A link between worlds deserves more praise from the community. It often falls between the cracks of other Zelda greats, but it honestly offers some of the best concepts, story, and regions in a Zelda game. Plus, it was the Zelda game that prepared us for the switch titles. Great game and great video, my friend

Im not sure if you know this but there is actually a fan made patch that was made for MM 3D that makes the game more fateful to the original MM. Its called "Project restoration" and it fixes most of the issues of MM 3D. Its definitely one of the best ways to Play MM. (Great video by the way)

Okay in your defense, using a walkthrough to get you through the game is actually smart and should be more accepted. I played OoT on an old N64, and ran back and forth between the screen and my dad, who played the game over a decade prior. I didn't have access to the internet, but I had help; and if there's help, why not use it?

My first experiences with Zelda were also on the 3DS. I played a little bit of the first Zelda on the NES, but I was still in my single digits when the 3DS came out. I grew up with OOT3D and A Link Between Worlds. They’re still some of my favorites in the franchise (with ALBW being my absolute favorite). I really should go back and replay them.

A Link Between Worlds is my favorite 2D Zelda (Minish Cap comes close, and Echoes of Wisdom has a strong chance of topping it), and it was my favorite Zelda game overall for a long time. I still like it more than Ocarina. The only issue is that it's so short, easy, and fun, that I played it tons of times in quick succession and bled it dry of content. Then I died about a dozen times against the final boss while doing a 5-heart, itemless, no upgrade run. Still a great game, but content is a bit limited. Definitely still somewhere in my top 5, and it should get far more praise or recognition from the community than it currently does. LBW was also a major factor in my decision to get a 3DS to begin with.

The 3DS Zelda games I'd still say are my favourite entries in the series (maybe not Tri Force Hereos since none of my friends were into Zelda). This video really brought back the memories. I enjoyed how each of them had something that the others don't. Ocarina of Time was genuinely an eye-opening moment where previous I didn't think that video games could be so elaborate and emotional. Majora's Mask has such a mood by comparison, the time limit really stressed me out but I simultaneously wanted to do all the side quests to get the Fierce Deity's mask. A Link Between Worlds is the closest thing the series has seen to perfection. Also, I would still say that Majora's Mask 3D is a lot better than the original. The new save system, the more useful bomber's notebook and the Song of Double Time allowing you to go to any hour during the day are huge improvements. Things like the boss eyeballs or Zora swimming are more of a minor inconvinience.

Ocarina isnt just an amazing Zelda game to start with, it’s a great way to get into gaming period . By virtue of it being not just the first 3d Zelda but one of the earliest 3d titles in general, it gently guides players through its first half (child form) before throwing in the gauntlet in the second half which also fits very well with the game’s over world and subtext. It also has a very balanced mix of over world exploration, side quests, and dungeons (that are both linear and non linear) which will give all sorts of players different things to look forward to while also not overbearing players with the stuff they don’t enjoy as much.

I just watched a captivating video with a delightful story and thought-provoking insights! I love the introspective storytelling more than traditional reviews. Sometimes, these stories can lead to subjectivity and biases. It's not my place to judge anyone, as I believe it's important to be understanding and supportive of new fans joining the Zelda fanbase.

No wait the finding Zelda trailers in KZbin as a kid is so relatable. That’s how I got introduced to most Zelda games is by just accidentally stumbling upon them. I remember finding the first trailer for botw for the first time and being just an ecstatic tiny goblin. The 3ds Zelda games are such underrated gems and I will die on this hill.

I just finished an N64 playthrough and I'd argue the atmosphere on the N64 is better than on the 3DS. For example the 3DS version is often too bright in areas intended to be dark (like the Ganon battle)

I can’t believe you had, quite literally, the exact same first experience into Zelda as I did. Wanted to start with Ocarina since it was so iconic and bought it in a whim. Played LBW right after, and like three months after finishing that MM3D came out. Just perfect timing for a new Zelda fan with all of those games

Man, what a blast from the past! I played all of these games because the 3DS era was when my Zelda hyperfixation was really big! A Link Between Worlds was the first Zelda game I actually beat, and of course I played through Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask several times on the 3DS! This era of Zelda games will always hold a special place in my heart, and I still go back to these games regularly.

I had the original N64 OoT. I did not have trouble in Deku Tree. (In fact, I'm pretty sure there is something that tells you to burn the stick.) But I ran into trouble with the riddle in the second dungeon. I read the manual, and knew that the game had time mechanics. And somehow I got into my head that "seeing red" meant timing things perfectly for sunset, when the shy would be red. It never occurred to me to bomb the eyes. And this was before I'd ever realized you could look up walkthroughs online.

3DS ocarina of time was my first Zelda experience too! Growing up my mom was a huge fan of the original Zelda and I was just at GameStop one day, saw the game, and thought I’d pick it up since it was so cheap. Funnily enough, I beat the game with a guide as well since I was in 4th grade, and immediately wanted more. I then went to Majoras mask which is my favorite game of all time (I also played the 3DS version lol) and then I got triforce heroes. I slept on 2nd Zelda for so long because I didn’t think I’d be able to enjoy the games. Long story short, I played Botw and ToTK before ever touching a 2D Zelda

I think you and I experienced pretty much the same times wjile getting introduced to the Zelda franchise. When I was very little my first game was Spirit ttacks, and i loved because it was so silly and fun, but I was so dumb regarding puzzle that i would restart the game over and over without even trying😭 As a teenager I gave Zelda another shot and played OoT 3D mostly looking a playthrough because again I couldn't for the life of me understand how to solved puzzles. But that made determined to do it by myself and got the hang of it playing Link between worlds. When I got to Majoras mask, I was an expert. So yeah, I have chronic brainrot, too

Tri Force Heroes is actually one of my favorite Zelda games, and yes, the singleplayer mode isn't great. The game is amazing and ridiculous to play with friends (as intended). I didn't find the first levels hard though, the worst singleplayer part was that it was slow to get through levels. Miniboss of the 3rd area (Volcano), was also not great in singleplayer.

Odd you talked about dropping oot with monster hunter in the background, only to pick it up again later. I got MHFU for my psp when i was about 11-12 and had NO idea how to play. Dropped it for a few weeks and then started experimenting a bit more. Once i figured it out, it has been a lifelong favorite series of mine (at least until the newer games, I personally just enjoy the old skill tree system a lot more because it could get really minmaxxy, that and I think the newer games are a lot faster paced and I liked taking my time with positioning and hits and healing etc)

Your complaints about Triforce Heroes doesn't make any sense when you compared to Four Swords Adventures. First of all, Four Swords Adventures doesn't require you to only have a copy of the game and 4 controllers, it also required you to have one Gameboy advance per player. So you had to have 1 game cube, 1 copy of the game and 4 Gameboy advance consoles. Yes, you couldn't just use controllers. That means Triforce Heroes is way more reasonable for requiring 3 consoles instead of 5. Not only that but Triforce Heroes supported online multiplayer, so you didn't even need to have friends with copies of this game and 3DSs lying around to be able to experience the multiplayer mode.

I loved TriForce Heroes, but I did have friends to make it a lot more enjoyable. XD It was playable as a solo-player, but that method looks SO HARD. There was also an online-option to play with random people, by the way, but that could be a hit and a miss. Some players wanted to actually complete the levels, but you'd also get players who'd just wanna fuck around and waste your time. =/

How did we have similar experiences with this series. I rented OOT from GameFly in 2014 but got stuck and returned the game. But then my friend let me borrow link between worlds before majors mask released. Personally, except some places I don't like the visuals of the 3DS version of Ocarina of Time, to me it's too bright and colorful and they enter in conflict with the art direction of the original. Plus some details were scrapped like the shaky arms of Darunia's son due to the situation when you meet him for the first time.

Great vid, though you did a fantastic job of making me feel like the old, fossilized, pos that i am. While i assume you were mostly joking with alot of the "don't kill me for using a walkthrough" stuff, don't ever let some elitist asshole try to tell you that you didn't play the game "properly" because you used a walkthrough. using any tool available to you to help play/beat a game is equally as valid as playing a game without them. literally the entire reason stuff like that exists is to make gaming more accessible to people. i was one of those kids in the early 90's who had a copy of the original legend of zelda on nes without a manual and i had to just figure shit out. i couldn't even tell you how long it took me to find the first dungeon because it was YEARS before i even found out the place i found WAS the first dungeon. i only found that out because of the walkthroughs online and by then i had already played zelda 2, links awakening, ocarina of time, and the oracle games (btw if you want a 2d zelda that is more combat based than puzzle based check out the oracle games because one is more combat based while the other is more puzzle based)
