Just found you guys. Great comprehensive content. My 51 has stock turn signal with the brake lights routed through the t/s switch.

I'm rewiring my 51 Ford with the same kit your using on your 50 from Speed Way. When you gutted the original radio, I could not tell what you placed into the shell. Was it a device to receive will receive radio aps? I want to be able to enjoy Sirius FM . Al

Yeah, I'm a total space cadet and I managed to delete the raw video of the radio modifications I did. So unless a miracle happens and I have it saved somewhere that is all lost. What I did was gutted the original internal parts and replaced it with a Kenwood marine bluetooth amp. It's an amp that uses bluetooth and does not need a head unit. This allows me to keep all the original looks and not have to toss a big ugly head unit somewhere. I may just have to pull the radio and do a video on how I install it... I've gotten a couple questions on this so far

I wonder if the Ford (70s bronco) columns have that fancy circutry for the brake lights?
@DadModsMedia
@DadModsMedia 11 ай бұрын
My understanding is the shoebox Ford had it from the factory so I would think the Bronco does as well. To test it out, just check and see how many elements are in your tail lights. Just remember that some bulbs can be dual filament, meaning 2 elements.

Guess who's back lol. For the dome light, the harness has the orange batt+ wire and the grey ground wire. I'm assuming, from looking at the factory diagram, that the domelight housings ground on the metal of the body so the grey wire isn't used. Is that what you found or no? I tried to find it in the video but my baby kept distracting me
@DadModsMedia
@DadModsMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Ha yeah man, we didn't actually cover it but you are exactly right. The housing will be the ground and there's a single 12v lead. To guarantee a reliable ground I did run a separate wire and directly grounded the housing. Worked great.

@@DadModsMedia sweet thanks man. I've got the front end finished except for the alternator. Now I'm working on the back end.

I am still wiring my 51 Ford. The concerns I have is if I put a voltage reducer on my gauges, does the connection on the float at the fuel tank need a reducer? Does the amp gauge need a reducer?Also, this car is equipped with a 6 volt electric fuel pump. What amp reducer would normally be installed on the pump? You guys are very helpful and I appreciate your help. Al
@DadModsMedia
@DadModsMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Al, I can't speak to the exact components you are using but the signal from the fuel level sender is a ground. So the only voltage reduction needed takes place at the gauge on the 12v side. As for the fuel pump I think you may be stuck having to purchase a 12v pump. There may be a reducer strong enough to handle the pump voltage reduction but I'm just not positive.

I used that same amp inside the gutted radio on my '51 Belair. I used a push/pull switch for power and wired the radio light to come on with the amp. I'll definitely be putting another one in my '49. A little off topic but are you selling the fender skirts and factory uprights that came with your car or are you going to run them?
@DadModsMedia
@DadModsMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah these Kenwood amps are slick! As far as the fender skirts go, why don't you send us a message on Facebook (dad mods) or Instagram (@dadmodsofficial).

@@DadModsMedia I was just reading the wiring layout for the speedway harness and I have a quick question. I notice it has one wire for rear running lights, one for right rear turn and one for left rear turn. As far as the running light wire, do you just run it to say the driver side tail light and then jump it over to the passenger side off the same wire? As far as the rear turn signal wires, do they double as the brake light wires? Sorry for asking, if you already mentioned it in the video.
@DadModsMedia
@DadModsMedia 2 жыл бұрын
@@ninja63639 excellent question. Yes we do cover this a little in the video but it's still very important to cover as this was something that that took some time to figure out. The Speedway harness doesn't explain the turn signal/brake/running light situation very well, but here's how it works; the Speedway harness is made for a GM column (or an aftermarket with a GM plug). Why this is important, is the GM columns and Speedway columns handle all light circuit isolation internally. So if you have one of these columns then it is really easy to do. Then at the back you can just connect the lights accordingly. And yes, you are correct about connecting the lights from one brake light to the other (driver to passenger). Same with the running light.

Hey man new question...which wire did you run through the ammeter loops?
@DadModsMedia
@DadModsMedia 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly we didn't bother with the ammeter. The Sniper EFI has a voltage reading right on the display so we left this one alone. If you come across any good info on the ammeter please share that. It's the one area we wish we could have covered but just didn't have enough info to be confident in educating.

@@DadModsMedia According to the factory wiring diagram I think it's just the one that goes from the ignition switch to the battery. I'm just not sure which one that is yet. I'm still getting the suspension taken care of, then it's on to the fuel system and then wiring

If you have converted to an alternator DO NOT hook up the amp gauge that should be replaced with a volt meter. For complete tips read this. darksidersrealm.forumotion.com/t398-converting-from-6-volt-positive-ground-to-12-volt-negative-ground
