Reworked Crab King Fight (Beta)

This is the reworked Crab King fight available now at the beta branch.
It seems like you either want to use purple or ruins gems and sleep the minions to deal damage and prevent healing (thanks ‪@Arcwell_‬ for the pan flute strat).
Yellows will increase the amount of towers throwing projectiles.
Purples will increase the number of minions.
Oranges will increase the healing.
Greens will increase the claws.
Blues will make the ice crack faster and the ice wall more tanky.
Reds will increase the cannon damage, destroying your boat, which you rarely can replace because of the ice the ice floor leaves when it cracks.
You're standing on ice, so it's also slippery.
Damage is almost unavoidable during the fight.
Claws glitch IN the boat.
And, of course, there are several instances in which you can drown when jumping on/off your boat.

I hope this rework makes me want to fight this boss again. It may be an L for speedrunner and sort, but I believe a large portion of the playerbase including myself didn't like having to babysit your boat 24/7 in this fight and/or being reliant on cheeses. Seems like a massive W to me tbh.

For me the biggest issue that Crab King still have is that he has no new rewards for using other more difficult gem combinations. In practical terms there is no reason to use other gems except purple ones, unless you want to entertain yourself with challenge

So happy to see this fight get a rework. I have a Wilson world on day 400 something and I stopped playing because I just couldn't bring myself to fight Crab King, it just sounded so miserable

The fight still looks a little frustrating imo, having to go back and repair the boat over and over while having to deal with taking damage from dozens of different things at once. It’s cooler and more unique than the old Crab King, but it doesn’t feel quite right yet

You can destroy the cannon towers, which should alliviate a lot of the damage i think

Equally, he no longer heals to full health if you don't attack for five seconds and you don't need weather pains or animation cancelling to prevent him from healing, so having to leave the fight to fix the boat really doesn't set you back all that far.

Oh interesting. I thought the fight seems a little bit too easy as he is pretty much ignoring a lot of boss mechanics (the towers, the claws and the mini crabs )and just holds F to attack crabking. At the current state it seems that you have no incentive to deal with them, as it would just waste your time. So just facetank and attacking is the best strategy 😐 Instead of repairing the boats with 4 boards he could as well build a new boat with 4 boards. And since a broken boat drops boards he would lose less boards in total. With the old crap king fight i have polly roger and lazy forager equipped, since you dont need armor at all, to clear the battlefield from debris.

it's a lot more fun than bee queen. I think it's among my favorite five bosses now. Gem combos are pretty wicked too, since except red, they are all viable to use unlike before the beta

ONCE THIS BETA COMES OUT, ILL FINALLY FIGHT CELESTIAL CHAMPEON ill update you when the day comes. . Update one: i found the crabby boy, i don't seem to have the gems needed so i guess i'll have to figure out something, since the rework makes this guy a bit diferent i need to get ready, this is what i will do: 1. Get enough logs to make 2 wooden boats, so i can fight him withought worring my sailing boat is in danger 2. I need the gems to actually summon the guy, i already have pearl's pearl, so there's something 3. I'll do some lunar island work, as my full moon day is close i will make some swords etc. 4. Heal, armor and weapons I still have much to do!!, stay tunned Edit 2: im ready, i'd say, 4 dark swords, 4 bramble husks, i'll get healing before summer ends and kill'em in autum for less trouble with heat

That’s in official beta? If they fix the bugs with the claws and drowning when you get on and off the boat I think it’ll be pretty cool. Honestly I just like Klei addressing the less fun aspects of their game.

The only actual critique I have of this really solid-looking rework is that I think the mini-crabs need immunity to the pan flute and sleep in general! I mean, they’re lunar aligned, right? If you’re gonna have a hoard boss and they don’t have a way to wake up their minions like the Bee Queen does, I think it’s just kind of necessary to have that immunity or at least resistance to sleeping. Especially if everything the Crab King is infamously annoying for is being heavily merfed or straight up removed! Key points here are that the Crab King can’t heal back up to full health anymore, the crab minions don’t seem to all automatically aggro so it’s unlikely you’d have to deal with ALL of them, and the cannons aren’t 100% accurate. Basically, slowing the fight down a little by preventing the crab minions from snoozing is fine, because not just going straight for CK’s health doesn’t have major consequences now

I do not agree about the immunity of the sleep for crabs. Crab = sea boss and the battlefield with him is limited. Queen bee = ground boss, where there is a lot of space + there is a path / road

@@_Lovin_ consider: with Bee Queen, she CONSTANTLY respawns any minions you kill, whereas Crab King only spawns them when the ice phase starts. Meaning that killing then DOES give you a large window where you don’t have to deal with them.

@@fruitbowl7275 BQ is a shit designed boss. It's a chore of a fight on most characters solo and 99% of late game solutions to the boss is to just cheese it. If that isn't indicative of a large issue idk what is. The boss' gimmicks are just kind of uninteresting and not very fun to play against imo. Look up BQ from DST's mod uncompromising mode and tell me you aren't disappointed with the vanilla version after seeing it.

I think you just got to be grateful that they finally did it. I mean, 4 years wasn't that long to wait. A lot of games don't get updates nearly as often as DST.

call me a hater but doesn't this seem like a little late, the players that encountered this boss likely already knew how to beat him, why re work it now, not like new players are making it to this point in the game, let alone making a raft to begin with

At no point did the players' skill level freeze in time, many players are still progressing, including myself. I was dreading having to learn and beat crab king and I am very happy they are reworking him into what I just saw! I now look forward to him and Celestial champion instead of viewing CK as a roadblock/chore, I'm glad my first kill on him will probably be a fun fight like bee queen, dfly, and the rest

Crab King was required to get to one of the end game bosses, and was roadblocking a lot of content. Also he wasn't a very fun fight in general. Now at least I think he looks fun, which should be the bare minimum.

I don't care, this needed to change, I was highly descouraged to do the celestial champion on my own because I could never kill this mf with normal means And when playing with friends, this boss was so annoying that we just killed him with commands, but I never liked that
