Tape. I'm not sure why it never occurred to me to use painter's tape over a glossy part for scanning, but... damn. Excellent work.

yup that and you can use sharpie to make dots for "hole" so it keeps track as well!

this is the same thing im trying to learn and practice, i got he revopoint inspire coming here soon, gonna be using it for my formula cars and designing sidepods and bodywork. I just need to work on using 3d splines, they're not very easy to use at times. Might even use the scanner for designing exhaust headers and expansion pipes.

Thanks for the video showing the workflow, including the modelling/design side. Boy, it looks like laying the tape down to prep your scanning surfaces took more time than the scan with the Range.

It definitely did but was recouped by 10 fold when scanning. Biggest issue I see with people getting into scanning is not properly prepping what they plan to scan.

I'll have to try the painters tape trick but so far this scanner is hot dog doo doo. I am kicking myself for not spending more on one that actually can track something while scanning..

Thanks for the video review, do you think it would be able to scan a surfboard relatively accurately? for example a surfboard 6 foot 6 inches long, would it have trouble scanning the smooth relatively flat areas?

@@ajhartmanaero the software since v5 has made some pretty big improvements :) the fact that you can scan edit and calibrate all the scanners (minus calibrating the range which I hope they do something for that) in one software now is super nice

​@@digital0785 I like the new software ... but found that with my (admittedly old) laptop, it wasn't able to use the new software with my Mini. The showstopper for my old laptop: Revopoint needs to improve the tech requirements listed, that window version requires driver support for at least OpenGL 4.0. For anyone wondering, it's a matter of finding out if you've a nVidia, AMD, or Intel GPU, and check on the model of card/GPU your machine has on their technical pages. That OpenGL v4.0 the key library Revopoint is using on the back end, to leverage the GPU on Android/iOS/Windows/MacOS and make RevoScan 5.x fast, snappy, and much more agile and adept with tracking vs the 4.x software. I did experience it fully with the Android phone version: 5.2.2 on Android (A Motorola phone) works WAAAAY faster on the post-processing steps than it did on my laptop with Revoscan 4.x like AJ has. AJ: you'll be able to install the 5.x software in tandem on your computer with your existing one, to give the transition a go. The public betas of 5.x were coming out in the spring of 2023, and development and update of the 4.x versions has stopped. It is great to see that Revopoint did make all their scanners and software in a way that they work on both the older and current software. This is rarer than you think.
