I think what it needs(sounds complex but compared to this, it’s hard to say “too” complex) But a small dome, and all it has to do is rotate against some brushes. Those brushes could be equipped with an injection system for a cleaning solution as well. But not really necessary

In a few years there will be a residual streak from dried up soap and atmospheric particles attatching and drying to the wet area from the flow as it also slowly weathers the paint and metal, technically making it "dirty" unless the owner comes behind it and wipes or sprays it away, thus eliminating the self washing tile and creating the BMW self washing paradox.

I think you’re over thinking it my boy. The camera cleans itself only when the lens is blocked from debris. It’s not going to be doing it everyday. Also this seems like something that’d break before it ever even works right. So I doubt it’d ever be a worry.

I see they couldn't add a rubber grommet or thin coating, so it doesn't sound so cheap every-time it opens with a plastic "thunk". Although it's not "Revolutionary", as it's the same thing as headlight washers since at least the 1960s, it is indeed an extremely clean implementation. It certainly helps that the BMW logo happens to already have the perfect design to pull it off so well. Thank you 2015, your legacy of reverse-camera-washers lives on, and now it actually looks good. Although, I'm glad they kept the permanently-affixed camera instead of a hidden motorized camera. Even if just for the "dash cam" aspect, or "surround view". If the washer motor fails, you still have a camera; But if the motor on the hidden camera fails, you're without a camera. Good choice.

Yeah, now you don't have to get out of the car in cold weather or unbuckle after you are already to go. Now you don't have to carry something to wipe your camera lens with or use your thumb and get it all dirty which can get in your car interior or on your clothes.
