I certainly didn't expect to see my old website mentioned on a KZbin video that showed up in my recommendations. Life is weird like that sometimes. Yeah it's less then perfect but I had a great time making Godzilla Tower back in the day. Nice to see that other people still remember it. Thank you for the nostalgia, and may you have a great time with your own endeavors as well!

I grew up with Barry's place. His were the first fan-fictions I had ever read. And as far as fan-fictions go...they are pretty damn awesome. The 2nd one with King Ghidorah really put a different spin on the monster with the whole solar power and metal alien sphere in which it was created in. Use to love listening to the midi files and just loop MechaGodzilla 93's theme. I miss the Monster Archives. My friend (Monster Master), made it, but I lost contact with him and he sort of left the internet. So I do get a bit sad when I think about the site :(

Yes! Barry's Temple of Godzilla! My best friend used to exchange personal emails with the guy who ran that website. He even got import VHS tapes of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla, and Godzilla vs. Destroyah through his contact with this website. Back when no one in the USA knew those movies had even been made in Japan. Good times.

Besides the ones you listed, I fondly remember: Tokyo Monsters, Monster Zero (I remember when the creator, Aaron, passed away, too), Maser City, Rodan’s Roost/Kaijuphile (my favorite of the online forums), Kaiju Galaxy, Godzilla Monster Music, and the like. A video on these would be really cool.

Yes, Monster Zero, which later evolved into Sci-Fi Japan. That site is still up, but the Forums section has been dead since early 2020. :(

Man, this was the internet I grew up with. It was dial-up, everything was independently made, all the video was Quicktime files. Sure, most of it sucked, but I kinda miss the "anything goes" nature of that web; now most sites are so homogeneous.

Also Monster Zero News. The guy who used to run it, Aaron, has long since passed and the site has since morphed into SciFi Japan, but it was the source for Godzilla news back in the day. Their “forum war” with Toho Kingdom was legendary

I remember I used to check the website for the Godzilla 1998 remake daily looking for updates, because I was so excited to finally get to see a new Godzilla movie in the theater with a big hollywood budget. Getting occasional vlogs from the filmmakers was super novel and new at the time. And in the end? Eeeeeehhhhhhhhh... That movie was an amazing bar raiser in marketing. As a movie not so much.

My faves back in the day were "Michael's Godzilla vs. Destoroyah" and "Rodansroost". There was also this incredibly weird Gigan fansite which had an entire cast of Gigan-based characters with names like "Gogar", "Galina" and "Gaigany".

I forget the name of the site, unfoturnately..but one thing I DO remember about it was what happened after you've entered it. First, you hear an iconic piece of music from the film franchise and then, you see two animated images of Godzilla appear; the second one had a sort of brief animation of G Man breathing his famous atomic breath. Then, you hear the roar playing until you're finally brought into the main page. I used to visit this site all the time, back in the 90's but...I'm not sure if it's online anymore. I think it was called the Godzilla Shrine

I remember finding Barry’s Temple of Godzilla on the first day we got dial up internet back in ‘98 and just browsing through it on Netscape lol. There was another one that I really liked, Godzilla’s Domain I think it was called, run by a guy called Ramsin. Weird but cool fanart/fics
@warrenjehosephat2313 жыл бұрын
I joined the Monster Zero forums for all of ten minutes then getting so annoyed when they had an automatic censor function that turned "ass" into "***" that I just gave up on it immediately. Hah. I remember there was a bootleg site I liked a lot because the American releases were so spotty- at the time, it was the only way to get ahold of Godzilla 1985, G vs Biollante, the original cut (or as close to it as they can get) of King Kong vs Godzilla, the original Mothra, and widescreen copies of Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and G vs. Space Godzilla. They also had the Godzilla Fantasia releases, which was nice.
