Shawn I saw you play years ago using your Divided by 13 FTR 37. I wasn’t familiar with the brand and dove in researching the amps. Your tone was just brilliant, which led me to the ccc 9/15, which I have today. Being able to select between 6V6s and EL84s allows me the best of two worlds. The amps are so well made, dependable and sound killer. Thanks for inspiring me to track Fred and his amps down.

Great vídeo! How would you compare the Revv dynamis 7-40, that you have reviewed a while ago, to the rest of the Revv amps you currently own ? ( especially the D20, D25 and the generator 7-40 )… Thank you so much for your videos.
@ShawnTubbs Жыл бұрын
Thanks! The 7-40 has quite a bit more headroom being a 40-watt amp over the D20 and D25. The clean channel on the 7-40 is a bit more "modern" sounding as a clean channel whereas the D20 and D25 are a bit more vintage in nature.

Wow, what an amazing collection of amps! Questions: which would you take to a small club gig or jam, which one to a medium-sized venue gig, which one to an arena gig? (Or would the answer be the same since the amp could be mic'ed and you'd be using in-ear monitors?)

@ShawnTubbs Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! The Badger would sound cool indeed with the D20. Whenever I mic up, for the most part, I use the summing amp in my Chandler TG2. I really like how punchy the Royer 121 and 57 combo sounds through a great analog summing preamp. I will on occasion split the two mics out.

I had a WDW rig back in the day for a minute and I loved it but it was problematic on sessions because of the input allocation for the tracking engineer. That being said WDW sounds AWESOME!!! I also had a big stereo rack rig and it was killer but I ended up, as big rack systems were being "phased out" for smaller setups with pedals going the mono route. I'll revert to rack set up I'm sure, at some point. ;)

@@ShawnTubbs I am currently experimenting with different amps in a stereo setup with midi control. Trying to do programchanges with my Dynamis and Dynacord Reference. I have been searching for a REVV midi setup/tutorial for dummies online with no luck. I find it kind of wonky compared to the 35 year old Dynacord, where midi is a breeze.

how do the D20, G20 and the D25 compare to each other? I've been looking at the G20; but as a Blues player- I'll never use all that gain. What I have seen is it seems more versatile then the D20.
@ShawnTubbs Жыл бұрын
The D20 and D25 are very similar. The D25 has a bit more headroom than the D20 and is voiced a little brighter. Both amps are based on the "Dynamis" which is a bit more vintage in nature and both are really great pedal platform amps. The G20 is more modern sounding. The clean channel is based on the "Generator" series. The G20 clean channel does take pedals well, but the D20 and D25 are better as a platform in my humble opinion. The G20 also has a second channel that is based on the purple or 3rd channel of the Generator. It's a modern high-gain channel that sounds great but I don't think it would be a fit for you as a blues player.

Do you mean EF 86-style preamp tubes? The only amp I currently have that utilizes that tube is my FTR37 on the "clicker" channel. That channel is similar to the Matchless DC 30 which is also EF86. That being said, I think Fred Taccone is using a 5879 now. My experience with Pentode Preamps is based only on amps I've played which tend to be voiced more British in my opinion.
