I didn't realize how big the bowl was until you planted. At first I thought there was no way all the plants would fit, but you have room to spare! Beautiful setup, and some beautiful core memories for little Quinn😊
@FishShopMatt8 ай бұрын
Yeah it's quite sizeable really. Yep it's cool that we will have these videos to look back on.
@MandyJane1237008 ай бұрын
It's going to look fantastic once the plants root in and start growing (but you will have lots of trimming to do!). I'm pretty sure nearly all of those plants will grow from the top of an aquarium, too. Quinn is adorable!
@FishShopMatt8 ай бұрын
Yeah it's definitely going to need a trim fairly often. Yep I know where all the trimmings are going hahaha.

The purple passion plant has been a favorite of mine for decades. I absolutely adore them. Tell Quinn I adore all his colorful plants as well. Hope the gorgeous Dalmation are doing well, I miss mine so much.

The Gynura is also known as purple passion vine. It grows as a vine and has orange pompom-like flowers. They grow like wild fire at least mine did.

Actually looks like a very nice plant selection for the bio-orb. Getting to see your family in any video is always a treat, especially watching you interact with Q. That is always fun and different. Please keep'em coming, FSM. Great job once again.

Well, Quinn has exceptioanal taste in plants. A 'budding' horticulturist!' in the family. Absolutely encourage that. The ball looks fantastic. Every bit as nice as teh first incarnation. Just different. Yeah, the Schefflera is a tree, but I'd venture a guess that you just might have a year or two before it out grows your Biorb. Can't wait to see it in a month or so. Cheers, Quinn! And you too, Matt! 🙂 ~Ron

Quinn was right, it ended up looking awesome... One small thing tho, whenever you use store bought plants, make sure to remove as much pot soil as you can, I didn't do that at first, until some random plant had fertilizers and pesticides in the soil and it ended up killing my springtails and isopods 🫠🫠🫠

Crazy that Quinn is already 2 years old, i just rewatched the rare tetra build where he was sleeping in the stroller. We are expecting our first child in November and can't wait to do fun projects together 😊

It goes so fast, when people tell you it goes fast you don't believe them. It's a fantastic experience and make sure to live every minute of it bad or good. Looking back on it now it's a whirlwind but I loved every minute. Congratulations and I look forward to hearing about it in the comments.

Love the colorful choice on plants Quinn picked out! Good job little man! The orb looks great planted up with them. Good job, Dad. :) The isopods you call dairy cows, we used to call rolly pollys. I really like your name for them, so cute. I hadn't seen the video of what the orb was like when you planted it up first. I really like it now anyhow. Look forward to updates on it. Thanks Matt, and Quinn!

Tradescantia are my favorite plants I have there super easy to maintain and fab for cuttings! I have a red fritonia and a bright green and pink one I didn't even realise they could possibly be safe for my isopods! I love your set up and now I really want a display tank 😍😍

Quinn went from baby to toddler in a blink of an eye. He has good taste in plants, future plant collector! In the USA the purple plant is commonly called Purple Passion or Velvet plant. Thanks for sharing
@feralnonbinaryautistic8 ай бұрын
Tradescantia cuttings root really easily in water - guessing they'd happily grow out of the top of an aquarium too. Slice off a bit of stem with a few leaves, peel off the bottom leaf and make sure the node it came from is below the surface.
@FishShopMatt8 ай бұрын
Oh yeah! I already have some plans hahaha.
@meghanndoyle79258 ай бұрын
That purple sparkly one can grow like mad. I have some absolutely taking over a large planter outside on my balcony (Taiwan). I trim it back about a foot every two weeks. Treat it like stem plants in your aquariums. It Roots easily and does really well with a good haircut. It looks great! I love your work!
@FishShopMatt8 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I'm hoping for lots of cuttings for use in other setups.
@RotGoblin8 ай бұрын
You could consider adding a millipede, they often cohabitate with isopods in the wild. The only risk is when the millipede is molting, more aggressive isopods may attack it, so it's a YMMV kinda thing. Outside of the weird purple plant, the rest of that planted up better than I expected, well done Quinn.

Keeping the family invested with you and interested is far more important tham aesthetics. So many children grow up spiteful to parents hobby because of the time spending wars. Anything that combines family and hobby is a WIN. Let Quinn choose! Love this update.

Some of those plants are going to try a hostile takeover of the orb! 😂 with some trimming it should grow in and look fantastic though. I haven’t had much success with any of my terrariums so far. I’d love to get one of the Biorb Airs someday.

What fun, and a bit of colour through winter when that comes around. Regarding a companion animal, this might work, or not, but shrimp. If you replaced one of the rocks with a container which could act as a pool and planted it with something small that shrimp like. You might be able to get a small shrimp colony in there too, maybe. But you’d probably need to feed the shrimp though.

I've been learning more and more about Isopods and you'll see more of them as the population gradually increases 🙂 Love to see the update, how long would you say the orb has been going now? Are you giving them any food like your fruit/veg offcuts or any cuttlefish/prawns? The latter is needed to help with their exeskeleton and shedding.

Oh, that sucks. Would have thought the water reservoir at the bottom could deal with the faster fanspeed for a couple of days. But anyways, the colored plants look indeed very good in there. It might be a good thing that you are starting to think about a bigger creature in there. For the looks but also to keep your dairy population under control. Didn't think about that until it was too late.
