The Walther P99, an underrated classic. Everything that you said about it is spot on! I know a former Glock fan that shot one of these and never looked back, it's a shame that this didn't catch on more. I haven't owned a Glock since!

P99 is by far one of the greatest 9mm ever made. The AS was my first pistol, effectively spoiling me to any other pistol. The trigger is absolutley phenomenal.

The Walther P99 AS is the base model for the development of the Canik TP9 series. That is why Canik handguns are so great, particularly their smooth trigger weight pulls. The TP9 platform is an outstanding clone of the Walther P99, one of the most overlooked pistols in the USA, and yet, one the finest. People were so locked on Glock they missed the P99, which basically "flew under the radar." The PPQ and PDP evolved from the P99. Anyway, another great review assessment from you! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

@RedEyePergo4 жыл бұрын
Best upgrade you can make is a Wolff Glock 5.5 lb striker spring won't affect the awesome SA on the P99 but it makes the smooth but insanely heavy DA so much better brings a 12lb pull down to what feels like a 6 or 7 ish. So still stout and safe for carry but light enough to actually hit something with your first decocked shot. Also only cost me $6
@RedEyePergo4 жыл бұрын
My personal second favorite carry gun after my IMI Jericho 941 . I rotate between the two. Both tack drivers and pretty af. I had a DPM spring but sold it . Its decent at reducing muzzle flip but it slams the gun forward too hard and makes you send double taps way low almost creates the opposite problem of what its trying to solve.
@bdm10006 жыл бұрын
I think the P99 is superior to the PPQ which flips more. I noticed that Walther now has an OEM tungsten guide rod replacement for the PPQ, and I imagine that's why. The gun was just too light for a bore axis that high. For some reason the P99 handles recoil a little better. Sootch00 says it's because the slide is lighter, but I don't really know.
@funkyfresh24047 жыл бұрын
Nice video. I agree, my P99 is top notch. Only my P99 compact gets more carry time. I also have a PPQ that stays at home for home defense.

Great video ya'll. I've owned and carried a P99 40 since '98 and I absolutely love the gun. Sweetest trigger I've ever experienced in a sa/da format. I've NEVER had any issues of ANY kind. It just works! Let's face it, that's all you need or want in a firearm. I own a few PPQ' s in all calibers and I love those too. But I really like second strike capability. That's why I carry SIG classic pistols in rotation as well. Including the dao P250 in 357sig and 40S&W. I've been searching for quite a while for a P99 in 9mm but it's been very elusive. If anyone knows where I possibly find one please leave a comment on here and maybe I'll finally put one in my collection. Folks you can't go wrong by buying one. For that matter any of Walther's products. Thanks again ya'll. I really enjoy you two and your videos. Keep 'em coming.

What is the safest method to re-holster the P99AS, seeing as there isn’t an external hammer to place one’s thumb on?
@kazun42096 жыл бұрын
You can still place the thumb on the back of the slide like on a hammer fired DA/SA. If carryind decocked, the firing pin will start to protrude through the back if the trigger is pressed in DA, allowing for a tactile feel on the thumb if something wrong is happening during your re-holster.

GBG How heavy is the first trigger pull? I saw you pull a long first pull, but I couldn't tell how heavy that first half inch of take up was. Is there significant resistance from the start of the pull, or is it just a long light take up? I have never held a Walther AS pistol. I'm a DA/ SA only owner. If the first pull of the AS is very much the same as a Traditional Double to Single pistol, I could maybe consider a pistol like this. I'm not interested in any other Striker Fired Pistol. I value the Safety aspect of a Double Action first pull. My 2 main Carry Pistols are the Springfield XDe 9mm and the Bersa Ultra Compact Pro9
@GBGuns6 жыл бұрын
I have another video that shows it better. The AS has an anti-stress pull to a click, then the double action is slightly heavier than a normal SA pull. It's a great trigger.
@kazun42096 жыл бұрын
Mine is right around 9 lbs in DA. In AS, its the distance of the DA pull, but without the 9 lb trigger pull weight. It is rather an empty pre-travel until it sets into the SA trigger pull. Once it sets into the SA trigger distance, letting go of the trigger will not return the trigger back to the DA trigger pull distance, it will stay in SA. To get it back to DA, you must decock. To get it back to AS from here, you must then pull the slide back 1/4" +/- and then push the slide back into battery to get it to set back into AS.
@sycamorebacker15 жыл бұрын
The da pull is a standard da pull. The as mode is when it is cocked.
