Fun video. Your English is amazing. My wife would kill me if I did bike mechanics in the livingroom!

OK , for whatever reason KZbin's wonderful filters deleted my original post. Great job on updating your Caffeine. I have many older Cannondale bikes, only one still remains a 3x setup. It's my 1992 M700 that I have had since new. It was orginally a 3 x 7 but has now been upgraded to a 2005 ish Deore LX M580 3x9 groupset, it also has Magura HS-33R hydraulic rim brakes too. The rest of my USA made Cannondale's either have a Lefty or a Headshok and are converted to a 1x setup of either 11 or 12 speed. I know the trials and tribulations of finding a stem for one so I keep my eyes peeled on Ebay as well as other places selling used Cannondales To help you on your quest for a shorter stem, Reverse Components makes a 60mm one that fits the Headshok forks. In Europe the only place I know that has them in stock is Dr. Cannondale out of Germany. It should be what you are looking for from what you said in the video. Good luck and good job on the bike.

I am all about restomoding old bikes. I suppose that all who watched it along with the author knows Rob and his Old Shovel channel. If not, I highly recommend. As for the build, cheap cranks and chainrings from ali usually don't have torque markings on them. In this case you can resort to Shimano's standard of 12-13 nm for the chainring bolts. But do apply this only if yoy use steel bolts. Id you use these cheap colorful ones from ali you will strip the thread as they are of softer aluminium and they are about 1 mm shorter than the steel ones so there is less thread that is engaged when they are tightened.

I have to tip my hat too you - bike maintenance inside the house and no oil/grease on you but more importantly your rug 😂

weeeeeeell, not exactly. There were unfortunately some grease stains on the rug. But less than probably could have been 😅

Besides myself you are the only other one who works on bikes in their home livingspace. More people would maintain their bikes (my opinion) but they see here on YT people with "Bike workshop" rooms with big tool cabinets and pegboards . When I do work with Lubes and solvents I put A tarp over my carpeting.
@BruceOnBikes
@BruceOnBikes Ай бұрын
Yep, when I bled my brakes on my Canyon Spectral a few weeks ago, I also used a tarp to prevent nastiness. Worked great. I live in an apartment, I don't have a shed or garage or any other possibility to have something like a workshop environment. But I still want to work on my bike, so I found a way.

Thanks! I tried to keep it in good shape over the years. Only thing I had to replace before the swap were rear tire, chain and brake pads.

LG stuff feels "sluggis" bc of the ramps. It is made to smooth the shifting underload (it's primary designed to use with mid motor ebikes). Shifting under load is where the system shines. Other than that, make sure you adjusted the b tension accordingly the cassette and the chain is directional.
@haroldochiquito
@haroldochiquito Ай бұрын
CUES just do that (slow shifting). It's designed to do that, so it makes the shift in the proper ramp, nothing to worry about (although it could feel weird to some)

Hey! Your new bars have a backsweep and a rise, and they should be mounted as you showed on 3:34, like logos watching forward not upwards, otherwise bars are leaning downwards and might cause discomfort to the rider. But everything's personal preference, and if you like it, then ride it! Nice video!

I forgot to.mention things like pedals ect with threads grease the threads so there so much easier to undo later down the line as you can a build up it's called carlblockic ie aluminium to steel ect you get a build and there a right pain to undo if don't grease the threads.

Your '06 Cannondale would look Great with 7050 aluminum Thomson Elite riser bars, a 7000 series aluminum X4 Thomson stem; and Thomson 7000 series aluminum Thomson Elite post😁🤙🤙. These are also what I'm hoping🤞 to put on my 2005/06 Trek🤘🤘. I just learned a few weeks ago of Deity. They have 7075 T73 aluminum riser bars that weigh just under 300g for a bit cheaper than the Thomson risers. The Thomson riser bars range from 💰154.00-💰180.00🍁 before tax, and the Deity 7075 risers are 💰119.00- 💰124.00🍁 before tax🤙🤙.

Nice effort but if your son want to ride in a tough terrain you should get him a dropper seat post. I think for this diameter an inverted dt Swiss one might be a good idea. Yes a 6cm stem would be a good upgrade for modern XC too.
@BruceOnBikes
@BruceOnBikes Ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion! It would have to be a dropper with external cable routing, there's no internal routing whatsoever on this bike.

Wow! It's a Headshock ULTRA FATTY DLR. I also have a Caffeine F3 that was released in 2006. Sadly, the stem that fits the Headshock 1.56 inch steerer tube is no longer available on the planet. It has been out of stock in all online shops in various countries for 6 months. The only solution is to drop the "Headshock" and put a regular fork on it... but that would destroy the identity of this bike. At least I can use 27.5 inch wheels.
@BruceOnBikes
@BruceOnBikes Ай бұрын
Oh, I could put 27.5s on this? I haven't tried yet, still on 26 inch wheels. No way that I relace the Headshok with a normal fork. As you said, it would destroy the bike's identity.
@mustler0
@mustler0 Ай бұрын
Yes, my Cannondale with 2" wide "Continental Contact Urban" tires on 27.5" wheels for city riding. I keep the front tires air pressure at 58psi, because if it goes over 60psi it will interfere with the shock valve located under the fork. If you want gravel tires, 1.95" wide "Panaracer Gravel King" is also available. I think the "Continental Speed King (2" wide)" maybe available if I keep the pressure in the front tires air pressure at 40-45psi. That seems like the best compromise to maintain the Cannondale identity.

I'm planning/hoping🤞on putting M8000 XT components on a mid 2000s Trek, I know rather cr😁zy. So far, I've ordered the L shifter, I still want front shifting🤙🤙. My question is, is there anything I can do to put the M8000 XT Boost 2X crank on this 2005/06 Trek? There doesn't seem to be many stores online offering the regular M8000 XT 2X crank.

I forgot that modern bikes have slightly wider axles. I was also planning on upgrading my WTB 6061 aluminum wheels to Mavic Crossride (💰500.00🍁). I'm not sure if this rather old wheelset would make up the difference in axle width. Thanks.

Great video and about your English, your English is way better than most Englishmen. I am not sure about this but I thing your front chain ring is on the incorrect side. Should it not be mounted on the outside of the crank. Just asking.
@samblenkharn8099
@samblenkharn8099 Ай бұрын
When you're retrofitting a crank spider designed for 3 chainrings with just 1 chainring, you just put it whichever side gives the best chainline.
