When ya gonna talk about their Majority Standard Bible they’re working on? We need to encourage Bible Hub to make it into a print version once it’s done.

From their website: “The MSB is the Byzantine Majority Text version of the BSB, including the BSB OT plus the NT translated according to the Robinson-Pierpont Byzantine Majority Text.” I need this, in print form, in my life.

One aspect I love about the BSB, as a Critical Text Bible (I'm a majority advocate), is the extent of the footnotes. It tells you not only when there is a variant, but from which manuscript it comes from. Even going as far as showing variations from the Dead Sea scrolls. I think it's a good add on for the Majority Text advocates Bible study.

I was actually surprised to see footnotes with ECM readings.

@@Dwayne_Green I would say it is the best use of footnotes since the NKJV (my favorite).

I agree...I am extremely excited for the Majority Standard Bible edition. I really do hope that they decide to do a printed version of it in the same layout as the BSB as I really appreciate that layout. With that layout and a Majority text, that would quickly become a favorite version for me!! Thank you for your review!

I love the Berean Bible -- it seems like Bible Hub combined all the 1984 NIV with some NKJV. IT is a great Bible. I only wish they had more print versions available -- like a wide column.

I purchased a copy of the original printing and found that I really appreciate the large font and the spacing between verses, making it highly readable. It's a hefty tome though. Another aspect I like are the footnotes covering literal translation, alternative translations, and cross references. Thank you for the work you do Pastor Green.

If they did the deuterocanonical books with a published Byzantine Majority Text it would be a dream come true for me. I would still purchase the MT either way as an Orthodox Christian.

The BSB is a great project, but it still feels like an under-edited text. While they made some great changes with regard to concordance in this new slight revision (e.g., a uniform translation of תּוֹרָה as "law" in the OT), there are still strange decisions. I found one last night. Why does the BSB translate σάρξ as "flesh" in every single instance except for Colossians 2:11, 13, where they translate it as "sinful nature"? Personally, I don't have a problem with translating σάρξ as "sinful nature," but I do have a problem with an inconsistent rendering of it.
@TaylorLSexton
@TaylorLSexton 2 жыл бұрын
I think I may have spoken too quickly regarding σάρξ. I just now surveyed every Pauline instance of the term, and I think the BSB team actually did a good job with it. With regard to the two Colossians verses (2:11, 13), I think they render them differently to highlight the exact point Paul is making-namely, the circumcision he speaks of is not in the physical flesh but is indeed a putting off the sinful nature and (later in the epistle) putting on Christ. If they had translated it "flesh" there (which is given in the footnote I missed in Col. 2:11), it might have confused the reader into thinking Paul is talking about physical circumcision. So, I think the choice in Col. 2:11, 13 is justifiable and perhaps even preferable.

I'd be interested in your opinion of the translation. I really like that it's easy to read much like the CSB but is gender accurate.
@Dwayne_Green

I like it too, it's a conservative translation that tends to stick with more traditional phrasing, the also maintain the gender of pronouns rather than using gender neutral terms. So far I like it, just wish their majority text translation would come faster :)

IF the Berean Standard Bible translation is up-dated/revised to a 2nd edition- how could one find what changes were made to the translation? ( I tried to find a way to e-mail Pastor Green's church. But I was not able to find a way to do so- the site would not bring up a webpage OR e-mail address. ( I know the need to be careful- so I am not going to ask for his e-mail address to be mentioned on here. I am just trying to find a way to e-mail a question that is too complex/personal to mention here.))

I love how there’s a lot of white space and space between the lines. I hate when they cram the words together in Bibles. I would much rather have a larger Bible if they would give the text room to breathe.

I bought the Berean study Bible. I’m disappointed because it has Bible verses missing in the New Testament, JESUS’S WORDS. Seems to be the same verses that are missing in the NIV.

I find it interesting any man or body of men would feel themselves authorized to determine how much or in what context the Bible could be shared. If this is the holy Scripture, then the Author Himself, the Holy Spirit, will control its usage.

The Lord said a worker is worth is his wages. And we are not to muzzle the ox. A pastor is paid to preach the word. A publisher/scholar should be paid for their work as well. I don't the individual publisher is against getting God's word out to the church. They just want to make sure someone else is claiming their work as their own nor profiting off of their labor.

The BSB does seem to strike an interesting balance between readability and accuracy, much like the CSB. Yet it takes a more formal approach by capitalizing pronouns possibly referring to God and by translating "adelphoi" as "brothers" instead of "brothers and sisters" as found in the CSB. In some ways, the BSB seems to combine good aspects of the CSB, NIV84, and the NKJV. There us much to like here. The footnotes are also very nicely done. I do have one area of concern, however: It appears that the BSB may occasionally simply leave out a few words that the translators apparently felt were unnecessary. Note that this is not a majority text vs critical text issue, but it seems to be an effort to improve readability. One of the first few verses that I looked at to compare the BSB to both the Greek and the CSB was 2 Thess 1:3. The second half of this verse is shown here: BSB: ...because your faith is growing more and more, and your love for one another is increasing. CSB: ...since your faith is flourishing and the love each one of you has for one another is increasing. Greek: ...ὅτι ὑπεραυξάνει ἡ πίστις ὑμῶν καὶ πλεονάζει ἡ ἀγάπη ἑνὸς ἑκάστου πάντων _ὑμῶν_ εἰς ἀλλήλους The Greek "ἑκάστου πάντων ὑμῶν " would literally read something like "all of each of you", or more simply "each and every one of you". The original words are referring to the love shown by each individual in the church at Thessalonica, not just the overall efforts of the group. This is not a major theological error, but it still seemed to be a case where a bit of meaning was lost in the translation process. It seems in this instance that the BSB may have overly smoothed out the wording in this verse, and the result is loss of a bit of the original meaning. It appears that they may have been driven by the goal of using fewer words for smoother reading. I have not had time to look for more instances to determine whether this is a pattern or a single occurance. I hope this is not a recurring pattern, and that this verse might be more fully translated in future revisions.
