Well done, good clean finish .......... and your lathe runs very quiet also 👍

When I bought my lathe the only thing broken on it was the handle on the carriage wheel. The first thing the lathe made after getting it reconditioned and running was a new shaft to put the handle back on. It was very gratifying to have the lathe fix itself. It's been making parts ever since with only my imagination being the limiting factor. Nice bling bling! : )

Happy new year Sir! Always a pleasure to watch your creativity. I watched all of your restoration projects and it motivated me to start restoring my LeBlond lathe last summer. Got it tore apart and partly painted then got side tracked working on other projects and the lathe has sat getting no attention. My major project has been rewiring and restoring a 2000 Corvette that sat for 10 years under some trees and the mud, leaves and squirrels destroyed it. I'm almost finished with it. Watching you make things motivates me to get back on my lathe!!! Thanks!!!

Hey Guy , I've been on the sidelines watching your videos since your beginning , I must say that you put out an excellent product . Well articulated , great camera work , good content , good machining skills , etc. etc. You may not be a huge channell , but you are mighty tall in my eyes. I'd give you a three thumbs up , but I only have two hands .

My biggest issue with you is that you don’t make nearly enough content! I throughly enjoy all of your content. I’ve been in a lot of machine shops and hobby shops and I really wish I saw the level of care and detail in more peoples work and work environment that you have. As always, you do such great work! Beautiful work and beautiful machines. I’ll quit my man crush rant.

Happy New Year! I never minded the solid handle on my South Bend(pretty well polished, and chances are if I'm using the lathe both it and I are covered in oil anyway), but this is a great idea. I'll keep it in mind if ever i need to replace a handle!
@BurtonsAttic5 жыл бұрын
I hear ya. My South Bend has a really small handle but also doesn't have a lot of mass in the carriage compared to the Rockwell and moves very easy. I did mention the mass in the video but I didn't point out that not only am I moving the carriage which is much larger than the South Bend but also the added mass of the taper attachment is being moved every time the carriage moves under normal operation which is most of the time. Thanks for commenting and Happy New Year!

Ya had me right up to the point you pulled out plastic. :-/ and I still gave you a thumbs up for nice work. ;-)
@BurtonsAttic5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I used plastic to offset the weight of the brass. To much weight in the handle could cause undue influence on the wheel which could translate to the cutting tool and the part being made. Original handle= 3oz, new handle assy= 3.3oz. Not enough to make a difference...

Hey I see you put a new style QR post on there! Interesting. I've probably already put too much money into tool holders to change from AXA but that looks good.

It is great! I may upgrade the South Bend to the same one.

I've always preferred polished fixed handles because I find it easier to make precision movements. But then, I never where gloves when operation rotary equipment.

If you take of those gloves of you do not need turning handles as rubber creates a lot of friction, I have been working with fixed handles and rotating handles for the last 55 years never had any problems with stress on my hand but I never used gloves those are for girls:-)))))))))))))))))
