Correction: The Force Awakens and Baby Driver were nominated for both sound and editing

I’m curious…I noticed there was no mentions of Rebecca Hall (“Resurrection”) or Aubrey Plaza (“Emily the Criminal”) and I know you’ve both discussed their performances being really strong (especially, Hall). I realize these are “genre” films and not “prestige” films, but I’m wondering based on performances alone if they rank anywhere for either of you or are they pretty far off the grid.

I want to put an idea out here for people who think EEAAO is only an original screenplay winner and not a best picture winner, like Her or Get Out. Everyone is overlooking the fact that James Cameron spent 12 years working on Avatar: The Way of Water. That level of dedication I think makes him a far bigger threat than people realize. When both Titanic and Avatar were in production, everyone thought they didn't have a shot at anything and when they came out all dissent was silenced. Tar is also a far bigger threat than people think. Todd Field is an Oscar regular and his return to cinema after 16 years will benefit the allure of the film and wanting to nominate it. I don't think The Fablemans is as much of a lock as people realize. This is only the fourth film Spielberg has both written and directed and of the other three (Sugarland Express, Close Encounters, and AI) only one has done well at the Oscars.
