Finally working on my own bow, Mostly getting into it after I did an archery class in college, tho we didnt have any professional gear, we had some bare naked untuned recurves. No ad ons, no nocking points, 50 meters. Was hard but really fun, probably gonna do a minimalistic build on my bow as well as it was enjoyable

Question about bare shafts 20:26 and 20:45 and 20:59 Why there is no "tape" on place where fletches should be to compensate weight of feathers? I mean FOC (front of center) will be different for your bare shaft in compare with your fletched arrow. E.g. fletched arrow has 10% FOC, and same bare shaft, without feathers "compensator weight" will have (assume) ~ 12% FOC. I just wonder, because in Ukraine EVERY archer has tape on bare shaft for compensating weight(keep same FOC), but when I'm looking on some USA/other archers they use "naked" bare shafts some times. What is the trick?

It’s not worth the time, it doesn’t make that much of a difference. My “final” best tune I don’t use bareshafts at all. I only look at grouping and make adjustments.

Hi Jake, when you ask us to comment on your form, it feels a little weird to me, with the level of my experience, commenting on the form of someone with the level of your experience, but if you feel that it would not be impertinent, will do! I thoroughly enjoy your videos, I think the best that can be said about them is that they take away the fear of trying something different, and impart knowledge in away that is simple and clear! Personally, I would not think of that sculpturally beautiful, sporting weapon as something for beginners to use, and putting 20 lbs limbs on her would be like putting the wheels of a beaten up old VW Beetle on a Ferrari Spyder!!! I know that limbs may come and limbs may go, but risers last forever, but really! There are limits! I personally think it a it of a let down that this top of the line Hoyt does Not come as standard with a wooden grip? I should think that in tribute to another great American shooting weapon, the grip should be made of curly maple? But that's just me! BTW, I am thoroughly enjoying your books, keep doing your video sessions, they are important to the Archery Community, and now I will stop brmding your ear!

Why don't you change BH for micro tuning? I find that when my arrows are slightly weak or stiff, changing BH by +- 1/8" can make the difference.
@46luskbrady3 жыл бұрын
BH changes other parameters like nock height
@michaelhenschel43563 жыл бұрын
@@46luskbrady BH effects pre-load. Assuming that BH is set within the right range to achieve correct pre-load of the limbs, on the "micro-tune" level BH will interact with nock separation. You can tune an arrow to a given bow setup (limb poundage, BH, etc), but if you have an arrow, which you don't want to change (like Jake has), BH will have an influence on the tune. Ideally, you want the nock separate from the string when the arrow has just completed its first oscillation and is straight at that particular moment. The arrow oscillation frequency is primarily determined by the spine and point weight, the time the arrow needs from release to nock seperation is determined primarily by bow weight (energy stored in the limbs) and the location of nock separation can be adjusted within a small range by the BH. It's pretty complex.
@46luskbrady3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelhenschel4356 you asked why he did it. I answered based on what he says in other videos. Weather he is right or wrong I do not know. What I do know is that he won 2 silver medals at the Olympics. That will do for me
