So many stories to tell about boyhood and knives but I obtained my first genuine knife through boyhood brainpower. As a cub scout my parents hesitated to buy me the CSA knife as they said "...not till I need one." So for my Bear project (this was in the mid 1950s) I designed a wooden rocket ship model BUT I needed the blade to carve, the punch to create holes to attach the fins and other accoutrements, and of course the caplifter screw driver to screw in the attachments. Once I showed my parents the sketch and why I needed it to be done by my hands they agreed and I got my Cub Scout knife. 😀

Great idea to create a "need" for a knife. I wonder if that same strategy will work with Mrs. KD? lol Thanks for watching, my friend.

I have an Old Timer that my Dad found when we went to Alaska in 1984. We drove up as close to the Aortic circle as we could get. Those knives cleaned up nicely and the sheath came out well. Thanks for sharing and God bless.

I'd say what memory comes to mind is our family would go to Lake Pierce in FL for vacation & there was a big wooden dock. On the dock was carved hundreds of names. I was about 10 years old & my Papa, grandfather, gave me his pocket knife to carve my name into to the dock. He told me not to cut myself & I was on my way! Well about half way through... I snapped the main blade in half! Oh my stomach just turned! I was so afraid he was going to get mad, but he didn't. Asked if I finished my carving & said, "no sir". He gave it back & said to go finish it. I'm sure he bought a new knife that next week. Best I remember, it was an Uncle Henry, large stockman I think. You're correct about the lawn care videos. I enjoy watching you clean & care for these knives. I enjoy your stories & your sense of humor! A+ my friend! Thanks for sharing! 😺⚔️👍🏻

Tom to me you're the Bob Ross of knife videos. You have such a calming voice and manor about you and I had rather watch a video of a knife cleaning or restoration than a review! If you ever have a tang stamp or a place that has rust but is hard to get to, try a lead pencil. It will rub away the rust. Also if you ever run short on polishing pads, you can use a felt pad that you stick on the bottom of chairs. The adhesive will pull right off of it!

Thanks for your kind words, and for the tip about using a pencil and the felt pads. I appreciate you stopping by, Jerry.

I'll be 29 this year and my first pocket knife I got as a child was a buck 310 when i was 8 years old. I still have that knife but never use it anymore, don't want to loose it , but when i pull it out of the safe from time to time it sure does bring back memories. I carved many of sticks with that knife as a kid.

Great Video Tom. I give ya a passing grade A on little Brother’s knife 😉 The nostalgic connection to our first knives as a youngster and things we enjoyed decades ago seems to get stronger as we age. That’s why it is a sacred tradition to pass on our connection to our children and G kids. 🇺🇸 thanks for sharing

Excellent job on the Mountie knife. I have the companion folder (camp style with blade, can opened, and cap lifter) from my childhood. Left it in the mineral oil too long though, and blacked out the picture. I’ve had many memories come back since getting back into knives. Remember about a four in stag fixed blade I had as a kid. Probably a companion to a larger knife (dad and his lad set). Now I have to wonder where it went. Lol.
@knifedelights74734 ай бұрын
Thanks for letting me know about the mineral oil. You must have had a tear in the celluloid or something. I've never had an issue using mineral oil, but now I know it's not fool proof! It would be great if you could find those knives. Thanks for watching, PEDC.

Just came across your channel and subscribed. Very enjoyable video! What drew my interest is that I have a very similar fixed blade knife from Solingen Germany that I also bought back in the 70s. Mine is a Compass brand, model 843. I don't recall what I payed for it but it wasn't much. The blade guard is smaller and the leather sheath is not as nice as yours, but it has the same buck embossed on it, so I believe it might be a mid to lower grade from the same company. Great job on the RCMP knife as well!
@knifedelights74734 ай бұрын
Welcome Aboard, Joe! There were a lot of these knives made in Solingen, Germany, for export to the U.S. It seems like most of them looked very similar. Thanks for watching, my friend. Be sure to check out my playlists for more content.
