Yeah, normally it takes like 3 seconds if I remember correctly on PS3 to load the D-Link... not seven! Also I don't remember the game suddenly interrupting gameplay with a loading animation before activating commands like seen at 2:00. Even on PS3 I don't remember that at all. If it did that, I bet that Biskit video of things that needed to be fixed in an update/the PS4 port would have had a clip of that loading time, in addition to the main complaint for Kingdom Hearts II Drive Forms where the gameplay is most affected by the loading time.

Yeah, I hate to say it, but if it wasn't a clean slim, or a fat that's really clean... it definitely runs like this. Shoot, that and the optimization, remember skyrim on the ps3? The optimization of the ram the way it functioned, as well as how the game is optimized made it run horribly. The ps3 was a good looking console, but it's far from the ps4 and ps5. I'm 99% sure it wasn't. In all my playthroughs, all the playthroughs and speedruns I watched back then, all the reviews and discussions, I have no recollection of any performance issues outside of the long loading times. His PS3's gotta be really struggling.

well the theory is because of music licensing they couldn't download the game to the PS3 why people think this is because you can't buy this game digitally on PS3

It's mainly due to the architecture of the PS3 being so specific that games not made with that architecture in mind just don't run as well as they should. Since these games were on PS2 and PSP, they would basically needed to have remade them for them to run better on PS3. So glad the PS4 versions work so much better

​@@KagedStormThat is not the reason, the reason they run bad on the PS3 in comparison to the PS2 and PSP is that they didn't care about optimizing the remastered assets AT ALL, which is why the PS3 struggled to run it, and why the PS4 was way more capable of running it. Said lack of optimization was also the reason they couldn't put the 1.5 and 2.5 ports on Switch, so they went with Cloud versions instead.

The I/O bottleneck in this version was insane, though I don't remember my load times being this bad, maybe because my PS3 was jailbroken and I was playing from usb instead of disk

A lot of the load times were because the game couldn't be installed on PS3, that's why PS4 load times are basically inexistent. The games couldn't even be patched for the same reason and that's also why the full collection had a day 1 patch when it came out. Even the PSP version has faster load times since it had an optional data install.

I think there is something wrong with your PS3. Might be overheating or something because I recently played this and it wasn’t THIS bad and my PS3 has a really old Disk Drive and it ran realtively good at a consistent 30 fps with the occasional 25fps dips and d-links didn’t took this long.. Still this was my least favorite Kingdom Hearts and I played them all one after the other for the first time.

It's funny cause if you emulate this terrible port on RPCS3 it becomes incredibly good with near instantaneous load times, resolution scaling able to surpass 4k, and 60fps with a patch. Japanese undub too if that's your thing.

I assume it was just unoptimized for the console cause there’s no way The PS3 couldn’t have handled BBS. What really threw me off was the lag making you wait for the slide move. The disk should be loading full single areas into the ram so it shouldn’t have to load a move ever.

Framerate issues was infamously poor on PS3 due to the cell processor being too complex for most 3rd party devs to handle. That's why the overwhelming majority of multiplatform games performed better on 360 despite it being weaker hardware. If you don't believe me look at literally any old Digital Foundry video from that era.
