43yr wrencher, at 13 I conned a older guy into believeing I was 16, paid 50 bucks for a 64 dynamic 88 wagon, thought I was hot stuff, my dad found out and he was so upset with me. So this brings happy memories for me, recovering from major surgery. Thanks for the wonderful content. I grew up on this old stuff. Makes me so happy to see young guys into the older units, you're a good guy. 63 cincinnati here.

Not long after I moved to Alaska my dad and I were car shopping for me and happened upon a 1964 Oldsmobile 98 in a dark forest green color and it was a 4-door hardtop too. Man I wanted that car, but practicality and a price of $4500 turned us away. Now I have a 1962 Starfire that started out rougher than this one but its made a huge transformation. The 394 is mighty fun! Style cannot be compared to! Good job getting this Olds 98 running and driving! I wanna go for a ride!

Greetings from Glenn in Cleveland! I can't think of a better way to close out the year than with an Oldsmobile 98 revival! I grew up with these Kennedy era cars in the 60's. In the 60's and 70's you could tell what kind of cars they were from a block away. Have a Happy, Health and safe New Year!

My favorite Olds body style . She kicked right off . Everybody has to learn, and hands on is usually the best way. I didn't have a father or anyone to show me. I learned by watching other people or just figuring it out . Nothing wrong with that . Oh , i'm 71 and these old cars and trucks were my passion . Keep doing what your doing .

Well optioned 64 98. Center armrests front and rear means high end. The base 98 had bench seats without center armrests and roller windows. Nice car with the seat and window controls on the armrest like and Electra and a Cadillac. Bonneville and Impala had them hanging off the driver door panel.
@johnparsons24883 күн бұрын
I guess no front center armrest. KZbin has no edit function for comments apparently.

I love that you have revived that classic Oldsmobile. With a little love and preventative maintenance she has many more years and miles of fun driving in her. I have a just as solid 1964 Starfire convertible that I bought in 1982 from the original owner. It took a little talking with him as he first said it was not for sale. It was parked under a car port with a tarp over it as the top was in bad shape. He said it had not been driven for about five years as his vision had gotten so bad that he could not pass the eye test to renew his driver's license. But he did not want to sell it to some young kid who would chop it up and make a lowrider or hot rod out of it. So my dad a and I drove his 1957 Oldsmobile Convertible and I drove my 1957 Oldsmobile 88 coupe both bone stock to his house to show him that we loved vintage Oldsmobiles and it would be well cared for and not chopped modified or abused. He sold it to me for $750.00 the next weekend we rebuilt the master cylinder and wheel cylinders drained the 5 year old gas out of the tank and put in 10 gallons of fresh gas. and drove it home. We kept in touch with him sending him photos of the car as we fixed the little bit of rust primed and painted it installed a new top and had the seats recovered. Two years later we drove the finished Starfire and my dad's 1957 Super 88 convertible.to his house and took him and his son and great grandson on a nice cruise to the local drive in restaurant for lunch.

My dad had a new 64 super 88 the same colour as this one. I was 17 years old at the time and used to trade cars with my dad on Sunday afternoon. He liked driving my 57 MG and going out on a tour with the tonneau cover half on. I remember driving the Oldsmobile on Royal York Road in Toronto with my friends in the car and seeing my dad driving in the opposite direction in my MGA. He was looking very sporty with an English pee cap and a pipe in his mouth. That Oldsmobile had a 330 hp engine and had lots of power for the year. Your old car brought back this memory. I’ll be 78 years old tomorrow.

Brand new guy here! Finally, someone else who looks for tilt! I’m tall in the torso and can’t get into or out of a car without tilt! Also, like others have said, rare high optioned car. I don’t recall seeing one of that year with the cornering lamps. Those “wrong” color keyed hub caps will bring you a pretty penny. I had to buy a set for my 78 Fleetwood and those ran from $50 each to $400 each! So don’t throw them away.

I’m glad you had a great holiday with your family or families. When I started turning wrenches these cars were 10 to 11 years old so I had the advantage of picking the minds of some awesome mechanics that were the real deal wrench turners. Just take your time and go through the correct diagnostic procedures and it will be fine. Honestly if you go to some garage sales early you can find the old service manuals that will really help you, I used them a lot because sometimes you just have to figure it out yourself. At least you are not working on computer cars which honestly are junk. But most of all have fun and Hope You and Your Family Have A Happy Healthy And Safe 2025!!! Great Videos Thank You 🙏

I was a ten year-old kid, in '64; and this car brings back TONS of great memories of my Uncle Dan, who was a serial Olds 98 buyer (a new one every two-three years) all through the 60's and 70's, until his passing in the early 80's. Factory A/C was a VERY rarely ordered, and VERY expensive option, in '64. Even in 98s and Electras. It was mostly found in Caddies, Lincolns and Imperials only of that era, and even some of them didn't have it..until much later in the sixties. The under the dash, add-on units from Wards or Sears were fairly common in the early to mid-sixties, instead; in anything other than the top-tier luxury cars.

This one brings back some memories. When I was a kid, my father bought a 63 Dynamic 88. It was a nice enough car but my 8 year old car critic self didn't like it because it wasn't as cool as the 59 that he sold when he bought it. The 59 is still my favorite car that our family ever had. Now, 60 years later, I guess it's probably about time for me to forgive him for the worst car decision he ever made.😄

Adjust your fast idle Running too slow Make sure your choke has the lightest spring tension to close fully and make sure your choke stove pipes are not clogged or rotted away There should also be a tiny hole in choke assembly that uses vacuum against the choke piston to Pull off choke about 1/4 an inch so it runs fast without bogging and then the choke stove pipe will slowly heat and expand the spring so the choke opens fully should open fully in about five minutes just needs my new adjustments and patience

That’s an ANTI STALL DASHPOT keeps car from Stalling if the quickly punch it and let off With vacuum the plunger is retracted When you punch the throttle the vacuum decreases and the plunger extends so the throttle closes slowly and keeps the engine from stalling! Not really needed
@jeffreycler495Күн бұрын
Thats a vacauum dashpot, It does it's job by preventing engine stalling when abruptly taking your foot off of the gas pedal. this was for automatic transmission cars. In the later 1960's they switched over to a electric solenoid switch which was activated when ignition switch was turned to the on position or the a-c was turned on. This switch when it retracted prevented engine dieseling when turning off the engine. Thats a lot of useless information.
