Nihilism, as represented by Smith, asserts that there is no purpose to life, that there is no such thing as free will, that it is impossible to ever know the truth, and that life is characterized by deterministic chaos inside of a meaningless void. The Existentialist, as represented by Neo, acknowledges and affirms the perspective of the Nihilist while also affirming that it is worth fighting for existence for its own sake. Thus Smith, the nihilist, negates his own existence by affirming the choice made by Neo, the existentialist, to accept his fate and final purpose. (*whoo* that is a lot to digest.)
