I drove a second gen Prius for 10 years. It was reliable vehicle. It never left me stranded. It never broke down. The battery pack never failed. I put over 200,000 miles on it for work. I made money with it on business trips for mileage reimbursement. On long cross country trips I had to stop for me, not fuel. I had to get out to stretch. I was ranging 557 miles on a tank. After 10 years, I traded it in on a Camry SXE. Today I drive a Tundra. If I had to buy a new sedan and my choices were EV and Hybrid, I would choose the Prius. EVs just are not reliable enough yet.

@@revmatchtv The only reason I traded it in to the dealership is because an air conditioning part failed that was located way up under the dash. Summers here can get to over 100 degrees. A $75 part that was going to cost $1500 in labor to replace. The dash and the computers had to come out to get to the part. So, after 10 years and that many miles it was an easy trade for a new red Camry XSE. The Prius was a good solid car. I do like the new sporty looking Prius, but you will have to pry me out of my Tundra.

Yes I agree with your experience. My 2002 Prius sedan experienced zero major issue over the 16 years of ownership and my college daughter was driving it as a pass down vehicle when it was flooded during a storm while the daughter was attending class. The Prius sedan had 260K miles when it was totaled and its battery, engine, transmission, suspension and ÁC system still work like new. Amazingly dependable vehicle

@TundraExplorer5.7 I think about it too. However, I do haul lumber and 4x8 sheets of plywood in the Tundra, occasionally. However, when you need a truck it is a pain to find someone with a truck who has time to help you out. Been there. One other thing that comes to mind. My wife drives a RAV4. When we go on trips my wife always says, "Lets go in the Tundra." She feels more secure in the Tundra. She claims it rides better. She likes the roomy cab area. So, I don't think the Prius is in my future.

@@revmatchtv maybe there can be aftermarket to reduce the electric power steeering amount by software? or swap it with fixed pressure hydrallic steering, so lesss battery energy used to power steering, it maybe no heavier than electric system too. not just for fun, also to minimize braking and un smooth steering, and doing them steadily, to max longveity of regen system battery, engine fuel and oil, brake pads, tires, etc. ....toxic material wear like microplastics pff tires are prabbly wore than engien emissions in terms of human health, and "suspicious observers" and does videos in aruement against idea that climate change is casued by humans, theres arguement that oil they gt petrol from is not from fossils because many fossils are far under oil rerserves but not compressed into oil, and stuff liek that. rather oil is product of stuff like anaroebic bacteria, its like taking blood from human: dont take out too much at once or else body cant keep making blood. anyway, i dont think making it mandatory to charge when many cant , because htey live in apartment, or becaue their local grid cant handle the energy demands for so any eletcric cars at once, or because it wouldnt be cheaper to run long term especially if they cant charge from home without fast charging, because lot of energy going in and out batteyr faster worsens battery degradation, many used teslas are not being brought on aftermarket for this reason. makign cars and digging material up for batteries is heavy cost, stuff is not recyled. ... toyota gave japan trd prius with stiffer chassis, mutlilink rear suspension, sway bar, no power upgrade, for this way of having fun.

I had a 3rd gen prius, and after a couple of years, I got rid of it just because I didn't like the driving dynamics. Now I am not a sports car enthusiast, but I found that the Camry gave me what I was looking for. This new prius is highly enticing, and considering my trade valuation for the camry, given the used car market, I might just consider a trade-in for this new prius

They did a nice job on the interior. Physical HVAC a massive plus and good for their audience. Minimalist "gauge" cluster makes sense for the use case and demographic. Only thing I hate is that strange kink off the middle screen to add the volume knob, but at least it's there. At first I thought it should be on the driver side, but then I remembered steering wheel controls. They could have integrated the screen a bit better too, but it's fine.

I bought my 2008 Prius brand new I average 50 miles per gallon since I do not do any short trips. I use my bike shopping and going to town. It’s garage kept which I think helps the battery lasts longer, and I have the original battery and it’s a classic if I keep it long enough. I only have 150,000 miles on it should last me another five years before cars can drive themselves then I’ll consider that. Thanks for the review I really like the new style and will consider in the future.

Even my 2012 (and I AM planning on trying to buy a 2023 when they show up at the dealers) can accelerate more than well enough to merge onto the interstate, pass safely, and so on. No complaints from me (ditto with my 2007 when I had it as well).

Same here. While a bit more power & handling is always welcome (particularly when efficiency remains the same 😉), I have never found the modest power / acceleration / handling to be inadequate of the Prius I have/had. I had a 2006 before, and currently a 2014 Plug In, and they have both been excellent and reliable vehicles. I am on a waitlist for a 2023 Prime. 😎

Very nice redesign, but getting in and out will be a problem for some because of the raked windshield, low roofline and doors that don't open wide. I am now seeing articles by writers claiming the Prius is a let down and should be the flagship of technology for Toyota. They put it down because it is not loaded with tech. I bet you they didn't even drive the Prius. That is acceptable in journalism now. Write an article you know nothing about. I am glad that Toyota is conservative with tech. When I bought my Camry XSE, I got every available tech option one could get in a Camry. Fully loaded. I ordered it that way. Nice features, but to be honest, I didn't use all that tech. Not while I was driving. Some of my friends have bought other brands with the latest tech only to find after six months to a year that latest tech failed or was recalled. If you didn't have the extended warranty it was going to cost over $1,000 to replace. It is not always the best thing to be on the "bleeding edge" of technology. I put 11,000 miles on the Camry, then traded it in for a Tundra.

@@zoobrizz Oooh, lucky you! What trim did you get? I'm still waiting. The next one in is mine, but I have no idea what it is. I know in the showroom they have a guardian gray Limited. If an LE comes in, I'm going to ask about the limited. I've been saving up a decent down payment. I live on the videos and I really want the limited.

23:28 - Lots of techie things I want from the Limited version (advanced parking, digital rear view mirror, vented seats...) but I love the additional MPG from the XLE version. And how much I can go on a single tank I think is the most important factor. But between the two XLE versions, it's $1400 to go from FWD to AWD and get 2HP more. Is that enough to warrant $1400? Cause now I'm zeroing in on the XLE FWD as much as I was excited to get as much power as I could without going up to the Limited model.

Nobody is talking about the electric aspects of the car...do you plug it in? Do they still have all that cheap plastic underneath... total cubic cargo space of a 2010 Prius was 50.7 cubic feet what is this total....what else is the big screen for besides GPS I use Waze so is it necessary?
@revmatchtv
@revmatchtv Жыл бұрын
It’s not a plug in. The Prius Prime which is the plug-in version debuts in March. The big screen is for everything except HVAC. All your media and vehicle settings are there. At this launch event, we only had a few hours with the vehicles, so you probably won’t see anything in depth until these press vehicles roll out to the reviewers.

Toyota aims to sell about 36,00 0 in the US this year. I think a large chunk will be in California since that's the biggest market. Toyota sold about 30,000 Priuses last year, but I expect demand will be a little higher too. They have said they will make more if there is demand.

Better looking than a Tesla 3 to my eyes. Not bothered about the power increase. The fuel economy is ok, but it's not as good as I'd expect from a new generation. Not keen on huge rims either, just means more expensive tyres.

It does look good! I may have brought this five years ago but like many people I’ve already moved on from gas. With a discount in the US I’m going to get a Tesla model 3 for about 38,000. Cheaper fuel, charge up at home from solar panels and almost no maintenance. Faster, safer, and better tech too. (I Currently Drive a generation two Prius). If it was an all electric Prius, I would’ve strongly considered it….

Start watching for it! You are going to see a lot of stories about the folks who invested in EVs that suddenly found themselves stranded during this last winter storm that just blew through for the holidays. The stories are already starting to pop up about EVs that wouldn't charge in this cold or those EVs that did start only found a quarter of their range was available. Hybrid is the way to go. Think about this, you all see those big railroad engines? Those have diesel power plants. Some more than one diesel power plant, that are driving multiple electric motors on the axles. Hybrids! Those work pulling tons of cargo in all kinds of weather. If the government forces me to buy an energy efficient vehicle I will buy a hybrid before I buy an EV.

@@zoobrizz Because, Prime has many differences from regular: Price, Trunk Space, Gross Vehicle Weight, MPG, how smoothly moves from EV only to hybrid, how quickly bigger battery charges up, and a dozen other factors. Anyway, looks like that review is already done based on the pinned message.

It’s a solid No for me . The back seats are so close & tight it’s for people like 5’6” ; otherwise you literally have just inches to the ceiling of the car . It’s too tight for me. Just one bump you will hit your head on the ceiling. It’s a safety hazard ! I’m not even 6 foot . Good luck if your 6ft+ getting in the back seat . I already prayed for y’all
