The first Emperor's biggest mistake was allowing the Pope to keep the Papal States. Should've kept Rome, and, by extension, The Vatican, as his personal dominion.

The capital had long been outside of rome by that point. See Milan or ravenna, rome had become something of a prestige title at that stage in history.

Dissolution factions are way too powerful. I'm not sure what Paradox was thinking when they added them. It's not like empires didn't randomly explode all the time before they were introduced.

Idk there was definitely lots and lots of complaints about how empires were virtually immortal as soon as the got primogeniture. The idea is if you're that big you should definitely focus more on vassal management via intrigue or diplomacy rather than military. I think they should have a higher threshold to fire though and all the vassals who don't want dissolution should be allowed to join in in the defense

They also controlled 70% of the Roman empires territory, so historically speaking, if you want to be technical about it. Rome existed until 1922. They just changed their name to the "Ottoman Empire", then converted to islam... still as much roman as the byzantines were Technically. In my opinion, the Roman empire exists to this day as the United States...

Can you try the same but instead of making the Emperor Hellenic and Roman(a culture and a religion that doesn't exist at that time period) just give the title to the Byzantine Emperor. Damn , that dualist glitch still happens? It's a glitch that you can even get as a player (especially with mods) that makes it so that every couple days there's a chance that you convert religion. It was ruining my games for a while lol it was unplayable since whoever I was playing would switch to a different dualist faith every 2 days.

You are being that guy, as are all the other high schooler byzantiboos in the comments. We keep the distinction between “Roman” and “Byzantine” for a reason. The Byzantines were the continuation of the Roman ruling administration but the population were Hellenes not Latins. There is a clear difference between the pagan Rome of antiquity and the Christian Rome of the Middle Ages. When people think of the “Roman Empire”, they think of the Rome of Julius Caesar, a great pagan empire controlling the entire Mediterranean and then some.

@@monkeymoment6478 The Eastern Roman Empire was called literally by all other states during that period of time, " The Roman Empire " until the fall of Constantinople, the term "Byzantine" was coined by the Germans to basically attempt to legitmize the HRE. There is no difference between Pagan Rome and Christian Rome as Christian Rome was still in mid-late antiquity. When people speak of Rome, they speak of all variants of Rome, Republic, Empire, Tetrarchy etc. People often call the East as a Empire of Hellenes, but they fail to mention that the East was always Greek, even during the times of Augustus. There is a reason why Greek was so commonly spoken even amongst senators in Rome, so common in fact that Cato was considered an outlier for refusing to speak Greek. And Roman culture was in fact a blend of Latin and Greek, thats why it's called Greco-Roman.

You can restore the Roman Empire in the game with no mods. There is an event for that. But you'll need to be either Italian or Greek ruler.(or any other culture that derived from or preceded those two) There are other requirements ofc, you'll be able to see them in game if your culture is Italian or Greek. There are also events for mending the schism in Christianity, and moving imperial capital back to Rome. Not sure if they fixed the dismantling of of the Pope, it's been reserved exclusively to pagans before.

No, they were Hellenism (there pantheon was a whole bunch of pagan religions combined basically), but eventually converted to Christianity

@@enzyblox I'm well aware of the romans original faith and there pantheon jupiter, mars, Juno, etc. But that was only ever the religion of the heart of the empire and well definitely the state religion it had no sway in entire provinces and even in the heartlands various near east cults held great sway. Christianity in the other hand swept over the entirety of the empire and had a lot more sway making organized churches with real power. And while the time each religion held sway over Rome is about equal the Christian faith held sway over its imperial period for far longer.

No offense, but this doesn't make sense because even in reality, in our timeline, the real Roman empire was Catholic Christian in 476AD when it collapsed... i want you to try this exact same thing again, but make Rome Catholic like real life and see what happens... they would 100% be Catholic if they existed in 1066AD. I bet they last much longer, so by making them inaccurately not Catholic, you rigged and altered the results.(i know the game says they were "hellenic," but thats because the game is historically inaccurate. So don't listen to the game, Rome was Catholic.
