I was about 23 when it came out and I still remember listening to ‘11th Hour’ for the first time and I could not believe what I was hearing. The riffs, the tone for each individual instrument had a unique sound, the song writing, Randys voice…it all connected SO well. It was a mix between Megadeth and Pantera but with a modern vibe. I know I’m gonna get a lot of shit for this but I thought AOTW was a step down compared to this album, WAY down. The grit and guts were gone. For me, the production was a bit too polished. To me Sturm und Drang is a solid album. Can't really think of any filler song, sound is amazing, the riffs, the drums and the vocals are all in place. Has to be said it was my first LoG record, so I might be biased. I agree with Sacrament, I didn't really like it as a whole, but it does have some of the best LoG songs. And I admit I haven't got around to listen to all of the Lamb of God albums from start to finish yet, but I can safely say this: Ashes of the Wake is my all time favourite record. I love the chaos that is present throughout the album, the songs structurally being all over the place, it's so raw and unpredictable. Randy's vocals in Break You are phenomenal. The whole thing is a masterpiece. I've listened to it from start to finish at least a hundred times and still can't get enough. Maybe that chaos is what I'm missing from the 2020 record, it's still solid, but it sounds, I dunno, a bit refined? Looking forward to Omens.

I guess we all listen to music from a different place - most people who play guitar will base their decision on the guitar parts, drummers on the drum parts, non-musicians on how it makes them feel, audiophiles will rank things based on production values etc. (and of course we're all a bit of each of these so we're all somewhere a combination of these things) - for me my main interest in Lamb of God comes from the combination of their unique sound, combination of rawness with technical ability and huge songs filled with memorable riffs. But most of all there's some really unique weird shit going on. And to me that's why I like their first 3 albums best. I get why he didn't rank NAG so high as it's their first, but I really love the creativity on that, and I feel that these really creative, surprising, unique parts have been more and more absent from their later records. Maybe I need to listen to everything more, but from Sacrament on I just lost interest because every song basically sounded the same, unlike the earlier stuff where each song was immediately recognizable for having this or that super weird or cool little bit going on. I think Mark's playing was a big part of that too. Hope they'll get more weird and creative in the future.

As the palaces burn is 100% #1 on my list as well! The album in my life was the period of time where it straight up had everything i wanted in a band and helped shaped my metal tastes for many years to come to current! Love that album and its what turned me on to LOG and i was lucky enough to see them sooo many times between As the palaces burn and ashes of the wake! And i met Mark after a show in Towson Maryland in a small ass club called Richer theater. Super super cool guy like genuinely ☺️

Totally. Met him a few years back and he signed my Dominion. Went out of his way to do that. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet

Well, that was an amazing video. Thank you for that, Mark! I was hanging on every word you were saying, lol...loved it. I've been a fan since Ashes, and from my point of view--Sturm Ung Drang is most definitely near the top of my list, along with Ashes of course, Self Titled VII, and Wrath. No specific order there. The way you guys have evolved through the years is unmatched. It's as if you learn from each previous album, and with every new album that comes out, I become a bigger fan (didn't know that was possible!) You guys hold a very special place in my heart, and that will never change!🖤

Damn that's tough lol, for me Sturm un drang is pretty high. Still echoes, 512, overlord, and nightmare seeker are all bangers. Front to back I'd give Wrath #1.

Agree on Strum, one of my favourites. I think Chris Adler said it was his favourite Log record

Engage the Fear Machine pretty solid too, slowed up but still crushes hard

I discovered LOG at 18, Ashes of the Wake...lifelong fan here...and Mark's not wrong, now...New American Gospel recorded would be amazing!!!

I find it pretty hard to rank them individually but a rough tier list of my current thoughts would be: A: Ashes / Palaces / Killadelphia B: Sacrament / Wrath / BTP C: Gospel / Resolution / Legion XX D: Sturm / LoG Really I love pretty much every song in A & B tier though, that’s just for the sake of trying to have a little bit of order. Maybe at some point I’ll like the more recent stuff but for now I’m not feeling it.

I'm making my way through learning the palaces record. My personal favorite album is probably wrath. As mark said its extremely consistent all the way through it keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through.

wrath was the first album i bought but resolution came out right when i was graduating high school and i remember the build up to its release and waiting to buy it and just blasting the hell out of it in my car and room every chance i got it was so different from everything else that was out at the time and it is still my favorite to this day

As the Palaces Burn is still my favorite album. It's a perfect no-skip classic album to me.

Really cool to hear Mark's perspective on the catalog! My ranking (not yet including "Omens", which is killer): 8) New American Gospel 7) As the Palaces Burn 6) Sturm Un Drang 5) Resolution 4) Wrath 3) Sacrament 2) Self-titled 1) Ashes of the Wake Love them all, though, and I listen to all of them regularly. "Omens" is incredible as well, but I've only listened to it 4 times through, so I'll need more time with it before deciding where I'd rank it.

Palaces has always been my Gold Standard for LOG albums, every song is an absolute masterpiece top to bottom

Fuck yes Palaces and Wrath are the only two albums I ALWAYS listen back to back. Every song ties in so well with the following one and they both sound incredible 🤟🏻

Ashes of the Wake is probably my favorite, even talking top-to-bottom. It was the first Lamb of God I heard, and this album sold me on the band and they instantly became one of my all-time favorites. I remember when Wrath came out I was in college, and my card had a 6-CD changer in it. I kept every LoG album in it in order, including Burn the Priest, and just let it play through and loop, never needed to change the music ever, haha.

Sacrament and Wrath were masterpieces of Metal History!

Ashes is so perfectly balanced between cohesive/well-polished and raw/wild. The soundscape is brutal but tight. The songs are meandering but then hit so hard at the right times. Definitely their best.

Good man choosing the right number 1 album. I got palaces the same day it released. Played it twice a day or more for years. Loved it!

As someone who ranked in the top 2% listeners the past 2 years running (according to Spotify), here’s my list: 1. Sacrament 2. Wrath 3. Ashes of the Wake 4. Resolution 5. Lamb of God (2020) 6. Omens 7. As the Palaces Burn 8. Sturm und Drang 9. New American Gospel

Needless to say I think this band is heavy underrated even now. Forever will be in my top 5 bands. Wrath is my top album but every album has a few solid tracks I could listen to on repeat and with omens I think they have stayed true to the lamb of god groove and punky fuck you attitude with that technical heaviness
@Simebag2 жыл бұрын
Great ranking, love the argumentation behind it. Mark is always great to hear 👌And I agree completely, you gotta rank them as albums, and not pick which ones have most of your favorite songs. I would switch #2 and #1 though, and I'm not yet sure about where to put the last album (the self titled).. Great video!

Straight up As the Palaces Burn is my favorite, that was my introduction to LOG and man it never gets hold, just heavy, full of emotion, raw, definitely my favorite. Ashes would have to come in 2nd. All in all, love all yalls work

Wrath was the album that got me into Lamb of God. I'll never forget my brother playing "Broken Hands" for me for the first time. It grew on me and I ended up eventually stealing his CD

That was one of my first LoG songs as well. The way Randy just comes in hot with "Bled of all you had to lose!" Before you even hear anything else. Fantastic.
