The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is a handsome mid-size SUV with off-road creds. In a sea of SUVs, what makes the CX-50 turbo simply more fun and engaging to drive? We tested the CX-50 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus which includes full time AWD, leather, Bose audio, heads up display and the more powerful engine.

Torque is because of the REAL transmission- and the 6 speed is PERFECT- 8 is too many- strains at certain levels and is just too much. This I think is the one I have settled on-- and yes- FAST ENOUGH-- it meets the speed limits with no issues-- don't need a damn hotrod.. I think I'd like the Meriditian trim.. but I LOVE that color-- like the crystal red too... but can't get that on the meridian trim..

I'm considering a 2024 Mazda CX-50 Meridian. Watched a lot of reviews, but not a single reviewer has made mention of the cylinder deactivation (base engine) or the start/stop i-Stop feature (turbo engine). Cylinder deactivation is absolutely a no-go for me, which leaves only the turbo consideration. Not fond of the engine shutting down when coming to a stop either. Why? Can the i-Stop feature be disabled or somehow permanently disabled?

My very first Mazda was a 1979 RX-7...this is now my fourth Mazda...very reliable vehicles.

I just recently drove the Outback and the CX-50 back to back. The Mazda is DEFINITELY built with a better fit and finish compared to the Subaru. I think you can't say too much in terms of reliability, they both have comparable tried and true powertrains in their respective brands. Definitely sit in both, but the Mazda won on almost every metric compared to the Subaru. Granted you are paying a little more depending on the trim with the Mazda.

Would be great cars if they had comfortable interiors and modern features like lane centering. The seats are terrible. Why is the center console switched around in the CX-50 versus the other models? The wireless charging is not large enough to fit ultra size phones. Where is the wireless charging for the passenger's phones? I do not really like not being able to see outside the small rear window on compact cars. Maybe the rear view mirror should have a rear view camera like some other cars have. The entire dash could be rear view screens. Need to get rid of the chrome inside. Is there a black out kit? Hate the high contrast white on black infotainment. Does Mazda need to update to a dual clutch 10 speed transmission?

@jclouw321
@jclouw321 Жыл бұрын
Turbo technology has been excellent for years and years now. Brands like Toyota, Volvo, Saab (rip) and others have been making extremely reliable turbo engines for decades now. Heck I’ve got 2 turbo Volvo wagons in my garage totaling almost 500k in miles between the two, both on their original turbos and without needing any major engine work. And that’s not unheard of at all, at least with that brand. Mazda seems to have done a great job keeping their turbo system basic and low pressure, two things that tend to lead to long lasting turbo engines. Being wary of turbo technology is like how people where wary of fuel injection in older engines. Was it always reliable? No. But the tech has advanced so far that not adding a turbo is doing a disservice to power output and efficiency in many cases.

You're living in yesterday's world with regards to modern turbos
@oligarchy-usa
@oligarchy-usa Жыл бұрын
@@cwqrpportable They used to be worse, but they still aren't reliable long-term, especially if your typical driving/commuting & maintenance routines match that of most people. Go watch the Car Care Nut video on turbo engines, their inherent shortcomings/problems, & how to maximize their lifespan. Smaller-displacement turbo engines are the worst of modern turbos though & are a pretty bad investment. I'll stick to naturally-aspirated engines myself. My 2.5L 186hp 2022 CX-30 CE is plenty peppy without a turbo & gets reasonably-good MPG at the same time, so I'm happy.
@cwqrpportable
@cwqrpportable Жыл бұрын
@@oligarchy-usa All that counts is that you're happy. I watch all of AMD's videos, he's a good man. I agree with you that, to run a turbo efficiently and for long term use, an owner has to be vigilant about maintenance, no arguing that. I run a fleet of turbo charged engines in pick up trucks and heavy machinery in my open pit mine and quarry. I too am very happy with the longevity of these turbo engines, run in extreme operating conditions. The benefits of these forced induction engines far outweighs the risks. Downtime due to mechanical issues is a big problem in a business. I'm currently shopping for a small SUV and have narrowed my list to the '24 CR-V EX-L hybrid and the '24 CX-50 GT Turbo, I love the Ingot blue in that model. It doesn't scare me at all to buy the turbo motor in that 2.5 Skyactive; I've been around turbos a long time, including in smaller engines. I've only test driven the turbo GT, maybe I'll see if they have a non turbo model for me to compare. At this point I'm open to comparisons. Keep enjoying your CX-30, they seem like a nice little ride. I appreciate Mazda's approach to design and performance and their warranty is superb.

I agree with you how the seats are not the most comfortable. In fact, no review has ever said the seats are comfortable. They are quite firm to the point that they aren't comfortable for a long drive. Also, the panoramic sunroof has one of the worst opening of any panoramic sunroof.
