I own two of these, 5' each with side shades. I love it. BUT what he's doing is using a suction cup. I used the hardware provided and the key with that is that you can have 3 different angles. If you are worried about water run off, you angle it down. It's super easy to do. I used to attach it to my cross bars but now I have a platform rack that I use and it works the same. I think it varies by 15 degrees. I use it at the dog park, in hot parking lots, camping, etc. It's awesome and high quality. I highly recommend it. I do wish they had an annex, not just a side shade, but seriously it's fantastic. I've camped in 30 mph winds and this has stayed up. I'm nervous so I use the kammok poles in those conditions and I stake down the sunshade but no problem. Shocking I know, but it worked more than once in these winds. I've used it all last summer and this summer twice so far and I can only recommend it. Ps - the hardware is so good I ordered extra and used it to attach my joolca single shower suite that had completely useless hardware and worse advice (basically go on fb and ask for help) so I used my spare kammok hardware (I ordered hardware not knowing it came with hardware) - thank you kammok! saved the day! I ordered last year 2023. And I ordered refurbished so $500 ish each and what a deal. It's worth full price but I bought it from them refurbished (demo in store?) and no damage visible and a great deal.

Hey great unbiased review! I have a great solution for the sharp edge of the awning. Car door trim! Should be available at most auto stores. I use it on all of the sharp edges of my propane tank to avoid it causing damage while offroading.

Nice sun protection!😊 For the rain evacuation I have an idea. Buy a 3/8” diameter natural fibre twisted rope that will hang off both front and rear ends right down to the ground. The weight of the rope and surface tension will draw the water to it and then leak along it’s length right down each end without splashing. Oh, almost forgot…put a stretchy sock on the front end of the horizontal structure.

Definitely a must have, they also make weights that look like plates used in a gym with a channel in it to slide over the poles🏋‍♂️

Hi Jay, Scalawag here (from AT Pine Grove Furnace Ice Cream picnic table) I do a fair amount of mods & repairs and a quick thought is to get 4"-5" Velcro strip w/adhesive, or dots (Wally world art aisle) you place on choice of flexible material to wrap the front leading edge; or narrow bungee with slider toggle clamps. There are replacement shoe lace kits (Kiwi brand, for ex.) that might solve in one fell swoop. I've remedied sharp edges with child foam coffee table corner/edge guard padding from baby supply stores. Best regards.

I completely agree with your reasoning that the price is worth it if it makes you want to go outside more. Awnings are worth spending premium on, imo, because they can completely make or break your experience. Getting drenched while you roll up your standard awning and get it into the enclosure and zipped up in bad weather can completely ruin the entire getaway. I also hate constantly stressing about winds bending my awning system. I love that you can just easily pop this thing away when the winds start picking up.

Alligator/paper clip for those loose Velcro ends? But yeah, the manufacturer needs a permanent solution. It’s too bad their pole system doesn’t have a simple threaded bolt at top of pole to spin into a nut at the ends of the horizontal bar. Their rope and toggle thingy and slip knot technique is hokey. They need to weld a loop to base of poles and cam strap from there to stake!! Super appreciate your detailed review! I’ll pull the trigger on this awning when I see them make these improvements!

A threaded tent pole end was my first thought too or some type of clamp. The poles they sell don't seem to have an adequate connection system.

I've had my 5' Crosswing for a year now and I agree, the Crosswing is by far the most useful awning out there because of it's ease of deployment and retraction. I used to have a ARB awning that I never used unless I was sure I was going to be stationary for a long time and that there would absolutely be no wind. I've seen the ARB awning flip over my car before with legs flying everywhere, so that was a good wake up call. Really enjoyed your really in depth review, and although some of the pros and cons were specific to your build and situation, overall, I really appreciated the complete unbiased opinions. If you're wondering why I'm watching reviews a year after purchasing my awning, it's because I dropped mine really hard a week ago and wondering if there was anything better to go with, but I think I'll try to get this one fixed.

You can adjust tention by removing a plastic access piece on one end and adjusting a plastic nut to tighten or loosen tention.. if that helps your issue after dropping

Thanks for the great in-depth review! I have been looking at this awning and waiting for some feedback from users. BTW,, your comment about the rain dripping off the awning made me think... I still carry a tarp which I have used as an awning - infrequently - and maybe that would be a good landing place for the water that runs off the front of the awning.

Yes, there are gaps along the metal on the front edge and at times I was going to hang a tiny reflective tarp I have on it.

Have always liked how that tarp looked & worked. For the velcro ends starting to pull up the way they are, try & see if you can two more of those center clips you fasten to put on the ends to stop the separating & just secures it even more

I mounted mine with cbi low profile quick release brackets to my prinsu rack. I can install/remove in seconds and dont have to worry about it getting stolen. But, it does make the awning lower because the low profile brackets.

What’s the dimensions for ends of the awning? Maybe you can fit a stretchable silicon or rubber endcaps to protect it at highway speeds

This is exactly what I've been wanting and I got one on sale during their sale for a few hundred bucks off. I've yet to mount it because I'm having trouble figuring out how to mount it to my bedrack over the softopper off the BACK. i really want shade at the tailgate area. The 2" steel bars are going the wrong way for the talon mounts. Any ideas without having to install some crossbars front to back?

May first thought was this thing is amazing. My second thought is why haven't I seen this awning on any of the overlanding channels I'm subscribed to, and I'm subscribed to a lot. Then I realized the fabric is exposed to the elements. Overlanders must be completely dismissing this awning because the fabric could easily be damaged by tree branches etc. A hinged metal cover would be an easy upgrade / option. It would protect the velcro ends and possibly quite things up. The way the poles attach to the awning is questionable. With all my concerns, I'm still thinking about buying one. If it was half the price I'd definitely take a chance. BTW great video. I searched a few of your videos and never saw it deployed in actual use while camping. Bummer. I'll keep looking.

I usually mount awnings on the passenger side. Do you think that would reduce how often I might use this (vice mounting on driver's side). I love the ease of use/opening factor.

Their brackets do tilt but it's held in with bolts once you pick which you'd like. It's difficult to adjust it once it's mounted and really only 1 setting worked for me but it works well. Still using it here in Alaska after driving through Canada.

I love my 5ft Kammok Crosswing I use it all the time not just for camping but being it takes like 3 seconds to deploy or put away, who doesn't want shade on the drivers side of their vehicle????

After 75k miles in the van I have yet to "really" want an awning. The IKammok (quick deployment but you need a roof rack) or the Moon (longer to deploy - no need for roof rack) I might consider. M2C - if you want to tilt the awning - Why not put a one inch spacer at only one end between the roof rack & the awning housing... why not just sand the sharp corners??? 5 foot is simply to small for real world use!

Am I the only one that has issues with the cross bars rattling when retracted and driving around the city / any rough roads? Sounds like a damn tambourine. Let me know if anyone has a solution for this issue!

I hear a little rattling as well but only on rough roads. When I close mine I do use the lever to retract it one click to help tighten it up.

This thing is cool, especially for ease of use. But an ovs 180 awning is soooo much better. Its stronger, still takes less than a minute to deploy or put away. Provides more coverage and isn't exposed during non use. Free standing in no to light wind. The 180 also has guideline holes to pull it down wherever you want it to drain. It's also protected when offroad. And is 20 feet wide when deployed ! I've had mine a few years now and I love it. This looks better for travelers/road trippers (which isn't a bad thing) but wheeling/overlanding not so much, unless you're only a trail rider. That velcro corner seems like a really bad design and having the material exposed also seems silly, a branch, cactus or otherwise could tear it.
