I think you ought to talk about Kinds Of Kindness. It was quickly ignored by most people but I still like it a lot. Maybe because it came out so soon after Poor Things, maybe because it isn't so simple to understand? I don't think it's impossible to decipher though, and it's very much about love and humanity, and I think it's worth a closer look.

I educate my daughter at home. One of my pedagogical strategies is to reinforce the theory with the art. Coraline is a wonderful book to read with a 9 year old girl who is just learning about how something like a beldam can exist. A being who will love you. A being whose love is uncompromising. Whose love will hollow you out and feed on you, if you allow it.

I've seen this movie a bunch of times. I think it's public domain. Some of it reminds me of Shadow Over Innsmouth. Some of it reminds me of living in small town california. The only problem with it is it feels like it's missing lots of scenes. The art in the woman's father's house is neat. Reminds me of the old movie theater i went to in the early 80s. I like that the guy with the pick up truck buys "no knock" gas, which i think was leaded back then.

With respect because I do see your angle here, I think you miss the mark slightly. Johnny, the revenant, is meant to be the focal point for our empathy much more than the campers and randoms are. He is a being who craves the only bit of warmth and love he has ever known, and acts aggressively in order to protect that love. The cycles of violence which surround, motivate, and are maintained by Johnny stem from the absence of that love, that calm. My problem with the film personally though, is that there's a very very confused parallel that the narrative draws between feral, animalistic nature, and the actions of the mentally disabled Johnny. I feel a read can be made here of violence begetting violence, the logger's abuse & murder of Johnny is what turned him monstrous, but I feel like it is such an underexplored aspect of the film that it unintentionally pushes the reading of "the mentally disabled are animals" to the fore.

@@IPOSDarksidesyeah dude it is deeply irritating, i understand the desire for horror ambiance in your peaces... but it's... too much, particularly these ones. I unfortunately wont be able to continue watching the video because of it... if you want dark ambient things, Kevin Macleod has some soundscapes that are genuinely really good and chilling and are fully free to use, i use them for narrating horror things on occasion, hiiiighly recommend!

Finally some dark fantasy content. I’ve noticed that dark fantasy has become quite popular on KZbin and TikTok - or at least it was for a while - and wonder what you have to say about this digital resurgence. I get things like ambient music with cool thumbnail art and dark fantasy interpretations of other media popping up in my feed all the time, though I don’t know if you have seen any. The Soulsborne games are probably responsible but it is a shame a fair amount of it is AI.
@IPOSDarksides3 күн бұрын
Love fantasy horror and I think there should be more of it tbh, I started making a video on it like three years ago and never finished it. Might return to that one day but it very much is something that I'm into.

@@IPOSDarksides Have you heard of the Vermis artbooks or Plastiboo's fantasy art in general? I don't know if it's for you as it does lean a lot into the Soulsborne visuals but is more Dark Souls than Bloodborne. To me, I think Vermis is probably the best example of revisiting retro aesthetics to create something new. Also I watched Paperhouse just last night after seeing the patreon upload notification. It was amazing and I genuinely feared Anna was going to fall off that cliff. Keep up the great work!
@adep42703 күн бұрын
@@IPOSDarksides Ever read the book Paperhouse was based on? If I'm recalling right, there was a lot of changes between book and film. And yes Vermis really is a gem.
