REVS by Geoff Crammond - Race 2 of 5 - Brands Hatch

Young Friedrich Bang is back again for the second round of the British F3 Championship of 1985! From his debut race in Silverstone Friedrich managed to grab one point but surely he can do better?
We'll do a season of five races, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Oulton Park and Snetterton, all included in the extended version of Revs by Geoff Crammond, all the way from the year 1985.
This is the BBC Micro version of the game. I'm using BeepEm emulator to run the game.
REVS season will not be my traditional hardcore season, it's pre-recorded and released as a KZbin premiere.

I agree completely :) At first glance it looks like crap but when you start unwrapping it there are layers after layers and in the end, a very enjoyable racing simulator!

Stunning programming for 8-bit, and especially for C64 (not exactly lauded for its 3D capabilities even compared to other 8 bit systems).

The game was advanced compare to oppenent at this Time (F1 by Accolade, 88,89,90) Your enthousiasme to play with this kind of former game IS crazy...

I just had to experience it, it's the first serious racing sim ever plus made by Crammond so I simply had no choice :) Honestly I thought it would be a painful experience but as I've said many times, once you get used to it the driving is pure pleasure!

Thank you :) It was very disappointing but at the same time the result was way better than I expected before the race. The AI is very good, you really have to nail everything to be competitive!

This is a good video! I've never seen Revs played with a real steering wheel! I used to play it (in the 90's and with the c64) a paddles and a sewing machine pedal connected in parallel to the other paddle.

Sewing machine pedal :D So cool! I've heard many stories of how people innovated wheels / pedals different ways in the late 80s / early 90s but that was a new one for sure!

Amazing effort and race!! I' m stuck watching these Revs races, not sure exactly how. These are best watched in the KZbin app of my main room TV. My wife is puzzled, but it's a good novelty, beyond from the Minecraft and SuperMario Brazilian youtubers that the kids watch. I'm too young for having played this game, back in the day, but it's a very interesting "vintage simracing" exercise. I agree with you, 10 laps seems a balanced race distance. The game was really ahead of its time. The driver names are so cool - and I was thinking that John Newhouse was the first Geoff Crammond's driver name pun (F1GP 'GP1' names were serious business...) I wonder if you're up to do a second round in each track and make a 10-race championship? Then you'll have experience in each track... 😄

Haha, hopefully you have a huge tv so you can enjoy these graphics in their full glory :D I know most people will never try this and I absolutely get it but as a Geoff Crammond fanboy I simply had to. It does take a while but once you get used to the graphics and everything the driving and competing itself is pure enjoyment and thrill, especially when you really have to push it on the limit. I think 5 races will do for now but I might do another season with the C64 version some day to see how it differs. Especially I'm interested if the controls are different, if there's less input lag and more wheel resolution. But that'll probably be in a year or so, I need a bit more eye-candy now :D

Enjoyable race, my heart was racing there for the final metres, I thought you were about to be passed by many cars off the final turn of the race! Nice podium! Hugh Jengine has gotta be my favourite of the AI names 😅

Ah this is awesome - the first time I'll witness Bang race at the circuit just down the road from me... I don't think in any previous series Bang has visited the Kent circuit (I may be wrong!) Have a good race Bang.

Yep, first time for Bang @ Brands Hatch :) Personally I have raced here in iRacing and some other sims, really enjoy the circuit!

You're right, I didn't bother to code tiebrakers into my spreadsheet, because I'm lazy :)
