Whenever I see one of these cars, it takes me back to the summer of '73. We were all fairly new drivers, and met at a friends house for a party. My friend's Mom had a new "73 Comet, in a copper color. Unfortunately, there was underage drinking involved. We were out of snacks, so my friend decided to make a snack run. We were standing in the back yard, and we heard a big crash. He had impaled the rear end of the Comet into the front of my "67 Galaxie. {which of course led me to your page}. Well, needless to say , the Comet came out the loser, and both quarter panels were buckled down from the impact-the only damage to the Galaxie, was that the bumper sported a bit of a smile. Well, the party was over, and my friend lost his driving privileges for the rest of the summer. The Comet was fixed, but never looked right-I think they pulled it out a bit, and then packed it with bondo. Thanks for letting me share my story-thanks for these great videos-God bless you!

Memories for life. My son let is 15 year old have a first drive by pulling his car into our THREE car wide driveway. Well, first drive he had no clue. He slammed the gas thinking you had to push hard and piled into my old suburban. Great shot it was between the doors. It has been three years and the poor kid still swears off cars. Comets may be "cheap" but suburbans are a dime a dozen so I had no problem selling it on for peanuts.

Well, I had a ‘72 Maverick with the 302, but a 4 dr. Got the chance to do a bit of fixin’, I had the intake manifold off and cleaned out the ports just a touch, rebuilt the 2 bbl carb, installed true full dual exhaust, with turndowns just past the rear axle, had the transmission rebuilt and added a shift kit. Found a set of Aluminum slot mags and mounted E-70-14’s up front and F-60-14’s on the rear, ( couldn’t afford some good radials, but these did the job). Did a homemade paint job using ‘75 Corvette Medium Blue Metalflake, stunning. Was in the process of finding a rear diff( I had a 2.76, looking for a 3.23) when I sold it to upgrade my ride to something newer. Miss that ride. Later on I also had a ‘73 Mercury Comet with the straight 6, 200 ci, 3 speed manual on the floor( with the longest stick shift I ever used), that engine locked up on me 4 months later.
@todddenio32002 жыл бұрын
@@mrdiplomat9018 worst I have ever seen for changing the plugs on was a project car a guy I know built years ago. He put a built up Ford 429 in a Ford Pinto. To change the plugs on that one required taking off both front tires to get to the access ports he drilled into the inner fenders to access the plugs.

Wow Rev & Ole Man - As I said, This video brought back lots of memories. When you made the comment about pulling the engine to change the spark plugs- I was thinking the same exact thing just before you made the statement. From what I remember about the 72 Maverick, I also used the stubby ratchets and also flex head ratchets with the bent handles and flex joints. I had the C4 automatic transmission in my Maverick and always used to laugh about how short the driveshaft was compared to all of the truck driveshafts that I was used to dealing with. Regarding the fuel cap; The original fuel caps were quite large and were fairly heavy. I’m thinking that they were pretty similar to the fuel caps that were on the older Mustangs. The seats and console looked pretty much the same as my 72 Maverick in which I think was tan as I remember. Seems like the running light switch was located on the right side of the dash instead of the drivers side in which was kind of a split dash instead of the solid dash like most of the other Ford cars were. My Dad always used to say that the Mavericks were nothing but a Ford Falcon. Unfortunately most of the V8 Mavericks & Mercury Comets usually were totaled out because they would absolutely scream. I have never seen any of these cars with the manual transmission before - So I am quite curious to see this car drive again if at all possible. With all of the “Blue Ovals” that we had over the years, I can say that the 302s would usually start during really cold weather and were very reliable engines. No they weren’t the most powerful engines that Ford ever made - But you always seemed to get from point A to B and never have to worry.

Not to be a bother but I would really love to hear a scripture instead of a joke on your next intro of your video of whatever God decides to put on your heart

I had a 1974 Mercury Comet. It was stolen in 1989 in Framingham, Massachusetts. It was never recovered. What kind of a sick bastard would steal a 74 Comet and keep it for 34 years. :/

I never thought that one would run.. But she sounds great . My girl cousin bought a 72' Maverick with ainline 6 that smoked like a chimney . I had a 289 setting on a pallet , so we dropped it in . Surprisingly , it went in fairly easy & with a 4 speed stick behind it, It would lay down rubber . She lived nxt door & I think just to irritate my old man, she'd back outta her drive rip past our house... She drove the wheels off of it for a few yrs & then bought a 72 Nova . It only had 32k on it & again, an inline 6... Again I had a 350 setting in the garage , so I dropped it in ... Again, she ripped past our house & my dad said if I put another V8 in her cars he'd put knots on my head...lol

There is a commercial from about 1972, Ford was marketing to women and wanted to promote "Women's lib" as they called it. They had a bunch of female stewardesses (as they called them) put together a Maverick that was party taken apart. I don't think the world was ready for your neighbor. lol how tings change.
