The issue about it not wearing as well as some people hope isn’t the bag’s fault. Leather is always going to wear, and the price is representative of the power of marketing, not any mystical super power of leather. It’s the same with Chanel, you aren’t paying for an indestructible bag, you are paying for a logo.

Leather does wear ... but good bags don't wear that quickly. I've been carrying and mistreating (as in over filling it, plopping it on the ground) my black leather handbag for over 10 years now and there's no wear on it at all. I'd expect more from a quality bag.

Ah Sweet nostalgia. Your original birkin video is how I discovered your channel and subscribed immediately! I have 2 Birkins 30 (black epsom and gold togo) both with gold HW. I love the size 30. I am seriously contemplating asking my SA for a size 25 but am concerned about the small handles. Every bag has its pros and cons. I will definitely do a video about wear and tear after a few years. This was a very helpful video!

For how much you said you used it, I think it seemed to wear well however I just don't think any bag is worth that price. I've never gotten the hype but they really are an investment. I think the biggest problem with the Birkin bag is that it is actually a very casual and unspecial bag - unless you know that it is an expensive item - that it does not really suit its purpose. It is a very expensive basic bag. But you can’t really use it in places where you would be able to wear a really nice bag. Like you could a Chanel flap. But as the Birkin is such an expensive bag and a statement (if you know the bag) you couldnt wear it casually to work unless you work in fashion like you do. If I had a Birkin I would have nowhere to use it.

I've seen a lot of people move on from the 35's and 30's, but honestly the pendulum will swing back and bigger bags will make a comeback! I also think the wear was pretty reasonable? The charm of leather, even of the highest quality, for me is the wear signs that show your history with it.

I've had Birkin 30's and Kelly's 28 & 32 and to be honest....NEVER used them much. I spent A LOT of money but I do not believe either is very user "friendly". I started buying back in 2001 and probably wouldn't waste my money on them again. I think they are WAY over-rated. That is when they cost around the $4000 mark....now at $12-$14000 mark, nah....OVER RATED! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! There are must better alternative Designer bags out there that you can use daily. Just my 2 cents

Just send it for a hermes spa, I sent mine they did all the corners & replaced the metal on the sangles it looks like a brand new bag. I don’t use my b25 apart from going out!!! As the handles are so short you can’t carry it on the crook of your arm

@@tiachan59 I depends what needs doing to the bag, I paid around £300 and they touched up all the corners and put new metal plates on the sangles. If you take it in, they price it all up before hand for you as someone will assess it in store. Hope this helps

I always feel like the Birkins don’t have enough shape, it’s like it’s closing in on itself. Shame you don’t use yours much, but at least it will hold its value and be a great heirloom for Luca.

Keep in mind... most people, myself included, cannot carry a 25 in the crook of the arm due to the extremely small handle drop. It's a hand carry only bag. I would say the Birkin 30 is the ideal size.

I have the birkin 35 in Togo leather in gold hardware. As a 6’1 man, i am very comfortable with the size and weight, I’m just trying to build the confidence to wear it more.

That’s why the kind of leather you choose is going to be very important on how you want your bag to wear. You chose Togo leather and it famously becomes slouch with time. you could have choose another kind of leather or another kind of stitching. if you take leather and retourne stitching of course it’s gonna slouch. you should have take another kind of leather with the Selye stitching

After owning my Birkin 40 cm in Togo leather for 10 years - purchased it when it was 4 years old.....I still love that bag!!!! It is my "in case of fire" handbag, not so much for my Kelly. :( I agree with Mel....Birkin Girl for Life! :D My bag has similar corner wear/smoothing of the leather. I'm looking at buying another Birkin, but I will only get the 40 cm....the smaller sizes seems impractical, for the price tag. I would change from Togo leather to Clemence, which is what my Kelly is in. It seems to hold its shape better.

I love my vintage Kelly 28 but I have to say I hardly reach for it because it’s super annoying to get in and out of, and you risk damaging the flap if you don’t close it before pulling on the handle or strap. I love the look of the birkin 25 but I wonder if not having a strap would be tough and limiting also, as when you’re in a place where you wouldn’t want to put your bag down but can’t really pull it up your arm at all because the handles are so tiny.

Lucky that you got it when they still did the waitlists! These days Hermès has upped their game so now you have to do “forced purchases” (when you purchase the bag) on top of having an extensive purchase history of products other than the BKC trinity. You would have to spend min. 25K US to even get the chance to be offered one of the BKC’s.

Go with color on your next Birkin. No one does color like Hermes. I have a B30 and just added a bright yellow K35 and carry it all the time. I’m not a color girl but something about the way they do theirs makes them feel almost like a neutral.

Have an 35 cm kelly in boxcalf. It is 34 years old, '86. Weight is ok. Is half as wide as the Birkin and way easier to get in and out of.

Hi Melissa! Yes the Birkin is beautiful but the corner wear and scratches on hardware are unacceptable. For the price, I don’t care if it was bought 30 years ago, I expect a Birkin to be a lifetime bag in pristine condition quality!. I bought one of my LV speedys 8 years ago and I put that bag through the wringer but it still looks great with just a light honey patina, no cracks in canvas and piping in tact. So a Birkin should last forever imo! My Dior is from 2005 and it doesn’t have scratches in the hardware and really looks brand new. Idk... Hermès is the dream but I don’t think I will ever spend that kind of money on just one bag and I LOVE luxury bags. I would rather buy 3-5 bags from Dior, Saint Laurent, Fendi or Gucci! But even with all that said, the classic beauty of a Birkin cannot be denied!!!! 😜

I have the exact same Birkin. I have really abused this bag from the day I got it (7 years ago) I have some faint corner wear and some at the handles, and a little rubbing on the glazing on-top of the back flap. The thing (except from the weight)I don't like is how the shape of the corners get almost disfigured. I would also go down to a 30 or 25 if I was to get another one. But in the future I will def go for a Kelly in Sellier stitching and maybe epsom leather.

Regardless of price: leather is leather. Corners are going to scuff. They’re not invincible. The weight of the bag pills the corners over the feet which makes the feet less effective. I think people have unrealistic expectations of luxury bags just because they cost a lot. At the end of the day it’s a leather bag!

Just sell the bag if ur not using it often. And get a smaller Birkin. Coz if its just sitting in ur closet for a long period of time, it will get molds and it will smell and lose it's value. You'll regret keeping the bag later on and will smack ur head for not selling it sooner. I know its ur first birkin but you had fun times with it, memories and pictures with it. Sometimes you have to let go of things you loved, to make room for greater things.

Worth the price or not is totally subjective. I feel the B and K are in a class of their own. The designs imo are classic and timeless. The craftsmanship is unsurpassed and the leathers are sumptuous (omg the yummy smell😊) Ridiculously priced but worth it. That’s why they’re LUXURY handbags.

Julie C clearly the craftsmanship is not “unsurpassed” and the leather are not “sumptuous” enough since, as seen in the video, the edges of her bag show way too much sign of wear, especially for the time that she has used it and for the price of the bag. I’ve had my Chanel tote since 2005, which I used probably everyday for work for almost 5 years and it’s nowhere near as “worn” as hers. Chanel bags are LUXURY bags, already too expensive at times. It’s a handbag, it’s not worth $20000+ no matter what. It’s all about name and brand.
