Please bring back Mazdaspeed! We just ordered a white cx90 phev. We have gen1 Mazdaspeed 3 and would love to add a new one to our fleet! My first Mazda was a 2000 Mazda protege back in the day. I'm definitely a fan... In many Mazda car clubs and went to many of your events. Zoom zoom live... Hot import nights (hosted by Mazda). I believe we deserve Mazdaspeed to be resurrected! #Mazdaspeed4Life

Brian, did you notice any issues with the transmission searching for gears/slipping? I've seen some other videos that mention that.

Thats the goofy 48 volt Mhev. The PHEV has a powerful electric motor doing all the duties of a torque converter. (It drives better than the inline 6). Nobody wants to say it out loud,...I will !

@@peterkoe5044 you’re correct that there isn’t a torque converter, but it’s replaced by a clutch pack, which is in addition to the electric motor.

Hi Brian, how do you compare phev with turbo I6? Is phev much sluggish and heavy ? How much different in drive, ride quality and execution, cabin noise, which one you recommend?
@BrianMakse
@BrianMakse Жыл бұрын
I prefer the 6 for the power and refinement of that engine. I didn’t drive them back to back, but in daily driving 99% of drivers won’t notice a difference save for a little 4cyl noise. The upside of the PHEV for me is that I’d be driving on pure electric four days out of seven.

Waiting for my PHEV CX 90. Thanks for the review. I worry about the cost of repairing a new platform like this espcially they've jam packed a lot of things in the engine block. Easy access is no longer easy based on mechanics review on this car
@peterkoe5044
@peterkoe5044 Жыл бұрын
Your mistaken brother. The car care nut was speaking about the inline turbo 6. Your PHEV model is a longitude mounted inline 4, with the intake manifold on the driver side. The coolant valve control and electronic CVVT motor is off the front. Easy maintenance and even repair. Now the electric motor is behind the Gas motor. You would not be screwing with that high voltage crap anyway,LOL. Take heart, no turbo to mess with, no electronic wastegate. Plug and coil changes are simple.

Simple math; PHEV travels 25 miles on full battery charge PHEV travels 25 miles on gasoline So full batter charge can save up to 1 gallon of gasoline Battery charge equals 15 Kwh Take you last electric bill (total including tax and fees) divide by Kwh used and that eis your electric cost per Kwh Multiply 15 Kwh by your cost and that is what it costs to charge the battery and compare to cost for 1 gallon of gas. Is your savings worth the $4,000 PHEV option cost??
@erichon00
@erichon00 Жыл бұрын
That's what I'm trying to validate - I guess very long term the pay off is achievable but the technologies are still too new to truly justify?
@clarkkent9080
@clarkkent9080 Жыл бұрын
@@erichon00 It depend on where you live. I have chatted with people who have very cheap electricity (0.11 per Kwh) and expensive gasoline ($4.50 per gallon) and for them the break even point is a ~ 4 years before they can count on savings. However if you compare vehicles, the CX-90 is very gasoline (MPG) efficient for its size but the most inefficient PHEV (electric usage) sold today. The EPA assigns a MPGe that is supposed to relate miles per electricity with the equivalent energy of one gallon of gasoline. The number is useless in determining how far you can go on electric but it can be use to compare efficiencies. The Cx-90 has a MPGe of 56 The rav4 prime has a slightly larger battery and has a MPGe of 94
@clarkkent9080
@clarkkent9080 Жыл бұрын
@@jjchockey Anyway you work the numbers out, a lease is just renting the vehicle for 3 years and the lender is charging you on average 15% for renting their vehicle. After 3 years you own NOTHING. If you go over the set mileage or damage the vehicle that will cost you. Dude, it can travel no further than ~25 miles in EV mode on a charge. In hybrid mode it gets 25 mpg combined city/highway. The electric to charge that battery is almost as much as the cost for the gas it saves. Do you get electricity for free??? There was just and article published that confirmed many EVs and PHEVs cost more to run on electric than the cost of the gas they save. Don't believe me, do the math. Where do you get 80 mpg?????
@DelaneyAlexander-pf4vx
@DelaneyAlexander-pf4vx 11 ай бұрын
Its a bit more than that...the electric AND GAS side uses that battery, which can be regenned /recharged internally. There are people getting 40 mpg with these.
@clarkkent9080
@clarkkent9080 11 ай бұрын
@@DelaneyAlexander-pf4vx If you are using electric AND gasoline you have a gasoline and electric cost. The trip computer ONLY calculates miles driven (gas and/or electric) divided by gasoline used. There is a YT channel claiming they got 56 MPG when I asked, they confirmed they drove super careful and got 28 miles on all electric and then switched to ICE and got 28 more miles and the trip computer displayed 56 mpg The regen braking system is a joke and it is super inefficient to use a gasoline engine to charge a battery. The EPA rates the CX-90 PHEV as 25 mpg combined and 28 mpg highway. The g stands for gallons of gasoline. NO One is getting 40 miles per gallon of gasoline.
