Obviously not by favorite del Toro movie but I'll always come to bat for it. It is an absolutely beautiful love letter to gothic horror. In one of the opening scenes she says something along the lines of "it's not a ghost story, it's a story with a ghost in it" which is such a perfect way to describe gothic horror. I think the Conjuring generation just wasn't ready for something like that.

I've never thought about Del Torro's love of video games in relation to his movies. I do feel like the Crimson Peak story could make a great survival horror game. Maybe something along the lines of Haunting Ground.

I agree with most of your points, but, I don't think Thomas ever loved Lucille as a lover. I think he was very much told to. The fact that he falls in love on his own and proceeds to try and break from her in the climax is the final breakdown of Crimson Peak itself.

I love crimson peak! The first time I watched it I was like OMG Flowers in the Attic vibes! I think that another reason this movie doesn’t get the love it deserves is that I think people write it off as sort of “ for the girls” that could just be me though. So happy to see it get some love here!

I'm sorry. I love del Toro's horror work. It is legitimately some of the best in the industry bar. None, however, Pacific rim and Hellboy are just so cool. And the shape of water is beautiful. I find it limiting to say his best work is restricted to horror dopan's. Labyrinth obviously is up there. And cronos is a masterpiece.
