In this Revit video tutorial we show you how to overcome the problem of tagging a filled region with an area parameter. Revit provides no method of doing this as the Area parameter is not available in the Detail Item tag. In this tutorial we show you a simple workaround to create a tag that does report the area of a Filled Region.

Haven't used the software in a couple years now, but planning to get back into the swing of it. Counting areas was always a chore. Feels like 8 years ago going back to Tom for Revit tips.

Very odd - if you try this using English-Imperial (Revit 2023) this does NOT work. If you use English (metric) it works and uses the models units, so you get the area in square feet.

Maurice... that is a very good question. You have met the limitation of this trick... or have you? In short, you can't schedule this parameter. However, if you were to create a shared parameter for detail items and call it, say, "Detail Area". Then obviously create a project parameter from this shared parameter you will have an empty Detail Area Parameter. Now, if you could write a Dynamo script to find all detail items, find "Area" then populate "Detail Area" with that result.. then you'd be set. Perhaps I'll do a video on this when I get a chance.

Thank you for your answer! That would do the trick indeed, unfortunately my skills in dynamo are not that great. Thanks!
