I''m impressed, Arai has managed to make a helmet lock system that is both simple and complicated at the same time.

I love Arai, I have a Corsair X Ducati, an RX-Q Italy Flag and a Vector 2 Blarney. I love the fit, the quality and the view out the eyeports but the last word I would use to describe any Arai is "quiet."

While the new visor change mechanism is an improvement overall , I still prefer the older mechanism; took 10 seconds to remove and replace the visor While it’s more finicky at first, once you’re able to do it a few times it becomes second nature

Just bought the DT-X. I can live without the pinlock but I did have to spend an extra $30 for an add-on chin curtain to limit the wind noise.

Why won't Arai offer the transitions visor? I love Arai helmets, I own four of them. But, I have switched to Shoei because they offer the photochromic visor. And Shoei is also Snell rated and just as premium, IMO. If Arai goes with transitions, I'll go back to Arai. Money is no option, I'll spend whatever they charge. BUT OFFER THE VISOR, ARAI!!!!!

Hoping that Arai will give the Defiant the VAS shield system in the near future. I like what Arai has done here, but even though I paid more, the lack of a removable neck roll, chin curtain and emergency cheek pad removal system makes it a deal breaker for me. I'll stick with the Defiant for now.

I own this helmet and must say that the comfort and feel is amazing. Ventilation is good. Visor changing is very easy. Although, the wind noise is a disaster...
@VTECheart7 жыл бұрын
I could have forgiven the pinlock, because at least the visor will accept one out of the box (the previous version you had to get a different shield plus the pinlock), but a Quantum is 80 more and a Pinlock is 30. So why wouldn't you spend the extra 50 to get the Quantum??? And where is the emergency cheekpad removal? That should be standard on all Arai's. I really wanted this to be my next helmet but dammit Arai you let me down.
@VTECheart7 жыл бұрын
I should also say, on the design, Arai is functional and mature they're not made for squids. These guys complaining about looks have got their priorities messed up.
@VTECheart7 жыл бұрын
one more thing: the name is silly. Everywhere else it'll be called the Chaser or Vector. This "it's not a replacement" is a load of marketing nonsense

Lack of emergency cheek pad removal and chin curtain is a deal breaker for me. Arai is compromising safety to save a buck. A chin curtain is just a little piece of fabric that makes a huge difference on noise. I thought arai had high standards

I wonder how long Arai is going to be able to sell entry point helmets for $500+?! Given how many alternatives are on the market fully loaded with carbon, pinlocks, etc. I am curious why people still buy Arai for that kind of cash...
@nominalvelocity7 жыл бұрын
It's an entry level Arai, not an entry level helmet; an important distinction to make. Arai doesn't compromise safety or comfort for money. You get what you pay for. Helmets with similar quality and safety are basically the same cost, regardless of manufacturer. Assuming you don't go down, that $600 buck pricepoint amortizes to like 2 bucks a week over the 5 year life of a helmet--which when you think about it, pretty much makes using a *good* helmet far and away the cheapest part about riding a bike, and with the biggest payoff if the worst happens. Sure as hell, I'll pay a little over 2 bucks a week for the bestest most comfy (to me) street helmet money can buy, and if I do go down (knock on wood), that good investment is going into protecting those thinky-bits which rattle around in that brain bucket of mine. And, you're right in that for a relatively small amount more you could go Quantum X (if it fits) and get a better value if you wanted a similar helment with pinlock out of the box.
@mmazourov7 жыл бұрын
nominalvelocity it has been long since all other bands besides Arai and Shoei compromised on safety. Look at the MotoGP paddock-Rossi is riding in AGV, Lorenzo Shark (and HJC before that), there are Scorpions there and XLite, Suomi does a full carbon fibre race lid and Bell's new Race Star is one of the best and safest helmets I have ever ridden in. There's a safety rating body set up by the government in the UK called SHARP, have a look on their site for ratings-plenty of what you would consider "low end" helmets get 4 & 5*. So it is complete and utter bollocks that Arai is somehow unique in their pursuit of safety, because the industry has moved on and they are lagging in features.
@mmazourov7 жыл бұрын
November11Seven my NXR (I love that helmet SOOO MUCH), was £260 came with pinlock, chin curtain, two top channels, super light materials and smaller shell, graphics and I even managed to get a discount on a photochromatic visor (£100 with a discount), so for the same $500 I got a metric ton of Shoei value (in my opinion). I am sure Arai crowd will buy some of those - brand loyalty is a big thing, but personally I think that Arai will be left behind soon if they do not revise their commercial strategy.
@nominalvelocity7 жыл бұрын
Max Mazourov not saying that Arai is unique, but all of those snell lids you listed with similar safety, similar weight and similar linings are similar in cost. That was my point. $200 HGV doesn't buy you all day comfort, 500 might.
@mmazourov7 жыл бұрын
nominalvelocity OK mate, you love Arai - I understand... you also have lots of spare cash... also understand. We can go through the list of "value points" one by one until the cows come home and you find one where twice the price Arai is marginally better. For anyone with deep pockets and severe nostalgia - good luck, but I will go with one of the better spec'ed alternatives for my next lid and maybe get an extra track day for my money...

Agv K3sv or Arai dt-x???? Your choice please
@RevZilla4 жыл бұрын
I would choose the DT-X unless you really really want an internal sun visor. The Arai has a higher quality composite shell compared to the AGV's more affordable polycarbonate shell. -DrewZilla *bit.ly/Arai_DT-X

Arai DT-X and Arai Vector X is that same? And then, DT-X vs RPHA 11 who is better?
@RevZilla7 жыл бұрын
The DT-X has an intermediate oval fit and is for the American market with a DOT/Snell rating. The Vector X has a round oval fit and is for the Japanese/Asian market with a JIS/Snell rating. Otherwise they are almost the same. The DT-X is for 3/4 to upright riding positions. The RPHA 11 Pro is for a full-tuck riding position. Both are excellent helmets. If you want a quieter helmet, get the DT-X. If you want a helmet with a lot of ventilation (but is loud), get the RPHA 11. -DrewZilla

@RevZilla7 жыл бұрын
What is your measured head circumference around the crown of your head? If it's 57-58cm, that would be size medium. If your crown is 55-56cm, then it's worth trying size small. The helmet should be snug around the crown of your head and usually a bit tighter in the cheeks. -DrewZilla

How does this helmet compare to the Defiant?
@RevZilla7 жыл бұрын
Structurally, they're very similar. However, the Defiant has a rounder internal shape with more ventilation compared to the DT-X, which has an intermediate oval internal shape and a little less ventilation. The Defiant comes with a Pinlock shield and insert, while the DT-X comes with a Pinlock shield but not the Pinlock lens insert. Both have a similar field of view, but the DT-X's VAS-V shield has smaller side pods than the Defiant's SAI shield. -DrewZilla

what's the difference between the DTX and the rf1200?
@RevZilla5 жыл бұрын
Really the main difference is that one is an Arai and the other is a Shoei. Both have a composite shell construction, fit an intermediate oval head shape, are Snell-rated, and accommodate glasses really well. It really comes down to personal preference. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/arai-dt-x-helmets *www.revzilla.com/shoei-rf-1200-helmets
@alexeimarcoux19855 жыл бұрын
That's a really good answer. I just bought a DT-X after trying on _a lot_ of helmets. It nosed out the RF-1200 based on really small and idiosyncratic-to-me considerations. If there had been no DT-X, I would have bought the RF-1200 happily.

whats a pin lock ?
@RevZilla6 жыл бұрын
Pinlock is an anti-fog system. a Pinlock face shield has two plastic pins on the inside of the shield that are use to hold a flexible anti-fog lens insert on the inside of the face shield. The anti-fog insert is porous and shaped specifically to reduce fogging more than typical anti-fog shield coatings. -DrewZilla
