The New York Rangers cannot expect to make the Stanley Cup Finals when their top three players don’t show up. Mika Zibanejad needs to be moved. He’s not great at face offs. Extremely streaky. His sloppiness cost the Rangers game 4 which turned out to be a momentum changer. Panarin shaved his head; vowing to shoot more. The invisible Cosmonaut disappeared! I thought Kreider was going to hulk out after his series ending hat trick. Alas he reverted to Bruce Banner. The Mika/Kreider line was never the same after Buchnevich left. Yeah, unfortunately we don't see the stand-up goaltending style nowadays, because sometimes, I really think that should be the way to stop high pucks. Most goalies in the NHL nowadays can be beaten by high pucks. It's almost as if even the hybrid style doesn't exist anymore too, switching back and forth between stand-up and butterfly. Every goalie drops to the ice when the puck is shot...
@legndery19095 ай бұрын
Butterfly is just more constistent and allows for more movement if the puck goes the other way. It would take a truly generational goalie like Hasek to actually pull off these moves consistently.

@@choppergunner8650 It's just math, standing goalies cover a smaller portion of the net, and shooting in the top shelf consistently from full speed is difficult, so they'll prevent more goals just by dropping to their knees and hoping for the best. At times in this game it seemed like there were 10 Panthers on the ice. Every time there was a loose puck anywhere on the ice, there might be 1 Ranger near it, but there always seemed to be like 3 Panthers pouncing on it. Panths are going to be very tough to beat in the finals.

I think the "Presidents' Trophy curse" should only apply to teams that get knocked out before the conference finals. Especially if the team wins at least 2 games in said conference finals.

In my opinion the pain is always worse when your team goes further in the playoffs because the hopes get higher.
@NothingToPointOut245 ай бұрын
I said it last year, I'll say it again now and I'll prob say it next year. But Igor deserves better. Rangers have gotten 20 years of Hall of Fame quality goaltending and have nothing to show for it. I know hockey players arent like this, and I'm glad for that, but if I was Igor I would have a hard time not requesting a trade out of NY. This Rangers core is a team built for the regular season. Not for the playoffs. And the only reason they even got as far as they did is because their goalie kept them in games that they had no business being in.
@dmonsef5 ай бұрын
The Rangers haven't learned yet. The same exact thing as you pointed it out, happened to Lundqvist. Rangers goalies absolutely stands on their head only for the team to not be good enough to support their goalie. 7-0 start to the playoffs, and then they slowly fizzled going 3-6!
@frogger19525 ай бұрын

@poejavelski1485 ай бұрын
What is funny is that this narrative has been going on for many years now, yet before the 2022 Avs (then the Knights did it in 2023) the 2004 Lightning were the only team since the presidents trophy was introduced in 1986 to win the Stanley Cup as the first place team in the opposite conference of the Presidents trophy winner. On the other hand, the 87 Oilers, 89 Flames, 94 Rangers, 99 Stars, 01 Avs, 02 and 08 Wings, and 13 Blackhawks all won cups with the presidents trophy. Why was no one talking about the “1st place but not the presidents trophy” curse 🤔
