I bought an ATM50-A1 for $400, used, its 3 years old, and still runs great, i think the guy that had it before did something to the engine, because I can reach 45mph (measured with my cell phone speedometer), so far had no problems.Its cheap built? Of course it is, but, come on guys, for the price they cost, they are worth every penny.I really enjoy riding it, I use it to drive back and forth from work (12 miles each way), and with the money I have saved on gas in 4 months (I have a V8 JEEP Cherokee ) the scooter paid for itself.Love going to the beach with it.

Don't know about all the bad comments, i have one of these scooter, has been 2 years now, and it runs great, of course you have to take care of it, but nothing that you can't do it yourself. Start with changing engine oil once a month, or every 2 months, use 93 octane gas, replace belt once a year, tight all the screws and bolts, change gas lines, keep carburator clean, and you should be fine. They are actually fun to work on, not many tools needed. I love them, have been riding them since i was 15 (my firs one was a Piaggio "SI" :-)

I have the ATM50_A1 and have had problems from day one. The thing leaves a trail of parts in its wake. Every time I hit a bump, I can hear nuts and bolts falling onto the ground. Also, the cheap plastic body panels are always rattling because all the flimsy body panel clips break too easily. I have had to replace the carburetor, the battery, and a plethora of body panels and lights. I would not recommend Taotao to anyone.

The one you say is a 2010 I have on just like it, according to the vin number on it it's actually a 2012. You can find that in front of where your feet are sitting if you were to be on in. There's a little plate the vin sits behind it

I'm from RI, you should be ok in PA, I Know in CT they don't even need to register them or anything, in RI you need to Register but don't need a motorcycle license under 50cc, whats the problem getting the title? When i went to the Registry they have no idea what the thing is anyway since it's from China they just put it as Scooter all they cared about was it was under 50cc.

How much were they? link? on the newer model they probably didn't gear it down after adding bigger wheels. I also feel like you might be underrating these? 1k miles? squeaky brakes just need to be cleaned, starter motor oneway bearing or something like that may need to be raplaced. What engines do they have? I hear of the GY6 clone being popular and lasting decent if you switch a few things around.

Hi...my grandson has one of these bikes and he ran into a pot hole, how do you remove the rear tire ... the rim is dented and the tire is damaged.

Helen DeMorro Sorry to Hear about the Pot Hole, I sold mine for one with a bit more power, i would recommend taking it some where so they can make sure its ok since it could be dangerous driving at fast speeds if parts are bent.

all you have to have is a license plate that says MDC class a or b and a valid state Id or drivers license if its over 49cc other than that they are good to have I have a 49cc taotao cy50-a VIP future champion

lol, yea i'm 6ft and it was fine for me, all 50cc scooters feel a bit small since they are using less materials to make it weigh, less. I was fine with leg room and it was a nice ride.

Moped is just an hybrid word for "MOtor-PEDal, since the first kind of 50cc scooters had almost all had pedals to start the engine. But its just a word. What it counts is how many Cubic Centimeters (CC) is the engine, usually for an engine below 50cc not special motorcycle license is required, but that's different from state to state, just google it and find out what is needed to drive it in your state.

The CY50-T3 is horrible to ride the seat is like riding on a cinder block it is very uncomfortable also the 12 inch rims will bend easy with those low profile tires I owned one and got rid of it fast I'm 59 and don't run them hard The ATM-50A1 is very comfortable the only other with a better seat is the VIP model By the way they still sell the ATM-50A1 as of 12/4/2020

I have a 2 year old Tao Tao ATM-50 and I'm just going to throw it away. It has 3,800 kilometers on it. I will never buy another piece of junk Tao Tao again. From the day I bought it brand new it was junk, and I bought it from a dealer so I did not assemble it myself. The screw heads on the carb are cut off so you can't rebuild it. One bolt on the valve cover has been epoxied or glued so that it's impossible to remove. The gas tank float fell off in the tank 2 weeks after I bought it and broke up into tiny pieces, ruining my fuel filter and clogging the carb. I had to push it about 2 miles that day. The steering was dangerously loose the day I bought it and every hose was missing a clamp. Both tires were under inflated. I've pushed the piece of junk several miles since I bought it. If you bought one, don't ride it too far from home unless you have AAA towing insurance or you will be pushing it home. If you have to buy Chinese junk, go to The Dollar tree. All in all, it cost more to operate than an SUV. I would not buy another at 1/2 the price. Pura mierda!

good to know, i end up getting a Ruckus style instead because of lack of power, it's a 150 and it's been running pretty good, so i can't speak for how long this will run but i agree the Chinese scooters are no where near the quality of a vespa or something like that.

Jack Mackeral dude, you Need to chill out, learn how to maintain a scooter, you need to use rec90 gas if you don't use it often, any other gas will force you to clean out the carb

these aren't for people who just wanna gas it and go.. theres a number of reasons why they cost 1/3 what name brands do. if your reasonably handy, they're not bad little bikes.. Ive had one for 6 months and have had to replace the carb and the kickstart cover. parts are super cheap and as long as you know what to look for and check things regularly, you'll get your moneys worth. TBH its been more reliable than the ruckus I had for a while. My taotao was only $350 was kicks ass for that! I live in the city and my two bikes before it were stolen so thats another reason I went with a cheapie..

i'm curious about a good source regarding laws for a scooter like this, i want to get something allot like this (actually the ATM50-A1 is what i am looking at) and the dmv site just isn't helping me to know what to classify it as (the dmv site seems to classify it as a moped) and as for registering and tagging it they expect me to be buying it from a dealer or something or from a previous owner with the title transfer and i have no idea how amazon would handle something like that. it is purely my own ignorance (i may be 31, but i have never even had a licence let alone a vehicle). anyone know any good resources?

How it worked where I live in RI is they send the cert of origin with the scooter since its under 50cc u don't need a motorcycle license but I did need to register it and have insurance on it and have a license. In Ct you don't need to register it or get insurance if under 50cc . You could give it dmv a call they can answer ur questions.

It depends how you keep it. I know you said "maintenance free", but you will have to do a few very simple things to make it last long time. First, most important, change the engine oil before you even start it, get 1 qt of the best possible motor oil, its really easy and quick to change it. keep Changing oil every couple of months. Second, tight all the bolts, nuts and screws that you see, just to be safe, third, use the best possible gas (with $3 you fill it up and drive for a week...), and you should be good to go, i really don't see how it would last less then 1 year if you do those 3 simple things. Eventually you may want to change the gas lines and gas filter, super easy and cheap to do, just go to a lawn motor parts store. Actually those engines are very durable, mine has 15,000 kilometers (about 10,000 miles)and still runs great. Ah, and don't leave them sit in the rain...

You would in mass need a drivers license for a car, not a motorcycle license, you might not get pulled over since a cop would need a reason to pull you over and it's really hard to speed on a scooter. I would get it registered and get insurance on it though. And if you get pulled over just say you did not know.

It depend on what state you are in to have a 50cc you need to google the law I would say 16 years old at least in most states, they have gas powered mopeds if you are younger than that.

The all point of 50cc is that no motorcycle license or registration is needed, plus, they are fun to drive around town in the summer, if you like to be outside, you can go virtually anywhere with them, easy to park, and very economic, great for running errands. They are not intended for racing or speeding, beside, they reach 40mph speed, which in most towns and cities is the speed limit, although, if you really want to have a little more power, you could modify it with a 75cc bore kit.
