Complete Intermediate Revit Course - 20 tutorials to learn Revit fast! (part 1/20) Check out the full Revit course: successfularch...
In this full Intermediate Revit course, you will learn Autodesk Revit. In 20 tutorials, you are going to learn how to design and model confidently using the industry’s leading 3D BIM software, Revit.
If you have ever watched a Successful Archi Student KZbin video, you would have noticed that Kyle is engaging, informative and entertaining.
In this Revit tutorial, part 1, we learn how to create and manage topography in Revit. This is a complete and comprehensive topography tutorial. You’ll first learn how to create toposurfaces (site terrain) in Revit with a few different methods, one of which takes data from Google Earth to produce any site in less than 60 seconds. We also look at sub regions to create paths and roads, building pads, graded regions and adding site components like trees and plants.
Kyle’s fast-paced, to-the-point teaching style is aided by concise explanations, animations, images and exciting story telling.
What is Revit?
Revit is a BIM (building information modelling) software that creates intelligent 3D models of buildings which can be used to produce construction documentation drawings and design presentations. Revit is a building-specific solution for design and documentation and is currently the industry’s leading software for BIM. Revit is used for conceptual design, 3D parametric modelling, detailed design documentation, multi-discipline coordination, modelling building components, analysing and simulating systems and structures, iterating and visualising architectural designs, building performance analysis and more.
Why learn Revit?
Revit not only allows architects to design and model 3D solutions, but the BIM software also allows for seamless collaboration between disciplines which makes working with structural engineers, other designers, and MEP consultants incredibly efficient.
Why learn Revit with Kyle?
Let’s face it. Learning new software is often complicated and difficult. Doing it by yourself makes it even harder, but it doesn’t need to be that way. In this course, you will be learning from a Master student who has practical Revit experience across a number of architectural firms (which all use Revit as a main design and documentation tool). You will be able to follow along to learn the skills and confidence you need to use the software efficiently in a professional setting.
You can spend days, weeks or months learning Revit by yourself, and not necessarily learning it the right way. In Kyle’s 100+ lesson course, you can fast-track that journey to gain the skills to design and model in Revit at a professional level.
Most online Revit tutorials or courses are boring, slow going and demonstrate incorrect practices. Trust me, I’ve found that out the hard way. If you’ve watched Kyle’s videos before, you’d know that these Revit tutorials are fun, fast and easy to follow.
If you want to learn Revit the in a fun, fast and easy way, check out the full Revit course (100+ Revit tutorials) on my website: successfularch...

Um, how do we get the location or the files for the topography? I cant seem to find any Cad files in the intermediate course folder.

i am trying to add streets/paths, after i already picked all lines it says "the splitting boundary must split the surface into exactly two pieces" Help
@kylesinko
@kylesinko 2 жыл бұрын
Try creating a non-closed shape to split it. For example, a single line that divides the topography in two.

Thanks for this tutorial I wanted to know if there is a way (if so, a tutorial) on how to import a topographic site with 3D surrounding buildings? If that makes sense?

Another option is CADMapper - it allows you to download 3D building from satellite data.

Hey this is a great video! Would it be possible to make a stepped toposurfave using the point files without using the method of floors? I am desperate and I need to make a stepped toposurface (like we make in physical models ), I have been assigned a very big and difficult landscape (2000 sqm)... and needs to be stepped toposurface....

Hey, my toposurface came out as a lot of black triangles. Do you have any idea what the problem is? (btw thank you so much your tutorials have carried my through a project)
@kylesinko
@kylesinko 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Olivia, that's pretty common for topography in Revit as it's a mesh. If you render it out, you'll find that it renders out smooth and doesn't show any of the lines. You can also adjust the far clipping in your elevations and sections to make sure you don't see a bunch of lines in the distance, and only the cutting plane. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Hey I've loved your videos including the beginner ones. But, I still get confused about phasing. Do I convert my whole building to Existing construction or new construction phase??
@kylesinko
@kylesinko Жыл бұрын
Hi Ali. If you are creating a new building you would set the phase of each drawing/element to “new construction”. You don’t need to worry about phasing in that case. However, it becomes useful when you’re tasked to model an existing building in order to design an extension or renovation. In that case, all the existing elements can be modeled in the existing phase and any of the extension/new renovation elements can be modelled in the new construction phase. I hope that answers your question Cheers

When a CAD file is imported it is pinned. You may have "Select Pinned Objects" turned off which will disallow you from selecting it. That option is in the bottom right corner

Hi! I wonder if there is a way to edit topography in an easy way in Revit? Would you edit the height of the points one by one or group by group, or are there more advanced methods?
@kylesinko
@kylesinko 2 жыл бұрын
You would have to edit the height of each point, whether individually or per group. I only tend to edit topography in other programs though and then import it in as I don't have a requirement for it to be super accurate.

Thanks for great video! And great quality! I wonder how can you edit the pad not to cut through the hole terrain hight? Like if I have the terrain model 420m above the see level and I add the pad, it cuts through to the level 0. It doesn'r show the cut/fill parameters either... It's so frustrating 😀
@kylesinko
@kylesinko Жыл бұрын
You're welcome and thank you! Hmm, that's an interesting one. I would have to have a play around but I believe that is determined by the thickness of the pad under the Edit Type settings. Have a play around and let us know how you go
