from Sad Wings to Stained Class,w ith, in my opinion, Stained Class being the pinnacle of everything for this band. Sad to see a lack of enthusiasm for this album from you but, on the otehr hand, nice to see some love for the perhaps somewhat underappreciated Sin after Sin. I like Rocka Rolla for what it is, but it's true they were riding their influences pretty hard on that one. Still, there's enough of them to keep it pretty interesting, for me, with 'Run of the Mill" even showing a heavy Floyd influence that I don't think I hear in anything else from the band. "Dying to meet You" is underrated if you ask me and "Cheater" has a pretty killer stomp to it and some surprisingly violent lyrics. It's not in the greats but for me it's a fine 70s rock record.

Of course I've got some disagreements with you early on(your up to Point while i start this), but that's what it's all about. We don't have to love the same things equally. Point of reference, I'm 50, really discovered them when I hear 'another thing comin' on the radio(and then realized I'd heard a couple British steel tunes before). Ok, here goes(the top 5-6 have a lotta differences, and therefor can change based on my cravings at the time). I kind of separate it into 3 groups, cuz I think the bottom five are clearly, easily the worst. 18. Demolition 17. Rock a rolla 16. Nostradamus 15. Point of Entry 14. Ram it Down 13. Angel of Retribution 12. Jugulator 11. Turbo 10. Redeemer of Souls 9. Hell Bent for Leather 8. Firepower 7. Sin After 6. Screaming for Vengeance 5. Sad Wings 4. Stained Class 3. Painkiller 2. British Steel 1. Defenders of the Faith I thought Ripper was better than you, but the records were bunk. The writing(and lyrics, c'mon Glen) was the issue. Now, I fukkin luv Burn in Hell and Jugulator, but I don't like too many others. Ripper was so much better than Blaze in Maiden though.

Where we differ slightly is Ram It Down. The title track, Blood Red Skies and Hard As Iron are imho decent tracks. But nonetheless it pales in comparison to Turbo and Painkiller, of course. I know people have different opinions and I respect that, but any priest fan can't say there are no good songs off Ram it Down especially when their favorite album is Painkiller. Ram it Down and Hard as Iron alone have ballsy riffs, powerful choruses, and honestly the best solos glenn and kk have ever played. I get disliking the rest of the songs off that album, but I really can't see any priest fan disregarding those songs which are just as badass as songs from Painkiller.

I would like to argue that "Hard as Iron" is a massively heavy, high tempoed masterpiece with a killer guitar solo by KK and Tipton. This track is one of the few that keeps me returning to the album. And before it's brought up: yes, I know that on this track especially, a drum machine was employed for the faster parts, and Dave Holland does fills, cymbal hits and accents, and when the track slows down after the solo section. It's actually a masterwork of editing human performance with a machine to get the desired effect. Dave couldn't perform at this level so he did the parts of the track that needed the human touch that machines, at that time, just couldn't do. The song is a banger, hands down. And lets not forget Rob's vocal performance is out of this world on it.

I just finished up my dive into Judas Priest's discography today and my thoughts are as follows: - Rocka Rolla is for sure a weak beginning to their discography but after that the rest of their 70's stuff is really good with Sad Wings of Destiny and Stained Class being some great albums from that era, they're also some of my favourites in their discography. - Their 80's work has some fantastic classics in the form of British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of Faith, but the rest of the albums they made in that timeframe do absolutely nothing for me and are really underwhelming. - Painkiller is by far their best album in my opinion, it's damn near flawless and it's one of the most badass and fun Heavy Metal albums I've ever heard, love the fuck out of that album and the title track is legit one of the greatest Metal songs of all time (it's the first Judas Priest song I ever waaaaaaaay before I got to check out their discog so that's also a factor to why I love that song so much, it kills and so does Death's cover of it). - The era that had Ripper Owens is awful, I fucking hate those albums, they are some of the most boring, derivative and embarrassing records in Priest's discography and while Ripper isn't a bad vocalist he is just so goddamn derivative and boring that it hurts. - The rest of their discography is hit-or-miss, the only true highlight past that point was Firepower which is really good, outside of that Redeemer of Souls and Angel of Retribution are solid but not that great and Nostradamus is a slog to get through.

I'm doing a discography dive for Priest and I just finished Angel of Retribution (which I wasn't super fond of) and that means the next album for me is...Nostradamus. I must say I'm not looking forward to this album AT ALL. In fact, I think I might just want to skip this album entirely, as I can't imagine myself enjoying it in the slightest. Given what you said in your review for the album, the album appears to be much more Dream Theater, and much less Judas Priest. The way I see it, if I didn't like Images and Words (the album that's often considered to be Dream Theater's magnum opus), then what chance do I have at enjoying Nostradamus? So yeah, I think I'll just skip that record. I can't imagine it being anything else other than a waste of time.

Redeemer of Souls 11. Sad Wings of Destiny 12. Sin After Sin 13. Jugulator 14. Demolition 15. Ram it Down 16. Point of Entry 17. Rocka Rolla 18. Turbo 19. Nostradamus

Priest is a Great Band band for sure but they are pretty inconsistent as well. Rocka Rolla (it’s ok, I do like some of the hard Rock feel of this album but the production is not that good, songwriting is not there yet, 6.5/10) 2 Sad Wings of Destiny (This is a overrated album, many have said this is their best, but it’s middle of the Road of this era of the band, I would be fine giving this a 9/10 since it does have some of their most iconic songs but it’s just not my favorite by them.) 3. Sin after Sin (THIS is a great album though, I love how Prog rock inspired this album feels at times. Does remind me of Deep Purple, Sabbath and Rush. This is a little more consistent 9.6/10) 4. Stained Class (The masterpiece of the early era, One of my favorite heavy metal albums of all time, There are truly no bad songs here 10/10) 5. Killing Machine (Truly love every song on this album as well, I feel like this is their most underrated album from this era, another masterpiece 10/10) 6. British Steel (One of the most overrated albums ever. This is nowhere near Priest’s best It’s good but near the bottom of my rankings of Priest. It’s got some overplayed classics that are fun but there are some STINKERS *cough *cough United 7/10) 7. Point of Entry (It’s better......... but still nowhere near their best 7.3/10) 8. Screaming for Vengeance (Amazing, Hellion/Electric Eye might be the greatest priest song ever, I love you got another thing Coming, the title track. 10/10) 9. Defenders of the Faith (The most disappointing Priest album ever There are great tracks like the Sentinel etc, but also Horrible tracks like Eat me Alive, Love Bites. 7/10) 10. Turbo (I hate glam metal with a passion so I am a bit biased here, but the title track and a few other songs are amazing but the rest I don’t like it’s ok. It’s probably my favorite glam album 5/10) 11. Ram it Down (A great Heavy Metal album, sounds like a huge return to form for me. I love every track except for that GODAWFUL Chuck Berry Cover, if that cover was not on the record I would say this is a flawless album. 9.5/10) 12. Painkiller (One of my top 5 Metal albums of all time. Beyond a Masterpiece might be one of my top 10 favorite albums from ANY GENRE) 13. Jugulator (One of the most under appreciated Priest albums. I really do like Ripper Owens a lot. This album is pretty consistent. Not any amazing songs though in my opinion. 9.3/10) 14. Demolition (BURN IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!0.5/10) 15. Angel of Retribution (Felt again like a True return to Form. Halford sounds great. Lochness is a top 5 priest song to me. Production is decent. Some eh songs here and there but fantastic record 9/10) 16. Nostradamus (WTF was Priest thinking here? This was the Asstonishing before DT did the ASStonishing, WAY TO LONG, The story is uninteresting, It’s BORRRIIINGGGG. I can’t remember a Single song off this thing. 2.5/10 awful) 17. Redeemer of Souls (Priest Redeemed themselves here, this is such a HUGE step up. Getting rid of KK Downing must have been the right move. The songs are catchy some great solos Richie Faulkner was a great addition 8.5/10) 18. Firepower (Their best since Painkiller, one of my top 10 favorite heavy metal albums of the 2010s. The band lives up to their album name. This feels like Painkiller pt 2. 10/10 I love it so much)

I think Painkiller is their only great album. Then Screaming for Vengeance is good..the rest of them either have a couple good songs each or are just not very good in my opinion. I can make a great 15-20 song playlist out of the rest of their 18 album catalog or 16 excluding those 2.

Well, my fav album by Priest is “Firepower”. Not one song I’d cut off of it, a fucking masterpiece! British Steel on the other hand, the most overrated album in metal history, so basic and meat-and-potatoes as can be compared to the albums both before and after it. Yes, I prefer Point Of Entry over it, because it to me is more fun with better hooks.

Rocka Rolla is like what you described it as: a middle of the road, bland, and to me, a tiresome record to get through. The tracks aren't horrible, but they're not that great either (4.5/10).With that though, I would say if I had to choose a favorite era of the band, it would have to be the 70s. The three records after Rocka Rolla are all just really great. They're all 9/10s. Hell Bent for Leather could have been as good as them if they left off Evil Fantasies and Take on the World (7.5/10 to maybe a light 8/10). British Steel is an overrated record. I really cannot see how anyone would call this one of the greatest metal records of all time. There's probably as many as good, solid tracks as there are middle of the road songs on the record (6.5/10). Point of Entry is just a boring album; there isn't much to say about it (4/10). Screaming for Vengeance is a weird record for me because I remember when I heard Electric Eye, I thought it was going to be an amazing record. Then I heard the rest of the album, and I didn't like it. After more listens, it did start to grow on me, and now while I do like it, it's another overrated record to me. Fever and Pain and Pleasure aren't songs that belong on a record considered to be a masterpiece within the genre; You've Got Another Thing Coming is also one of the most overrated metal songs of all time (7/10). Defenders of the Faith is easily their best record in the 80s. It could have been perfect if they left off Heavy Duty and Defenders of Faith though (9/10). I don't feel as positively of Turbo as you do. A lot of songs with cheesy melodies that don't appeal to me. Even with a song like Locked In which is one of the better songs of the record, has that terrible line with an even worse melody, "You've got the key, the key to my heart"(4/10). Ram it Down is just a mixed bag overall to me with Blood Red Skies being one of the most overrated Judas Priest songs. I heard many give high praise to that song, but once I heard it, it was just a big disappointment. I was expecting so much more from it (5/10). Here though, Priest completely bounced back with Painkiller. It's just an amazing record start to finish with one of the greatest opening tracks and title tracks of all time. It's also a special record for me because I had only heard Screaming for Vengeance and British Steel, and I kind of wrote them off to be overrated as a whole with their music, but once I heard Painkiller, I really saw what Priest were capable of (10/10).I can't say anything about Jugulator because I haven't heard it yet. Demolition though is just an awful record. I hate the downtuned riffs, I hate the industrial like solos, and it probably has the absolute worst Judas Priest song with Metal Messiah. To add even more, the record is just bloated. Each song just felt too long by the 2 to 3 minute mark (1/10). Kind of disappointing to say, but unlike Iron Maiden with Brave New World, Angel of Retribution didn't really feel like a return to form or even that much of a comeback record. It should have felt much bigger since Rob was back, but the music doesn't reflect that. It's a fine record, but nothing too special (5.5/10). I was going to listen to Nostradamus, but after the first couple of tracks, I really didn't have the desire to sit through more than an hour and a half of it. From what I remember of those tracks is that they had some good parts, but overall, not the greatest thing ever. Redeemer of Souls is a nice record. I like it, but I think it would have benefited if they cut the track listing down (6/10). Firepower is definitely their best record in a long time. Great production, riffs, and energy. There are songs that aren't as great as the others, say for instance, Lone Wolf, but no bad tracks are found on the record (7.5/10). Thanks for the video.

Angel of Retribution really disappointed me. There's a song on there that rips off one of the shittier songs on.....RELOAD. Are you kidding me. JP wasn't really back, in the studio, until Redeemer, which is every bit as good as Firepower minus a radio hit or two. KK must have just been done. And I absolutely hate how he's conducted himself.
